For wintertime you could doub the walls with the claymixture that you used for the fireplace and then cover with white "paint", maybe something like chalk. White really reflects heat and light so the hobbithole would be warmer and more light without having more lights on when door is closed for heath preservation. Greetings from the Netherlands!

@Marine5D Жыл бұрын
@@juggernautz Since he clearly did not use clay which is by itself a binding material you have to ask yourself what did he used to bind and harden that mixture together? Simply from the color of the mixture i can tell that he used some amount of cement and i think it's fine but he could have disclosed that. I wouldn't judge. In old days people used clay to build fireplaces and earlier they build burning altars or simple bonfire in the middle of dwellings.
@juggernautz Жыл бұрын
@@Marine5D Look at the video starting at 8 to 8:24 minutes to see what color the dirt is in the area. I'm not sure where this video was filmed but pure clay minerals do exist in light colors and some are a beige color, depends on the country and region. Sandy Loam has a lighter color. If he mixed cement then ask him via email on his page. click on his name, then About to see email link. Could he add limestone and sand to get a cement like strength, sure but its worth knowing since he's teaching with silent videos.

No question that this was fascinating to watch. In fact I loved it. I did so though with some wonder around where all the stones came from and some of that wood and the water (bottled I see). Also some questions on how the decorative rounds become so precisely sized and "screwed" in (hate to say it but I suspect battery-operated screwdriver which begs the question around recharging of said battery). The imagery of playing fetch with the dog, picking berries and making home-made jam and seeming to exist off the land are lovely but are belied by the wurst and eggs and flour brought in. I mention these because there seems to be some idealized version here that people could do this without some very modern technology and food/water supply chains involved. So heads up if one's thinking is going that way. Now there are things most noteworthy. The top-notch well-honed cutting tools were a key to this for sure plus this young man's equally top-notch skill around planning, cutting and executing. He is talented, no question. And there was somethjing satisfying about seeing what he had set up. I hope this dugout lasts through the seasons.

Watched a lot of bushcraft types, and you're beyond even that - you are a true artisan. AMAZING! In my humble, you are the best I have seen. Excellent work, young man. I wish you were here at my farm!!!

If anyone is wondering what is going on with his dog, there is almost certainly a big stinging fly trying to get him. Those flies generally target the lower back and base of the tail and they HURT! Those flies prefer moist shady areas. In the southern states in the USA, they'd terrorize me and my dog when we went for walks near the woods.

i just wonder where his backwoods SAWMILL is located? you don't get planks like the ones he made the bed and roof out of with just a hatchet... good build but there was a bit more going on behind the scenes than one would think.
