As a suggestion, and I know it'll be harder than it appears, but I think commercial building interiors would take you further, instead of the ALWAYS disappointing cardboard pictures that are doing duty now. Like the shelving of a C-store, or racks in a paint and hardware store, or a bookstore, or the tables, booths, and counters of a bar (don't forget the pool table!). These don't even have to be that deep (unless it's a corner building, with big windows on two sides). One thing I have noticed in my modeling is the play of shadows from the fixtures in whatever room, the unexpected stray light sources from open interior doors, lights in a stairwell, or hallway, showing into a dark apartment, as somebody's just coming home. Admittedly, I may be just TOO into the detail, but as a photographer, details are sorta part of the territory. If you want to see a building that just OOZES foreboding, look at a building in which all the windows are TRULY AND UNIFORMLY DARK. Next time you're out & about at night, truly look at the buildings around you. Damn-near NONE of 'em are absolutely dark in their windows, and those that ARE, just reek of Bad News.
