There are no federal regulations. You enter a contract with hoa and there is no law in us that says hoa cannot limit amateur radio. The city and county should accommodate amateur radio but not hoa

What you need are extendable poles that are either auto or manually extended. This way they are "temporary" i.e. only extended and seen when in use (no worse than a sun umbrella or shade structure). The other option would be a pergola on the roof (made from timber) with the antenna in it (might be too high to make code). Or magnetic loop on hinged mast. Mast raised for use. 73 de VK2AOE

Hi Darren, I have run 40 meter NVIS antennas for many years with great success, couple things 1) with a nvis antenna the typical loop antenna impedance is much lower than what you think it is, its really like 75-100 ohms due to close proximity to ground (which is good thing as it gives you reflective power gain straight up) probably a 2:1 balun is more optimum am thinking, 2) With your antenna on the roof, aren't you pulling in a lot of the QRM / AC power noise from the Solar Panels and any related AC power wires up there on the Roof? I would think the man made noise so close to the antenna with the antenna looking right into it would generate quite the noise floor.. My NVIS antenna are in my backyard 100 feet or more away from any powerlines, antennas etc. It is an extremely quiet quiet antenna and with gain straight up. Keep up the good work.... de Jerry KC2UT

That sucks man! You could had put flags on the poles or build a system to make the poles lay down when you are not on the air. 73

Just a thought, you have the 4:1 balun, it wouldn't be that difficult to turn that skyloop into an off center fed dipole. The last one I built ended up 12 feet on the short leg and 52 feet on the long leg. Running a coax choke (12 turns through a FT-240-43 toroid) close to the feed point and some clip on ferrites on your audio/mike cables might fix the RFI. Good luck...
@DarrenN4VFR Жыл бұрын
I'm going to my my 1:1 Common Mode Choke just below the 4:1 Balun. I'm getting RFI in my SSB transmission on 40m also can hear it in my headset without the MON on. Yup, it's RFI.

I moved out of 1/3 acre with hoa to 1acre with 150 oaks and pines no hoa. I would never do the hoa thing again. Boats, antennas.....all problematic. No looking back, no regrets. I can do what I want still have to be legal with township, insurance company and xyl. No complaints or regrets, having fun. Simpathies, always a work around. Might have been able to hang Christmas lights, heli pad lol, see what they say? Peace & Enjoy!

Easy way to do it is lower it right down to 2ft off the roof on insulated poles, you will not see it from the ground and it will work perfectly.

Just a rethink, if I was doing a loop on the roof, I would over hang the wire over the edge of the roof, no poles require just something to support the wire away for the edge, then the roof would not be acting as ground.. But I would use 1mm wire as opposed to that heavy duty stuff. As it stands I can't see that loop been effective but a compromise on 40M. Have you no AGC in Thesis, you are running the radio agc wide open, with S7 of noise!

I'm thinking you should be able to tell the HOA to take a leap into the gulf with no lifeproserver during a hurricane. But with out that option, you should put a USA. Flag on one and a Texas flag on the other. They should mind their own business which is not destroying your freedom to practice a hobby which is beneficial during an emergency situations which benefits the community. The HOA is for cutting grass in common areas and looking after large expensive maintenence items like private roads or road clearing in snow covered areas in the north... perhaps roofing or siding in high-rise buildings which aren't the case here in Texas. Anyway it's a darn shame they constantly over step their good purpose and get into nosy neighbor meddling to destroy someone else's freedom.

I don’t understand how HOA works. Why are they so powerful? I’ve seen the HOA prevent people from selling their homes, this annoyances with antennas. Who gives them the power to decide what you do with your property? 73
@wrkey Жыл бұрын
The HOA's power is derived from the deed restrictions. When property is purchased with deed restrictions, at the time of the purchase the buyer is AGREEING IN FULL to abide by the deed restrictions. An HOA is the governing body that oversees the compliance to the deed restrictions that the BUYER AGREED TO at the time of the purchase. When a deed restriction is violated the HOA is is not only empowered but they are OBLIGATED to ask/make the property owner to implement changes to bring the property into compliance. The HOA (of which the property owner is a voting member of) is not "deciding what you can do with your property", the owner of the property AGREED TO the limits and/or requirements when they originally purchased the property. This last part is the most common erroneous statement that property owners express when there is a disagreement. Yes, it is your property. Yes, you can do what you want with your property... AS LONG AS is conforms to what YOU AGREED TO when you originally purchased the property. Generally, property owners who find themselves in the predicament of clashing with the HOA, it is because they did not fully read the deed restrictions prior to buying the property. Darren did exactly what he needed to do to conform to the deed restrictions he had previously agreed to. Perhaps a better title to the video should be "My antenna violates my deed restrictions." instead of the HOA Complains.
@sc20910 Жыл бұрын
The HOA is there in an overall sense to make sure property values don’t go down due to degraded visual appeal of the neighborhood , so they do have a beneficial function over the long term. Someone just needs to engineer a high gain antenna that makes a home look better than it did before.
