I remember jumping onboard with you and OGR with your FILBE reviews about a decade ago. This is one of the few channels that really gives the viewer REAL reviews presented in an objective manner. I'm smiling looking at how far it's come man. You never jumped on any fads, but just stuck to your tried & true honest presentation. Thanks for keepin' it real Luke.

I noticed that ALL helikon tex products are double the price/overpriced on Amazon. Definitely make sure to buy directly from their store. Their bags and pouches are also constantly sold out. Not worth paying more on Amazon in my opinion.

i have had this tarp for about 2 years. I only use the mesh pouch, the ohter was not strong enough, so the seams broke... when it comes to the tarp, i love it. Good price, and i have used it all year long. I have even had a Dakota fire underneath...

Price, perfect. Fabrikation quality OK. Overall a „super“ tarp. I‘ve got three of them and they are durable. With one of them I don‘t take care at all… my personal testing. This specific tarp went thru massiv storms. In one occasion every hering rippt out of the ground and the tarp went flapping like crazy, several meters in the air. It just held on two corners fixed along the „ridge line.“ The only sort of damage it took, was at the fixed reinforced corners, along the stitching to the main fabric… very small holes created my the massiv stress/tension. Just to give you an idea about the strengh of the Storm: branches broke and came crashing down the trees. Location of experience: Swiss alps in Mai. Based on this and other experiences I rate this tarp even a three season product. Would I recommend it, Yes!

I know this was a while ago, but I do have this tarp. Bought it a few years ago now on sale. Its definitely not for winter, but I've used it in heavy rain/wind and its held up nicely. Typically I'll use it for a quick rain cover to sit under, or a supplemental awning for my smaller tents. I've had no issues, but then I take care with my gear and know its limitations.

Btw: Bushman is a Polish company but I think the tarp itself is made in Latvia. Which I am absolutely fine with. Also, I am not sure but it crossed my eyes somewhere. I am considering it the future. It is perfect size for car camping and has the heat reflective layer, which will help me out in the summer and winter.

The one thing I think that is a problem across all of Helikon products is that the company is a Polish Company and they seem to have "translation" issue from Polish to English so most of their gear does have description issues of some sort.

It's a solid budget tarp that packs down small enough to go in any bag. I've had mine in OD for about 2 years now with no rips or tears in the tarp itself. Early on, the small inner sack started to rip, but I hand stitched the top of the seam and it's been good every since. A nice feature of the mesh sack is there's two pockets on the insides, and enough room, I can keep a staged ridge line, 4 stakes and two guy lines in them. The small anchor tabs have never been a problem for me, but I use the loop and toggle method of attaching lines and never tie anything to them. Something I didn't expect, I set it up as a sunshade in the mountains on a hot, cloudless day, and I could still feel the sun beating through thin fabric onto my skin. All in all, good if you're on a budget, can sew if you get a lemon, and plan to use it just as a shelter. If you have the $ I'd go with something else though, just because some of the HT products manufactured in Asia have some QC issues, and there are definitely better lightweight fabrics now, since this hit the market ages ago.

I have this tarp ever since it came out and purchased another this year. I believe it works whatever the season is. We made some hammocking in winter time and it worked well during heavy rain, blizzard and powerfull wind didn't took it apart either. Water runs down of it smoothly. I totally agree that you have to be a bit carefull when roping it but you can pull it tight very well. I used it to block the sun over the kids pool and the sun ate it's colour a bit but didn't effect the fabrics strenght.

LOVE the woodland camo, but not really crazy about the repeating pattern. Would be better if every other line was reversed, but with the shapes repeating so close together- it almost defeats the purpose of the camo??
@couchcamperTM

the only worthwhile non-repeating pattern is DD Multicam by DD Hammocks, UK. And to be honest, it's even better than the real MC (imho) they have a 10x10 polyester tarp that I used in strong storms and under snow, definitely not a summer tarp. I have no real reason to look elsewhere, but I am a little collector and tried out the Helikon. Basically the same stats, but I sold it after a week.

I generally love helikon products. That said, this tarp was a huge no go for me. As a contractor, I spend lots of time in a woodland environment. My gear gets used in more ways than the average person. With this in mind, this tarp wasn’t overly abused(mainly an awning to my Gazelle t4); however, the corner loops tore out on 3 of the 4. Due to heavy rain and wind. Leaving me to stitch them back in one at a time. Now its only in my truck as an emergency last resort. My aqua quest has been in use for over 6 years and is now back in place as my go to.

From what I recall my 10x10 Helikon Tex and DD Tarp were close to the same price. The Helikon is lighter, and what I use with my back pack, the DD is more for vehicle camping. I bought this tarp and the smaller 2.5Mx2M basha sized version as inexpensive lightweight options about two months ago. I thought the PL Woodland Camo was way cool. The hybrid mesh pouch can strap to your pack when the tarp is wet so it can air dry, an innovative idea. I've owned a couple of Aquaquest Defender tarps for years now. The Defender blows them away in terms of quality and durability, but is much heavier. If you get the Helikon at the right price it is a fair value for the money. Check E-Bay. Look forward to your review Luke.

Im from Australia and apparently I paid exactly 14.75 us more for this than I should have. I have had the Tarp for around 3 years, I have used it in winter with storms and in summer. I have had a fire near it a couple of times and never really had an issue. only in the last 3 months I have developed a hole in it literally 2-3 ml in diameter. Tags have held up in strong winds. Material is a little thin but it has kept me both dry and snug the past 36 months. My only criticism is obviously because of the thinner material it does sag in the combination of wet weather and high winds

As always, with Helicon-Tex, where is it made? Polyester products have some advantages, they're inexpensive. They have some big disadvantages too. They're lacking in strength with respect to nylon and they have terrible fire resistance/melt/drip usually requiring a FR coating. You really don't want to be exposed to some of those FR chemicals. I generally prefer nylon and NYCO to Polyester or PolyCO products. Still some of the PolyCO products are very well done.
