Btw you guys have you thought of doing offerup? There is a freebie section, which many people give away amazing things, even things worth a lot but because they have to move they have to give away and do not have much time to sell. We do that here in Vegas and have been rewarded with many treasures :) the ones we do not keep we either pass it on or the good ones sell :) aloha again...going to continue watching ! Love them dentures, a nice set , but George is right ...lol

That "US Skl Team" patch came off of a physical fitness set of black stretch Sports Training Bands. They were designed by the US Ski Team to keep the athletes in shape or to get them back in shape after an accident causing lower joint problems. I know because I used one for several years to strengthen my right knee after I had an ACL reconstruction surgery while in the Navy around 1989-1991. It helped quite a bit but about 9 months after the first primary surgery I ripped the knee out and required an ACL reconstruction procedure.

25:37 I got my National Defence Medal in 1965. They are issued during a conflict I believe.
@dancooper64475 жыл бұрын
The National Defense Service Medal was awarded for multiple periods of time: 1950 - 1954 for the Korean War, 1961 - 1974 for the Viet Nam War, 1990 - 1995 for the Gulf War, and. 2001 - TBD for the Global War on Terrorism. Everyone who served during those times, regardless of whether he/she was in the combat zone is entitled to wear it/them (for multiple periods of service).

At 26:18 you have a brochure on Swaps vs Nashua. That might be very very valuable. I was a young kid in the 1950's and read Sports Illustrated every week. I recall those two horses being very famous, possibly triple crown winner(s). And the jockeys (Acaro and Shoemaker) were famous also. Seems like they were similar to an Ali-Frazier fight! You struck pay dirt for sure...

Kentucky Derby programs are always valuable, but the other old programs don't have much value at all ($5-$10) unless there is a big name horse in them since some people collect programs for specific horses. So don't get too excited about those old programs until you research what horses were in the feature race that day.
@debbivaughn13135 жыл бұрын
Great video! It's a good thing y'all bought this unit and knew what you had in horse racing memorabilia. I'm afraid most people would have trashed the paperwork. You two are sympathetic, and since he served our country, I'm sure you'll do what you reasonably can. Tyfs.

I would give anything to look through all of those racing programs just to see what big name horses, trainers and jockeys are listed in them. I love racing history. BTW, in regards to that Kentucky Derby program, the 1956 Derby winner was Needles. The 1954 Keeneland program advertising the Bluegrass Stakes might hold some value because the horse that won that race was ridden by Eddie Arcaro.

About if he should get his military stuff back despite being in prison... Some people are deeply scarred by their tour of service to their country... And some come back and find they have no job or support when they need it most, when it was promised to them, which puts them in desperate straights, especially if they need medical care at the same time or family issues - and the VA is terrible in the care they give to our vets. It's also true that some people go into the military because they have a certain personality type - but that's a minority. If I knew what you knew, I would try to be compassionate and consider who he was prior to joining, what his military career looked like, what his tour of service was, and try and draw some conclusions as to how this might have effected what happened to bring him to the crime that put him in prison. If it seems that this person was more of a scarred vet - even if the crime was terrible - then I would contact them and ask if they want it. They might not.

IF I remember correctly the 'National Defense" medal was awarded to Merchant Mariners for service in WW2. Also, 26:49 you will want to check to see which president was stamped as issuing that book of scripture. My father's (from Merchant Marine service) had a cross embossed on the front and was issued (as stamped) by F.D. Roosevelt.
