0:30 Ah, the joys of railroading. During my work years at the major railroad one morning, I drove into the parking lot, and sitting halfway into the turntable pit was an MP15. The last person moving it failed to apply the hand brake so it very nicely rolled into the pit. Funny how "stuff" always rolls downhill.

actually its a cause of both coupler height being a little off (too low) and/or poor trackwork that causes those issues. If the height is correct and the trackwork is good, and it still does it, slightly bending the hose upward will get it to clear the rail head. I have had to do this to a few cars on a club layout (HO) and my own layout (N).
@stevenspaziani91593 жыл бұрын
Great video especially with the sound effects. Derailments is the biggest problem I have ever had with HO trains and sadly it doesn't take much, a little dirt on the wheels, especially ones with the RP25 flange along with truck mounted couplers. I now use strictly Kadee couplers and every car has it couplers body mounted and I have even taken wheel sets apart put the wheels in my lathe and deepened the tread a little bit to give the flange more to grab the rail with. It's a lot of pain staking work but in the long run well worth the time.
@awesomecronk71832 жыл бұрын
Do you put a slope on the riding surface too?
@stevenspaziani91592 жыл бұрын
@@awesomecronk7183 Yes I do, I try to keep the same RP25 angle but only deep. I use a dremel cutoff wheel attachment that has been beveled so it will fit into the back of the wheel and hold it securely in the lathe, and then with a very sharp fine file I file the flange deeper and use a micrometer to measure to make sure all wheels are filed the same. I have done it with cars and Athearn 6 axle locomotives. I have had great success doing this. Over the years I have had issues with trains derailing on Atlas switches because basically the points suck, but once I started filing the wheels derailments have virtually disappeared, I have also stopped using Atlas swithces and changed tp Pico, much better switch and you don't have to worry about wiring the frog.
@modelrailpreservation2 жыл бұрын
I run a lot of antique HO scale, pre-WWII though 1950s that I still use Mantua Automatic couplers on (AKA Mantua Loop couplers), these were the first automatic couplers, the thing about these, is you can pick up the locomotive, hold it vertical, nose up, and have all the cars dangle down underneath it. So, after I installed a lift out bridge on my layout, I had roughly 12-14" of electrical dead zone either side, only one rail insulated. Unfortunately, a longer wheel base Varney steam locomotive kept power flowing through the supposedly dead rail (Right side of locomotive has un-insulated wheels that are all electrically linked through the frame, loco would not go dead until last wheel is on insulated rail) and with the momentum, it nose dived to the floor. Funny part was, it was a long passenger train of prewar Walthers passenger cars, the entire train was still coupled and the last two cars were still on the track.
