If the side of your closet ist your dumping ground for worn clothes you could try to move your hamper there to train yourself to put the clothes in there. And when you think you have it down you can move the hamper slowly to the spot you want it in.

A thought to push you towards minimizing: the reason you can let things sit in piles forgotten for years is that you don't actually have a NEED for those things. If someone gave you a gift of something you really needed, it would get used right away! For instance, if none of your shoes fit anymore and someone gave you a pair that did fit, you'd have to unwrap them and use them. If you bought something you need, it'd get used-for instance, if you completely run out of eggs and then bought more. Like you say in your no-spend videos, you have enough of everything already. You have the whole needs bucket filled, and your wants bucket is also overflowing. For the clothes, since a lot of stuff you're actively wearing is in the laundry, I'd recommend going through your closet and drawers and pulling out some items that you're not wearing to donate. This will make room to put back the clothes you wear the most into your closet and dresser. Even if you like all the items, some of them naturally get more use than others, and you have finite space, so you need to make some hard choices, because you know you don't truly need 100 shirts etc. I think often switching your brain can help when it comes to clothes, so instead of "Do I like this?" you ask yourself "If my entire wardrobe disappeared, would I want this specific piece back so I could continue to function in my day to day life?

But that's difficult for a horder. You can't let go of things that easy, it takes time. She will get there one time, i am sure.
@corinnestauffiger56934 жыл бұрын
I thought the same. If the clothes are piling up like this and there are still clothes to wear, there is room to reduce. But there is no rush. Step by step. I am not a hoarder and still sometimes I find it difficult to part with clothes.
@auntie_kristie4 жыл бұрын
Before putting clothes away, I like to look at my closet and drawers at the clothes I didn’t wear and see if there is anything I no longer want to keep. It’s easier to do this before putting away the clothes recently worn.
@kaseyjondahl79794 жыл бұрын
I think it would help her to do that with her clothes as well but I think maybe having her put things into a quarantine box might help her so she doesn't get as overwhelmed because its not gone right away...

You are so right now! I gotta adjust the intro! And yes, paper is so tough and it took time to get to this point!! You can get here too, just do baby steps and what feels right in your heart! I will cheer you on even if it’s 1 piece of paper!! Because I know that piece of paper could have been 10 mental battles before you let it go ❤️❤️
@nenemaria-cornfieldsgarden4 жыл бұрын
Paper is my block too. One box of papers just takes so long and so much decision energy to go through. Even when it's all trash it still takes so long and even after one huge box it doesn't feel like you've got very far. I try and limit papercoming in as much as possible but running two businesses the stream is endless (plus it needs to be stored for years for tax reasons). One thing im really trying to do is file things once a week to keep on top of it. I've still got years of old paper go to through though. Found a load from 2002-5 this week and that was so exhausting to even look at so I just gave up and hid it away again and found an easier box to declutter 😆

November 2023. I've never hoarded. When I empty a bin, I give the bin away or move it to another part of the apartment. I wanted a plant stand, so I looked in my laundry room and there was a milk crate. I seldom buy anything. Tina, Al's wife
@goldfishsnake4 жыл бұрын
Okay one other crazy idea: you've cleared a lot of space in the basement. You want a tranquil bedroom. What if you took EVERYTHING besides the clothes you needed to get through one week and stored it in the basement as an experiment? I'm talking extra storage furniture, trinkets, 90% of your clothes all gone, and experiment almost like it's a hotel and you're on vacation and just have the items in the room that you cannot function without. And try living like that for two weeks or a month to see how it feels. Is it more calming? Are there things you had to run down to the basement to get because you needed to wear them, or were you fine with just the smaller amount of items? It'd be a total mental reset. If you missed having more stuff in the room, you can just put it back. If you didn't miss it, well then you'd feel more motivated to declutter things that no longer fit into the vision of your perfect room. I truly feel like removing everything from the room and giving yourself a clean slate could be revolutionary for you.
@itoshiibaka82674 жыл бұрын
I think a shock might be different for her with hoarding disorder than for people with other coping mechanisms. I'm excited for her to Konmari her clothes again. 🙂 I definitely agree, though, that it would be a good idea to have all of the clothes in the bedroom but nothing else, all of the toys in the toy room but nothing else, all of the boys' non- toys in their room, but nothing else, all of the crafting things in one area with nothing else... Really categorizing and devoting spaces to one thing so the hoard can't churn. 👍

