My grandmother, a petite Southern lady who grew up poor on a farm, looked a lot like Queen Elizabeth. Everyone used to tell her that. So, I always think of my grandmother when I see the queen. My grandmother died last year at 94 and now the queen is gone, too. I will still think of my grandmother whenever I see Queen Elizabeth, and so videos of her give me a warm feeling in my heart. She seemed like such a gentle lady, and it is hard to believe that she's no longer in this world, since very few can remember life before her coronation. Condolences from the US.

Accents don't typically change over time but pronunciations can. As one example, at the beginning of her reign the queen pronounced the word "home" as "hame." Over the decades this and the pronunciation of many other words have slowly been adjusted to reflect the modern pronunciation used by most of her subjects. This has been a deliberate yet highly subtle adjustment Her Maj has made over the decades to appear more approachable to those outside her royal and noble bubble.

It's funny to see the way the Queen handles the Imperial State Crown so delicately here. Yet in another documentary about the Crown Jewels made by the BBC for her Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, she has it on the table in front of her and then, when the interviewer says "can I ask if the crown can be brought a little closer to the Queen," she abruptly grabs it (as if getting a teapot from a cupboard), says, brightly: "This is what I do when I wear it," and starts turning it around in a startlingly casual manner. I mean, ok, it is HER crown, but it was so funny and rather refreshing to see her being so informal with it.

Beautiful to discover this video just now. A welcome relief after days of crying due to a profound a sense of loss and grief that I could not have imagined. I always knew it would be difficult and really hoped I would go before The Queen because I somehow could not imagine a world without her presence. I am reminded of another documentary which you should all see. She speaks of the Crown and to paraphrase says, "There are disadvantages to a Crown, but they are quite important things" and as she says this it is with an every growing radiant and knowing smile. Also if you are very perceptive you know that she is not speaking of artistry or extrinsic value but of a much deeper meaning to do with history, tradition and ritual. I live on the continent and due to circumstances quite out of my control I was unable to travel to England to be physically part of all that is happening. So I must make do with the BBC live stream which I stop watching and feel compelled to return to watching news and interviews toggling back and forth also ti the live feed from Westminster. It is like a meditation watching thousands of people silently walk stop and say farewell to the Queen. The changing of the Guard is sombre, somehow mystical and with a timing, gravitas and grace that is quite mesmerising. I have probably watched this changing of the Guard 30 or 40 times and cannot look away. As a boy I watched the coronation on tele transmitted across the Atlantic. Queen Elizabeth and I grew older and old together. She is embedded in my consciousness and my sense of loss is quite extraordinary. My mother who died 2007 was born the same year as the Queen and I 20 years later. King George VI still reigned. When my mother died it felt that somehow the earth had shifted or that I had shifted in the universe??? I feel that again in a different way but my sense of loss seems somehow greater now. Maybe because I am that much older or perhaps because the Queen and I had a distant relationship which was one sided. She never knew I existed but I certainly knew of her existence. Grief is such an odd thing and probably different for everyone. Thank you for sharing this video ...... This is how I best remember Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. 💔💔

@@vivo-audio A lot changed with George VI, especially in the monarchy. Queen Elizabeth the Wise didn't spawn from thin air, she was inspired to serve with utmost dedication by her father overcoming his stutter. King Charles III and Prince William have lived with the benefit of her council their entire lives. The period of British Monarchy we experience is not the same as George the Mad King. It isnt the same as King Henry VIII. It isnt even the same as Queen Victoria. This era began with King George VI, and it is a radical departure from the past. I know only reigning monarchs are numbered now but noticed she was technically the third Queen Elizabeth. Her late Majesty's mother's name was also Elizabeth. She might not have had to sign things with an "R" like Her Majesty did but she put in just as much work supporting her father and later her when she became Queen(Regnant). She had two Queens to learn from: Her mother and albeit briefly, her grandmother, Queen Mary.
