November, 2024. The UK government has had meetings about "mothballing" these Royal Navy carriers. They have been a nightmare. But they were poorly designed from the beginning. Many millions of dollars spent on repair. Missed planned deployment s. And inability to perform. Missions a carrier should be able to do. As reported by many UK newspapers this last week. Look it up.
@mrp4105 жыл бұрын
Great to see the UK back to where they were in 2010 with modern and powerful sea power, modern fighter aircraft, that can seamlessly dovetail with identical USN air assets for a combined punch that should make every adversary nervous. They just launched their 2nd carrier HMS Prince of Wales - which again, show serious commitment from the UK Govt. and RN to be a force to be reckoned with.

kalitor mensa But not the "bubbly" (the daily tot of rum). In the 1960's I was a Royal Marine, and served 2 years on a Royal Navy fixed wing carrier. The tot of rum was issued at about 1200 hours. If you were a Petty Officer or above the rum was issued neat, so you could bottle it and save it. For those of a lower rank it was mixed with 2 parts water so you had to drink your rum on the day it was issued. If you tried bottling your tot it would go 'off' eventually, and not taste so good. In Royal Navy tradition the rum was Admiral Nelson's blood. The rum issue was scrapped sometime in the 1970's.

@1chish4 жыл бұрын
There will be no 'Sea Typhoon' as carrier capability has to be designed in from the start or its a major re=design and new build. Not worth it. It was exactly the right decision to stay with the 'B' variant as we were able to build two supercarriers on time and on budget for $10 Mn. The USS Gerald R Ford has cost $18 Bn (and counting) and cannot launch aircraft off its EMALS Cats 7 years after flood out. Plus other kit doesn't work. The QE has done hundreds of launches and retrievals in every weather condition since September 2018 and been across the Atlantic twice. And next week it will have 15 F-35s on board for exercises with the USMC. The QEs have been passively engineered for CATOBAR but they won't be converted until first major refit in 20+ years when we will have Tempest which WILL be engineered for carrier use.

This ramp is unique... it has a frame void down the middle that is currently empty but will have a magnetic catapult put in it in the near future for heavier aircraft. At the moment the technology requires a lot of power and will require nuclear reactors, so whilst in peacetime, the carrier will only use diesel engines and not use the magnetic catapults.

A complete waste of money. While that stupid ship is patrolling the world our enemies are just turning up at Heathrow airport and walking in. Or breeding like flies. In thirty years Britain will be controlled by Islam which will be the largest single group. And they are already extremely aggressive in style and manner. They know they have won.

What do you mean? "The largest and most powerful ship the UK had ever had".. It might not be the largest in the World, but it's the most powerful in the World. If the F35 is the most powerful fighter in the World, and the UK Carriers carry more of them than any other ship, then it makes it the most powerful ship in the World.

@@TT-hd3zi I've seen more helicopters than F-35 s on these wastes of money. I am in Canada . I have an uncle who flew Vixens off HMS Eagle. Didn't take long for the Ark Royal to bite the dust. These tubs are not going to last more than 10 - 15 years before the are either sold off or let to rot in some shipyard. I'll take any bet on this.