If you want an instant fix for making your room look cleaner just be sure to shut your drawers when you pull something out. I find that and a made bed just reduce the visual “noise” so, so much. I’d also suggest taking your winter bin directly to the laundry room and folding things straight into it from the dryer so it doesn’t even have a chance to sit around waiting to be dealt with. I love that you said “I’m a recovering hoarder”. Way to make progress, we can totally see the shift in your space and your thinking. Keep it up lovely 😊

Could you meet your habit half way? Instead of pulling the clothes up on the floor near the wardrobe or at the end of your bed, move the washing basket to that spot for a short time so you are doing the action of putting your clothes directly in. After you've built that habit the basket can move back to a spot where it's easily accessible but out of the main walkways.

I've been on your channel since the very beginning. You have come so far in your healing. Congratulations! Your good and loving heart is so very appreciated. I have a few ideas to support you as you are progressing in decluttering and tidying your home. 1. Only bring into a room items that correspond to that rooms function; such as for your bedroom your clothes, bedding, etc. The kitchen only items that correspond to a kitchens function, such as food, dishes, etc. 2. It might help you to setup a day to do your shopping/errands so you can put away all of the items immediately when you arrive home, so you are not hurrying to do this when you have to take your children somewhere or get dinner ready. 3. Allow yourself enough and extra time to do and complete a task without having to rush so you don't get sidetracked. I hope these ideas help you and support you in your journey forward.

Yaaaay, as always super proud of you & great job trying to continue the energy! Like reminding yourself that the gifts were meant to be used & enjoyed (like gift cards.. Kinda, treat yo self!). Not always easy, but so good to have! Everyone must always be giving their suggestions, but of course just what works for you. Some ideas: -Wasn't sure the location but one thing that helped me is just having the hamper in the corner of the bedroom or by my closet. That way when I see it get full going to bed I can remind myself to tackle it before it spills over & easy to change. -When you do wash & get to organizing, obviously you can sort your seasonal clothes to their designated space, but for the ones in season, maybe act like you just got them & so pick one or two items to go when you out them back in the drawers to make space. Think of the drawers like this seasons luggage. You can get to the next declutter when you get there but in the meantime this is the current season your living with. Idk if that trick make sense or works for you, just an idea :) -lastly just love that your practicing the special places you made and the homes for your things to help inventory the spaces and stuff :) you made it look so easy because you've come so far! Keep it up!

Crucial ADHD hack: put a laundry basket ANYWHERE that you regularly change clothes. Yes, that means if your kids strip in the living room, you should put a basket there. It's much easier to throw a lid/blanket over the top when guests arrive than have to search the floor and couch cushions for stray undies. 🤣 Same with the bedrooms. If you get changed by the side of the bed, have an *open* hamper within arms' reach. It's ok to have one small one on each side if that's how it shakes out. Do what *works,* not what you think you're supposed to do. 🙂

I think you are getting close to the organizing stage!! A lot of your "clutter" seems to be stuff that just is not put away. A lady that has changed my life is Clutterbug here on KZbin. Basically she states there are 4 types of organizing styles and when you find yours and organize your space that way it makes putting things away less difficult and less stressful and keeps those hot spots clutter free. For example I change clothes by my side of the bed, doesn't matter if I'm going to take a shower or not my clothes are coming off by my bed. My husband changes clothes in the bathroom. Doesn't matter if he is taking a shower or not. So I put my hamper on my side of the bed and his hamper in the bathroom and now no dirty clothes on the floor. Neither of us was going to walk to our hamper but now they are less than an arms length away from where we take our clothes off. Check her out. It will change your life. Also, if you find something isn't working for you its OK to change it.

