The HOA story is a common one. A new HOA president is elected and becomes power-hungry. They attempt to enforce excessive rules on both HOA members and non-members alike. Eventually, they overstep, leading to legal troubles, fines, and sometimes even jail time. Typically, they are voted out due to their actions, ostracized for what they've done, sell their home, and leave the area.

First story: All of that had the word lawsuit written all over the place. First, the teachers don't givnig liancy to a dissable kid. Second, the school staff not accomodating a kid with special needs. And third and last, showing clear abelism with that comment and the bogus ground for expulsion. A weird address is not grounds for expulsion.

Actually, if you don't live in the school district, you need to go to the district you live in. So sadly, that was legit grounds for expulsion, and could have gotten the parents in trouble. This is to enforce racial and socioeconomic discrimination by forcing poor and minority students into their terrible local schools, and excluding them from safe, clean, wealthy WASP suburban schools.

I'm glad I didn't get a house in a location where an HOA isn't likely to ever form, because in my state of NC, if an HOA gets over 60% of signatories in a given area, all the rest are members whether they like it or not. However, they can't make any rules going against state law.

You wouldn't believe how angry my teachers were when they got the doctor's note that I have a teeny tiny bit of brain damage- just enough to mess up my fine motor control wiring. No matter how much they punished me, no matter how many pages of drill writing they assigned me, no matter how much they marked down my grades for poor penmanship (this was the '80s) my handwriting was never going to get faster or better. They were personally offended that they couldn't assign me drill writing any more, couldn't grade my assignments on penmanship, and had to accept typewritten reports. They got theirs back by refusing to accept my typewritten work unless it was perfect. If I missed a keystroke and had to fix it (with correc-type or correcting fluid) they refused to accept it. They even accused me of having my mother type out my work. If it was my work, why the F did that matter? The principal at the time was about as much use as the proverbial teats on a rain barrel, so. . .
