Also, one other thing - can't wait to get back down to that area for fishing again soon, do you think June or July is just too hot or not ideal for a fishing trip to Cuba ? I mainly surf fish from the shore or inshore from a kayak or small raft etc.

Not at all, it is very hot, but I like that. I have fished down there in July and August, awesome fishing too. I love the heat, and like anywhere, Summer can be very productive for a lot of species.

Hi Shaun - Just got back from a fishing trip in Playa Del Carmen - It was great but noticed fish biting through my line or perhaps them darting into the rocks and the line getting severed that way. I was using Kastking 50 LB braid mainline with a 50 LB mono leader - I guess a little light since I hooked into barracuda at some point. I see in one of your videos you recommend the HI SEAS Flouro leader at around 80lb, is that the best option? Should I try steel leader ? Or will that prevent me from getting bites from other species ? Not sure what is really optimal price is not that important to me within reason.

I prefer the 80lb to 100lb fluoro, some of the species we target dont seem to like the steel. Just be sure to check it on every fish, and tie on a new leader if you have any knicks. The problem with steel too is that it gets coily and twisted after a few fish.

Sorry Shaun think im gonna use wire ,i dont fancy leaving lures that aint gonna rust out in a long time as most lure hooks are galvanised,have you tried days with wire against no wire to see if ther is a great difference

I would highly also recommend bringing a small net with your tackle to release the fish, the gaff does a lot of damage to the fish. Great recomendation to TIP THE CREW $$$ any were any time you do a charter, hire any guide or a guest on a boat were that the owner has a full time crew TIP them they appreciate it and work hard for you to have a great time and trip. That was another great fishing day in Cuba 🇨🇺.
