Well, the HMD Skyline isn't very water resistant (IP5... splash resistance) to start. I think that's partly down to the repairability, yes. But this method of removing the back doesn't break any glue seals, so that should help some.

I need to replace my NOKIA 7.2. I was hoping for the HMD SKYLINE, but it was a disappointment, with the SoC, the cameras and above all, the poor support. 2 years of operating system updates and 3 years of security updates are not in line with the high repairability rate, nor with the 7 years of availability of repair parts. HMD HYPER follows the same line. HMD FUSION, same. To get a device capable of good performance and long support, all that's left is GOOGLE PIXEL. In this case, the PIXEL 8 PRO. Let´s wait for HMD SKYLINE G2, if it´s good enough. Great review, by the way. I'm from Portugal.

I personally think HMD Skyline is decent. The CPU is great actually, higher-mid class (better than 600 series), AMOLED display and 108Mbpx camera with OPTICAL zoom. I'll personally buy it and see for myself. The repairability and environment friendly sold it for me already :).

@@erikhonkys118 I just bought the PIXEL 8 PRO. The long period of repairability of the HMD SKYLINE (7 years) does not match the short period of updates (2 years OS and 3 years security updates). However, I always keep an eye on HMD. One hope would be the SKYLINE G2, but there is no information yet, and my NOKIA 7.2 is physically in excellent condition, but with deplorable performance.

If you compare the performance of the HMD SKYLINE with the PIXEL 8a, the latter wins 5-0. However, if the performance was better, particularly in terms of cameras, processor and updates were longer, for example 4 years OS and 5 years security update, I would opt for the HMD.

Mid rangers phones don't offer that long of a software update. Look at the Xiaomis, Realme's and Vivos. Pixels and Galaxy are big enough to support it at the expense of performance. Minus Pixels ofc. Don't think HMD would be able to offer longer support.

@@joelconolly5574 The PIXEL 8A (a mid ranger phone) costs just €400. It has 7 years of updates. 2 years of software updates and 3 years of security updates is not in line with the equipment philosophy, with ease of repair and availability of spare parts for 7 years on iFixit. I just exchanged my NOKIA 7.2, 4.5 years old, for the PIXEL 8 PRO 256gb. Despite being released in October 2023, it still has 6 years of updates.

Unfortunately my plan doesn’t allow hotspot so I can’t test.

I have the skyline and yes the hotspot is good no heating and no battery drain, is use the skyline as hotspot for gaming on legion y700 👌

I won't keep up in gaming? My brother in Christ I have been mainlining a SD845 device for years and I can play PC games on it. There is no universe where a processor with better architecture and instruction sets won't be able to get even better performance than the one I am currently using. And I'm using the Razer phone 2, with a custom ROM (LineageOS 21). I'm personally more concerned Bout the lack of a vapor chamber, something I would have to add into this if I were to use it. Everything else is pretty much spot on for every use case I personally would put it up against.
