A slow but hugely impressive ship. Imagine being on the receiving end of those 16" guns.. When you think this was 1926 and how the navy's hands were tied with the restrictions of the Naval treaty in place.

It could manage 25 knots as Rodney proved. It was quite fast enough for when it was built.

At 23 knots maximum she was already redundant when launched. Far too slow. Underpowered.

Well they did not have a choice. They were constrained by the Washington Naval Treaty, which limited the ships to 35,000 tons. With the technological limitations of the time, 23 knots were really the best that they could do, with those guns and armor. And at the time, 20 knots seemed to be the norm. Most US battleships at the time could only manage to go 20-21 knots, and while the Japanese had ships capable of much faster speeds, they were outnumbered by the British.
