John, you should try yellow or green Frog tape, the edge masking is activated by brushing the edge of the tape with a brush and water. It is a painters tape that was originally design to use with latex house paint. Just passing on a modellers painting tip! Ralph.

Man ,that`s where good old Tamiya tape works it`s magic(I used to build 1/48 scale model aircraft and did all kinds of masking and camo schemes, I must have been a lot more patient then) ,but brother you are doing a bang up job.....love watching multi part video....learning plenty !!

Before painting the darker color I spray the tap with the lighter color to seal the edge of the tape with the original color?(yellow) something I learned long ago. Nice job.Hal

A draftsman French Curve would help you out a lot to get that warbonnet dialed in.

GREAT masking technique, Dan!! 👍👍 I don't usually give advice to experienced modelers, but I'd like to share something my Dad taught me.... After the masking is done, burnished, and you're ready, in this case - spray another coat of Yellow over the masking. That way, if there's ANY problem with the tape or lumpy details, the paint bleed will be the same color. Also, that coat will make an even tighter seal against the tape mask! You can use that or not, but there's my 4 cents. (inflation!)😉😊 ~ Carmine

Have you used Tamiya masking tape? It's thinner than painters tape. I've just started to use it in the last year and I'm sold on it. Comes in different widths. Loco looks great...

you have a sd40-2 snoot which is probably why some of the decals don't work
