Hales yes. My father collected trains and had a whole town set up. He had some old trains as he was born in 1928 and started collecting when he was young. They are still at my mothers house. There are some beautiful Lionel trains. In perfect condition. There are so many trains and accessories.

I played with my younger brother many years ago lol. Jeremy when you said the train was a work of art you were spot on. Mum took us on trains and they were steam, they were wonderful and had a sound and smell all their own. As you can tell I an older than your Mum George, I really enjoyed watching this blast from the past. Take care my friends Mary-Ellen UK

Hales yes! Had a whole table set up in the basement with HO and bigger trains. Later on incorporated slot cars in it too! My brother and I spent hours. Yes, the bigger engine puffed steam and tooted it’s horn. Had mountains, trees, and buildings. Oh to be young again. I was born in 1956.

As someone who deals with model trains, most of the HO scale and Lionel trains are in fair condition. People will still buy these items for parts, but they will not command top dollar due to their condition. If the models were stored better, the items could see better prices. As far as the books and photographs, they will make better money on Ebay. Railroad enthusiasts are always looking for these items to purchase. The final item of the magazines may not sell as well as the books and photographs. Many times at train shows, these types of magazines are given away due to low interest, but I did see a few 1930s Model Railroader magazines in the video. These may sell due to the fact the Model Railroader magazine was started in the 1930s.

We have it displayed on our mantel, with all the original boxes. Yes it still works too. His is American Flyer! Great find there Hales! I shared to to Willie Brown's FB wall.. I'd buy that Hong Kong electric train set with the Sante Fe caboose as it's exactly like I used to see in real life as a kid in elementary school in the 1980's when I lived on the Sante Fe railroad in La Plata, Missouri. I used to walk the tracks from town to go fishing at the Sante Fe lake and would always wave at the caboose guys wearing blue. Such was the culture of the 20th century and earlier. The 21st century is unlike any time in the history as we lost our culture, custums, and humanity like how we used to all wave and say, 'Hi,' to one another in friendly spirit. The detail in all those plastic toys is amazing as you don't see anything like that today indicating a deep level of sincerety, passion, and patriotism.

16:12 Notice how the plastic spiral binders on these books are stacked opposite each other. That way the books stay absolutely flat and retain the value of the books. I am so impressed that he knew that. I am now thinking this guy may have shopped and bought collections but also found items in sales on his own. The preservation speaks to a real collector. You have hit a jackpot again Hales. Oh, my train when I was a tiny ankle bitter came with a jar of tablets you dropped in one at a time to make smoke. Too cool. Since the train sets seem to have multiple sizes of track that could be very important too. The one you are looking at in 19:11 appears to be a narrow track due to the length to size width and size of train and cars. Might be wrong of course but whatever. Oh this is fun.

If you have not already, I would think about taking the best of the all the railroad stuff, including the books/soft covers that are in very good condition and that are very likely all out of print, along with the train photos to a SPECIALTY AUCTION HOUSE.There is much of this that a high-end collector would pay 💰 a LOT for or that a RAILROAD MUSEUM might be very interested in. ANTIQUES ROAD SHOW would definitely be interested, but are finished with their touring for this year. It would make a very good feature segment. You never know. Whatever you do, DO NOT USE A LOCAL AUCTION HOUSE. Go for the specialty pros for sure.

At 27:35, the #8304 Locomotive 4-4-2, if that is the Original set of Locomotive, cars, track and Transformer is worth between $150.00- $200.00. If you had the original Box, worth double that. Check the #'s online to see if it's a complete Lionel Factory set on the Lionel Home Page. You might find the Box on E-bay or something, not sure of price for that but if cheap enough, might be worth it to increase the resale value. Scored again!

The photographs in the books that are secured by black triangles in the corners are from the 1940’s & 1950’s. The glue that was used then is almost impossible to remove today. Google train clubs for your area. Also, how about showcasing this on your local t.v. You will have rail-fans willing to help you. Even today there are railroad enthusiasts who make it a point to be at a crossing and they document this. You have found someone’s lifelong hobby and I know you will honor these finds.

I ran an antiquarian book shop and art gallery for years, Theres a good amount of money in the train books, I'd price the more modern ones around 15 to 20 dollars. The pamphlets about 10 to 30 dollars. My advice for the photographs would be to put in a specialist auction. That's a quick valuation on what I could see

Much of it is well before my time ;so this ex WWII Navy man may have been the father of those two kids whose photos were shown earlier in the video. Lots of pre and post WWII train mags and mostly steam era . The Lionel stuff is however from mid 1950s to late 1970s. The HO scale stuff and buildings too are from the late 1960s to late 1970s. About those black and white photos, they sell from $2 to $10 EACH on EBAY !!! Good haul Hale$ !

This is a typical collection of a model railroader for the time period. The magazines were subscriptions. To get a better education look up your local model railroad club. The Bulletin is a membership magazine from the National Model Railroad Association. Model Railroad magazine started in 1934. There are Lional Valuation Books although looking at past sales on eBay may also help.

24:00 The letter is from NATTCen (Naval Air Technical Training Center) Probably NAS Jax (Jacksonville) I don;t believe NAS Memphis was NATTC yet. If it was from the early 1940's, the poor guy probably got back to base late after tying one on the night before and missed muster. With WW2 going on, everything was taken very seriously. Looks like he had to muster with the OOD (Officer of the Day) at those times on those days.
