My suggestion would be to make keeping your living room clean a priority. For me I pick mine up every night before I go to bed. It usually only takes a few minutes & it becomes a habit pretty quickly. Then when your struggling with other areas in your house go sit in your living room. It will remind you of how good it feels to be in a finished room & it will hopefully give you motivation to go back & tackle the area that you were struggling with. Hope this help 💕

I have noticed such a huge change in how easily you can let things go now vs. when you began your journey. It's been awesome to watch your progress with that particular burden of placing a lot of emotional value on possessions. I'm sure it still feels like a massive struggle for you but you're very obviously having a much easier time of it. Kudos on all of your progress!

Thank you - It has gotten easier as time goes, for sure! There are still some things that I struggle with (like you say), but now I feel like I've detached from items that really shouldn't have been so 'important to me' to begin with. Thanks for following along for so long! :) Take care!

Yes yes yes, been watching you from the start and I LOVE that you are going back to some of these original spaces to keep up. Because it's so true, a decluttering journey doesn't happen in a weekend, not if you actually had a real clutter problem! And you can't just magically make a home filled with stuff get better, even if you make HUGE strides every weekend/video. Because part of this issue is HOW you maintain your stuff, and like you said, that concept of finding actual homes for things. Change is a process, life happens. You're still living in the home, working, taking care of a kid. Your time isn't ONLY dedicated to this new life process, so it still takes time. Anyway, I love it. I love your process. Your house is beautiful and you're beautiful and I really appreciate you sharing this with us. I have been on a journey for many years, but it was more down than up until the last 6 months when I adopted a BIG dog that makes my home feel TINY. (up to 4 pets now.) That means with the 4 potentially destructive creatures, and one giant one that doesn't know her own size, I need to decide if my things are as important to me as it was to rescue her. So far, she's winning by a landslide. But still, I work and general life maintenance takes time, so the process is slow. I also have access to a LOT of free things at my job, so I have to be MUCH more discerning from my hoarder tendencies to not keep everything just because I can. Anyway, I'm rambling. But thanks for the video and including us on the journey.

I have to laugh when you say you've been at it for six months, I've been at it for two years and I'm kind of a neat freak to begin with, but I still have clutter. Nothing more mind numbing than shredding old paperwork for days on end, but when you reach the end it's wonderful.

haha, well good for you, seriously! I love hearing about others who have been at this for so long. In regards to the fact that you've been at it for 6 months.....the fact you are still trying to stay on top of things and haven't given up is AMAZING. Give yourself a deadline is sometimes a recipe for disaster because when you don't hit your goal, it can make you want to give up. It took me FOUR YEARS to go through both my parents' houses, my business and my personal "stuff". No kids, no husband, no pets. When it was all "done" we managed to fit ALL 3 of our wordly possessions in a 1-10 ft moving truck. That was 3 months ago and today we donated a trunkful of items. We have another trunkful ready for tomorrow ☺ It takes awhile when you're unsure of what your actual goal is. Now we know and we're almost there. Loving your videos.

Amazing new video :) You completed sooooo many little projects you had around. It really transformed the space by tackling all the "things to do" you speak of. It was more about putting things into their new home after the de-clutter process you have been doing. 6 months is not really long when you consider it takes time to break old habits and handle the aftermath of the de-clutter process. Just being able to take things to a donation centre is time in itself.

You are doing GREAT! One thing about the KonMari method that is flawed is the idea that everyone can get their whole house done within 6 months... it might be true in urban japan, but in an American household with a garage, shed, business with storage that goes along with it... to get it all done in 6 months life would have to stop! The closer you get to finishing, the smaller the piles to be sorted get and the more time you have to keep up with everything else, including unfinished projects! You are gaining SO MUCH ground! I'm sure your hubby is super proud of you too! I'm definitely proud!

I'm having a hard time with my junk room. I did great for a bit and now I've been avoiding it. So totally there with you. I'm going to let this video inspire me to work on that room this weekend! I love these videos! I like to declutter in small sections, e.g. one shelf at a time, so even if a whole room isn't done then at least a part of it is, and it spurs me on to get the whole room looking equally as good as the section that's been decluttered.

I'm also trying to declutter my papers and it's such a pain. I think the hardest part is that there's so little tangible result for the length of the project! It definitely adds up, but overall it seems so little "bang for your buck" that it's hard to stay motivated. Good news is that I'm on the tail end of that process and I'm starting to get the accomplished feels, so if you keep pushing and chipping away, you will too. Good luck! it is really fascinating watching you on your journey. So thanks for doing these honest videos! I started decluttering a few weeks ago myself. Of course I am far from finished, but the results are obvious and calming so far :) if you struggle to keep an area clutterfree, perhaps some bins would be useful. The kids always drag toys to the living room for example, so I made a bin there for the easy toy tidy up, the children can help put it away after some days or when its full. I also made a bin for my books, comics and magazines, which I struggle to put away right after I am through (I rather do this in a bulk), so they are not cluttering everything up. I tried for so long to do the housework "the right way", but it always failed. Now I am catering to my laziness (and that of my family), trying to go with the flow of our home instead of against it, while streamlining the whole of housework and our posessions. And finally, it stays tidy(er)! not perfect, but oh so much better than it ever was.

