I'd argue that Lucario should be the fighting type Pikachu. Literally gets nearly the same publicity and has their own movie for god's forsaken Earth! Does Machop have their own movie? Thought so... Overall, great picks otherwise.

I'd argue that lucario's dual typing makes it a bit more inconvenient for this. Lucario is more popular a pokemon than machop, for sure, but it's not THE fighting type pokemon

Daily reminder that Steve Irwin got struck in the heart by the stinger accidentally. If he was stung anywhere else besides the heart or brain he would have likely been fine. Your Ground rules 1. No starter Pokemon 2. Preferabbly be mono type I always find it so funny that Goomy is conisdered the weakest Dragon type, even in the Pokedex, when Goomy has 300 BST where Noibat only has 245 + Goomy actually learns Dragon Moves by level up while Noibat doesn't. Goomy is deffo the cutest Dragon type, but not the weakest. I wouldn't actually mind Cramorant being the Flying type mascot. The issue is that a 'mascot' should look cute in order to become a mascot. That instantly means Absol cannot be the Dark rep (It should be Purrloin) and Gengar is out for Ghost (Hello... LITWICK IS RIGHT THERE). The thing is that your requirements are kinda arbitrary, since with some types, you class them by cuteness, while for others, you class them by coolness. Snorlax then is a mon that falls in both categories... its a cute mon... but also gets all the love from Gamefreak... it got a Pre-evo in gen 4, an Exclusive Z-Move in gen 7, a Gigamax in gen 8 and became the mascot of Pokemon Sleep. I personally think (Not counting the starters), we should look at which Pokemon per type gets love from Gamefreak in terms of forms, being catchable in games since introduction. I feel like that is the better way to do it, since i feel like if we do cuteness and coolness, we need to do a mascot for both categories.

Yes I think your points are valid, I think dark probably go to zorua; it was basically designed like pikachu, and gengar is definitely doted on by gamefreak, it’s lacking any cutesy charm. So litwick is nice but I think it’s missing the little bit of coolness pikachu can pull off, I think shuppet or greavard may be the better pick there

@@corrymuth2997 Shuppet is also a viable option for Ghost... especially since Banette also got a shiny mechanic in Mega Evolution... i feel like Greavard falls into the recent category for it be considered (At least for now), since i feel the same way for Cetoddle for ice (Its 100% mascot material).

I kinda thought Riolu would make a better mascot for the fighting type. It's small, cute, cool, fierce and unique in that it uses Aura. Fire type feels like you're focusing way too much on Kanto/Gen 1. Charcadet, with its ability to pick what it evolves into, would be the ideal Fire mascot imo. Gengar feels off, its a Ghost/Poison type. And there are plenty of pre Ghost types that fit the role better. Misdreavus, Corsola, Shuppet/Banette, even Sinistea all work well. For Grass, we've got Bellossom, Sunkern (If it can't have good stats, at least it can be a mascot), and Lilligant. Poison has several pure types that work better than the gunky lad, like the Nidoran twins. One for Him, one for Her. Poipole also works, as a pretty cute yet cool Pokemon. While Mew is an alright pick, its both a Mythical and yet another Gen 1 Pokemon, which this list has a ton of already. So why not go with Espurr? It evovles into a different form depending on gender, so has a similar appeal as the Nidoran line. Rockruff was right there, man. Rockruff is perfect as the rock mascot. It has THREE forms! Count them! THREE!

Scythe might be another candidate for bug type. An early game bug that gets a lot of special treatment later on. Sure its dual type. But its arguably more iconic. Another one could be heracross as well. Another iconic bug.

@@zabianreubens4989 Yes, but that'd be celadon, not quite early game. The earliest you can get it looking at most games (not considering open world stuff with PLA or S/V, or grand underground) is the bug catching contest, where it's one of the two rarest and big winner bugs. Yes, that's fairly early on (I don't remember if you need to beat Whitney to get access to the national park, it's been too long), and it's the only way to get them, but I find it tough to justify calling Scyther and Pinser as early game Mons based off of this one gimmicky example.
