Can't wait for the ride along. It always makes more sense when you see it😮. You're going to need a ton of automobiles to fill the auto yard😊😮😊. Maybe viewers can send in a spare car or two to help fill the void. You'll need a PO box! Cheers 🍻 Earl

hello, again, guys !!! fyi on something i just recently learned and may help "a bit"... at 15:43 you discussed how one of your new members liked dimensional loads. well, the loads in the gon at that point of your video are way out of scale for telephone poles, and i mean WAY out of scale !!! just look at the ones that are readily available to us for purchase and, as i am sure you already know, are a lot "skinnier" ...but here is an interesting option... a friend of mine has a son that works down in pennsylvania in the fracking industry and he said that his company, in particular, uses hard-wood wooden poles that have a greater diameter than a standard telephone pole but are actually nearly the same length as a telephone pole. i have 2 cars that have this "fatter" pole load and i don't know how many times visitors have commented on them saying " nice telephone pole load"... correction is always immediate and polite, and the load is more prototypical to say the least !!! the bigger poles are laid down in wet/muddy fields side by side for their heavy equipment, which allows for easier traversing once mother nature really messes things up weather-wise !!! just thought you might like this little nugget of info.... i have recently seen a power company using the same practice, but with square timbers, for the same purpose while constructing those really huge power line metal towers in south buffalo near the old bethlehem steel plant... boy, that was a very wet area and the timbers easily did their job !! mud and debris everywhere but the heavy equipment rolled on easily !! blessings to all !!
@SilverCreekSub Жыл бұрын
Oh very much so!! That was the only thing he could find for a place holder for the moment, he was actually in his friend wood shop last weekend making closer to scale poles, so we are excited to see those, much of the stuff on our layout are just place holders for the moment. But I appreciate your attention to detail!! Cheers

Nice update video. I wanted to inquire about your Helix design. Most of the Helix’s I’ve seen to date, everyone is cutting them in a circular pattern, but I noticed that your design was all squared off. I love the idea of NOT wasting so much plywood on my helix that I’m about to build. Any pointers or suggestions as to how you calculated your size of panels for your quarter sheet turns? I do know that my radius will be 32.5 inches (HO scale) for 4.5 loops as my decks will be separated by 18 inches. So I know that I will have a 2% incline with 4” spacing between my spirals.

We used trapezoid shaped pieces and then laminated them together at an offset to use them as a continuous curve

How are you doing your block for the hidden yard, do you have a power toggle to turn power off? My question would be how to wire a long block with a feeders and a toggle?
@SilverCreekSub Жыл бұрын
Our layout is dived into about 12 different sections, each section is isolated from the others with insulated joints, each section has its own circuit breaker. What you have to do is run all the feeders from one section of track, to a common bus line, then on that bus line, install your toggle switch, then after the switch back to the power source

Excellent update sometimes the process isn't all the stuff one gets to see. It's the what seems like miles of wire and laced together explitives that gets the cool stuff to work. Kinda like a GE😂😂 Why did you guys pick Wellington as a start point. The only reason I ask is because I seem to remember a tower by that name from my trips to Montreal.
@SilverCreekSub Жыл бұрын
Just a random name, all the names on the layout have been picked off a map around Ontario, Indiana and Ohio, just whatever works 😁

good mornin', guys !!! excellent video i must say !!! ( a la martin short, if you remember him with the second city comedy troupe out of toronto ... probably not as i am dating myself here !!!) things really look great !! big question ... as i live 30 miles directly south of buffalo, do you have open house visitations during the year ? i am pretty sure you are in the southern part of ontario but not exactly sure where. as stated to you last month, my track is all in, 3 cn gevos lightly weathered, tons of just plain old cleaning and organizing, and my next dilemma, which truly haunts me... "how many of the new rapido na chlorate cars should i buy ? " model railroading, walleye fishing, faith, fun, ice cold molsons.... such is the life of the retired model railroaders !!! as usual, GO LEAFS !!! ( although i must admit, that new contract given just the other day is highly questionable... wouldn't you agree !!! denny springville, ny

lol yes sir I have to agree!! And I would say 30 of the chlorate hoppers should do!! 🤣 And I hope Willy styles is worth the 11 million AAv
@gerritbearda154 Жыл бұрын
One thing I would like to see in any layout is track level variations. Placing track on a flat board makes for a sterile layout not representatives of real life where grades are ever present. Hills and dales with track level variations are justified and makes train running realistic for the operator where throttle (power) usage has to be increased or decreased depending upon the track grade.
