HMAS Melbourne final return

HMAS Melbourne sailed into her home port for the final time. The 138-metre long Guided Missile Frigate arrived at Fleet Base East bringing her 27 years of service at sea to an end.
HMAS Melbourne was commissioned in 1992 and has sailed more than 780,000 nautical miles throughout her service life. She deployed to the Middle East eight times and earned battle honours for her service in East Timor, the Persian Gulf and the Middle East. She recently completed a four month deployment through Asia, including conducting international maritime surveillance operations to enforce sanctions against North Korea.
HMAS Melbourne will decommission in October.

I am lucky to have a forever piece of Hmas Melb in my desk. When being built at Williams town, my elderly father got us in for a staff family day, at was then AMECON. Showing of the latest tech, the ship yard provided lazzer/ plasma cut kangaroo's from the ship plates to guests. I still have it as a reminder of my father (WW2,water craft), and the ship with my home town name. I was lucky to have been aboard 3 times during her service, at public port visits. I also have a scale model of her now.

Just a quick question. The Hunter class replacement frigate is not even being built yet... and we are getting rid of lots of our warships!!! What is wrong with the fleet command??? Given my taxes pay for our military, and I’m a former serving member. I would like an answer please.

This is an old ship. We have no need for it. The Hobarts will replace these ships and do a far better job. If anything retiring such an old ship provides our navy with an increase in capability rather than a decrease

Por eso digo que es mejor construir las fragatas comprar bajo patente tecnologías el desarrollo en Chile sería enorme en esa área y saldría mucho más barato

She look's damn fine for her age good work to the Executive Dept for keeping her pretty.Sadly two of the Warships I served in are now on the bottom of the ocean (Tobruk and Adelaide). Hopefully they provide rec divers with lots of good memories.
