What a nice, thorough and objective review. Thanks, John.

My main fleet consists mostly of atlas. The C30-7s that we’re made back in the 90s run just as quiet as the gold series. I always preferred Atlas models over anything else. I also like the fact Atlas does lots of regional railroads. As a Guilford modeler, they have nearly everything.

Wow that is a super detailed model locomotive. Next addition to my HO locomotive collection may very well be an Atlas product.

That would be cool!

@@tsgmultimedia Yeah I already have two Bachmann GP40-2 model locomotives in BNSF livery generally happy with those but the level of detail along with mechanical quality in that Atlas version clearly illustrates the reason for price difference.

Horn seems soft compared to the bell. I like the performance running. Lots of details I will be looking for one.

Great review! The details are reflected in the price but in my opinion worth it.

That piece of foam that is used as packaging broke off the antenna. This quite common on Atlas Geep's. Lift rings are often broken as well. This is what happen with one of my Rock Island GP40's

Great review as usual! Atlas Master locomotives typically run very smooth and quiet. My Atlas Master switchers are a little louder. Atlas keeps bumping up the details on these locomotives. Regards, NS.

Looks like a very nice locomotive! I checked their website, and I'm glad they don't currently have a road name/paint scheme I'm looking for right now... it makes it far easier to resist this time around. Lol. Looks and sounds great, though!

That is an impressive gp40-2 model, however i wish that Atlas would produce an RF&P or a DT&I version of this model.

Being a WP fan, I have to point out that this is former WP #3545. I might have to pick one up just because. lol I think I might have an Atlas N scale model of 3545 in WP's New Image paint.

Looks great. In fact it has all of the same detail as the MP15DC... Except it’s not $170. And the MP15DC with the same quality & detail was actually $120 when it first came out. I can understand inflation & increased material costs over time but I’ve not found a reasonable explanation for a nearly 100% price increase on even older product offerings. It seems to be several companies, but not all of them, which makes me think material costs are not the reason. It’s like Athearn asking Genesis prices for Pre-assembled Bluebox PS-2 hoppers. Atlas locos are in my opinion the best money can buy. Highly detailed, whisper quiet, smooth running. I rank them #1. I’m also hoping they re-run the Pennzoil 20k gal tankers. So it’s not like I have some dislike for them. I just haven’t heard a reasonable explanation for what otherwise appears to be price-gouging. New enthusiasts certainly can’t afford to start into the hobby, so they’re not helping anyone in that regard. It seems things are on course to implode like they did a few months ago with DC Comics & stores simply saying they’re not going to carry their products anymore because it is too costly & impossible to stay in business if they do.

The prices for things have gone up and up and wages have stayed the same. That's the problem. If people made the same amount adjusted for inflation we'd all have plenty of "leisure" money.

So at this point, how many Atlas gp40s do you have?? It’s gotta be a pretty big number!!

Do you guys think this model is worth the extra $100 over the Athearn Genesis GP39-2 prime for grime?

Beautiful Model, But I want prototypical BRIGHT headlights. Bright Lights are found on all locomotives!!!!!!!!!!!! It sucks buying models and the first thing you have to do is rework the lighting so that it's close to the prototype! Come on MFG's!!!!!!
@tsgmultimedia3 жыл бұрын
I can understand the desire for bright lights but you have to realize that light doesn't scale down the same way as the other physical characteristics. You can have an ultra bright light but your LED will wear out a lot faster!