That you don't clean up, before you film, is one of the things, I like the about your videos. Your house look like the house of a real life messy persons. Not the house of someone in complete control, who wants to teach the pathetic messy people, but of someone who is there herself and who takes us along for the journey out of it. It is so much more inspirational and relatable. Now I will go and tackle the elephant in my room; the box in my living room of random stuff that didn't made it further for the last 3-4 months.

I've been putting things aside. To give away or sell or trash, but it's stopping me from finishing my project. I find the last step is the hardest. Your living room looks amazing! Good luck with your papers, they took me forever!

I will do one! And if you follow my facebook (or instagram) I'll post a pic soon of the MASSIVE pile I have right now. It's scary and no sane person should let it pile up like that...! ;-) Take care!

I like gardening so decided to compost. When I figured out that all forms of paper from paper toilet rolls to junk mail ...paper towels etc...were able to get me free soil ( since it was going to be tossed in the garbage anyway) I have become a paper hound instead of a paper piler. Everything is going into the compost. I actually process the mail next to the compost pail (transport receptacle to the composter outside) and hardly have the issues I used to of paper piling up. I still have a work in progress for the paperwork that needs action because that can pile up but it is so much better than before. Filing gets put in a file drawer but I do need to get hanging files to sort them...at least they made it to the drawer. It has also made me save less in the files...out with the utility bills and phone bills etc. Who needs that crap. It is now compost fodder! Recycling changed my world as well. Between recycling and composting my family went from 45 gallon bag of garbage a week to just a 39 gallon bag a month.

PS... keep a paper shredder nearby to make it easier to process your mail and it will compost faster being shredded.

Thank you so much. This was so inspiring to know that you have trouble finishing stuff too lol!. I have been working on clearing out my basement for months. I think I have actually made some headway, but it is taking me a very long time. Now for the attic lol!

Just do it :) I did the same. I went from messy (not hoarder, but like seriously messy) to moderately minimalist. Not extremly minimalist, but I probably got rid of 2/3 of the things I owened and now there is nothing that doesn't have a home, everyt surface is empty. It was my only chance to ever get a good looking appartment as I am REALLY bad in organizing and arranging things. I did the decluttering very quickly. 60 squaremeters in about 8 days plus a bit more to find the perfect home for everything (I had to buy a few organizing systems to get everything perfect). I think the quicker you go trough this process, even though it is very hard work, the better is the effect it has on you. Seeing my home changing so dramatically and quickly changed my mindset...

I would love to see what you have done with the office/messy room that you have shown in two other videos :) I love your videos, I am like you, keep on to every little thing but you have inspired me to deal with the small items (and the bigger) that I just don't usually see, they are just there, as a part of the rooms. So thank you for inspiring me :)

Keep up the hard work! It will be worth it. My best advice is to think about your space rather than about your stuff. What does your ideal version of the living room you have look like? I did this and created a Pinterest board of colors and decor ideas to help me flesh out the style I'm going for. Decluttering then became so much easier because I only kept things that I knew would fit. Thanks for posting your journey!

Hi Rachel. My elephant is packed away in the pile of boxes still in my living room. I have the samewooden worry sculpture...rub its back to take all your worries away...or so i was told when i first found it. You are an inspiration....and a reminder to me to keep going....ive been here 6 months but my boxes are still there....it was reduced...then grew then reduced then one last growth when i brought everything from storage..the drystuff from when my storage got flooded. I totally get what you mean about decision paralysis.....i have a week off before having to be back to school....and its time to sort it all out...and work on the stuff that got put aside when school projects were at their max...I still have a few left...rhat i was gratefully given an extention on....but also want to tackle this living room. I also have paintings i need to hang.. one really heavy one....which will need to find studs in the wall sobi dont make a big bunchbof holes..also i love the paintings... but reminds me of life with my ex....so i may not hang it at all....and sell it...let it go with the past.....i have many blank canvases....maybe paint something new... for this new chapter.. The light canvases can be hung with a tack...but now to decide which will stay.. as i have less wall space here than my last few places. Im about ready to dobthe coin toss... my entire apartment could fit in your kitchen and living room....so all of my excess feels very cluttered...still ...with many boxes....that im afraid of unpacking because there isnt space for anything.but with each box i find one or twoitems that i love and the paralysis of deciding which to keep and which to send off on its own new journey. Your livingroom and library look fantastic. Thanks for being so real.