That was great! What will help you not pile clothes in front of closet? Maybe just check at end of night, as a first step, then try to just put in hamper when you take off. Your decluttering muscle is super strong, now you need to work on the no pile muscle. You deserve a beautiful bedroom.

Yes!!! This is something that will be added to a Flylady control journal! I’m had this idea to create a simple one for myself in September!! A night time routine will be making sure clothes are off the floor or in the hamper!

I’m catching up on videos and I have a tip that may help you with gifts. I always struggle with gifts too and to help, I take pictures and keep them in a special folder on my computer so any time I’m feeling anxious I can scroll through all these pictures of wonderful gifts and wonderful memories. I also have a problem with wanting to keep packaging and every single piece of the gift, and I have a small bin set aside for these items and I am on the hunt for a scrapbook so I can sit down and add the pictures of the gifts, and any packaging to make a nice scrapbook so I’m getting use out of it and feel like I can keep it all “perfect” but it’s still smaller and easier to keep. Just a thought! Any time I go through items my main thought is not do I want to keep this, it’s how can I display this item in my room/future house. To me, everything has some sort of sentimental attachment to it and I have hard times letting go of things, but I also feel if an item is truly important to you it should be used and displayed with pride around our home. If it’s sitting in a box hidden in the basement how is it bringing us joy? Any items I currently have in storage are holiday items or items I just don’t have room for as I have only one room I can use for display. But that’s what really helps me when I’m deciding what truly is important to me, would I want this shown off in my house? You are amazing my dear!!! Lots of love❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Keeping up with it and breaking bad habits does take time but you're getting there! I find the more stuff I have the harder it is to keep on top of. Especially with clothes, because I have so many still, things can sit in piles untouched because I don't need them right away. If I just had fewer clothes to choose from, I'd have to do the laundry more often and put them away before it turned into a overwhelming clothes mountain 🤣 Dishes and pans are the same, once i decluttered all our kitchen and kept the things I used most, I had no choice but to fill the dishwasher or clean up right away as I needed them for next time. My kitchen is so much tidier and it's not an overwhelming pile to clean up once a week instead of a little every day.

You are doing amazing 🌟🌟 I’m seriously so proud of you!! The clothes, yeah we have a lot but we’ll get there!!

Weigh the need to keep clothes against the anxiety it causes? Special occasion, office, athletic, yard work classifications. They may be pretty but not practical? Gifting someone else for a good cause helps. We love you! Happy to see your post. Today is taking the cat to the vet day. Our elderly kitty will take a very dim view of this. PS made my phone calls while cat was in vets getting her immunizations. Went through the list.

I don’t have the space for your items so at 27 (3kids and a husband 🤣) I am having to address my issues, I am also starting long term counselling for ‘side running’ issues. I have decluttered for 2 yrs bit by bit and it has made a difference but mess still plays on my mind. It will always be a work in process but it’s one I am ready for.

I am so proud of you! I love your channel. Does hoarding have a spectrum, because in the last six month or so, I have really been working to declutter my spaces(bedroom, purse,inventory of purses etc.) and Through watching your videos, I see some of the same habits that I’VE been working through. How do I know the difference between hoarder tendencies and “just being messy?”
@ahoardersheart4 жыл бұрын
Yes! There is a spectrum of hoarding! They break it down to level 1-5 with Level 5 being what you see on Hoarders Buried Alive. I was a level 3-4 in the beginning and now a level 2. Someone asked if I could do a video on it and I definitely will in the future ❤️🙏🏻❤️ In the mean time you could google “5 levels of hoarding disorder” and a chart should show right up for you!!
