This Hobby Boss German Kriegslokomotive is a 1:72 scale plastic kit and it was a bit of a challenge to build. A fun challenge of course. I think it looks pretty cool. Nicely detailed. It doesn't run or anything. It's a static model.
The only real problem I have with this is the awful rubber sand pipes. Just dreadful. But oh well. It's a minor problem.

the reason for 2 different buffers is that it prevents buffer locking (buffers on 2 cars slipping over each other and lock in place on sharp curves)

Too late to help you but I thought I'd mention that another KZbin modeler, I think it was Night Shift, had the same problems you did. He built the tracks first and let the loco sit on them while the wheel glue was setting up. He also threw away those stupid sand pipes and made new ones out of copper wire. Just something to think about for further models. Nice build otherwise.

Ah, the Deutsche Bahn klasse 52 Kriegslok. The pinnacle of German locomotive engineering. Lightweight, powerful, and cheap. It’s like a diesel but minus the internal combustion engine.

Deutsche Bahn was founded in 1994, succeeding Deutsche Bundesbahn in the west of Germany, and Deutsche Reichsbahn in the east of Germany, immediately after they had been re-merged, following the split in 1949.

In the UK, the 'water pump' would be either pumps for the breaks, or pumps for the system to open up hopper trucks, and I suspect those are for one of those uses here. The tanks under the boiler are almost cirtainly air tanks and are part of the same system.

The box above the air pumpe is just to protect those parts of the pumpe, which is connected to the smoke, from getting too cold during winter weather! All those parts of this model, which are connected to smoke and water are protected against freezing Up! And there are caps over the lamps to reduce the light. All these things were used during the war, the "antifreeze" especially for the russian winter. And by the way, the form of smoke defletors used in this kit is just an experimental one. Only one or two locomotives were fitted with those wooden Ines for a short period of time, those which were used regularely were smaller and made of thin!

I built the same model a few months ago mainly to go with my 1/72 model of the German WW2 RailGun Dora to show a comparison of the size of the rail gun. I agree with all your comments about fit and build and as you say the sand pipes are a nightmare and I did the same, near enough is good enough. Some of the cab fittings were also a nightmare including the brake system I have arthritic fingers and many times found myself using two pairs of tweezers. For a scale model of 1/72 there is a tremendous amount of detail and goes well with my Dora rail gun but if only it sat correctly on the rails and I like the fact I wasn't the only one with the same problem.

The shields are smoke deflectors which creates vision for the driver when steam builds up in front in cold weather

Quote from Wikipedia: The original English buffers were the same on each side, so that there was a small tendency for buffers to slide off each other. German railway buffers are flat on one side and convex on the other to reduce this tendency to slide off. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffer_(rail_transport)

The device you referred to as a water pump is actually the air compressor. If you can find them, get some MTVlenses for the lights, this kit deserves them. Try to find several flatbed wagons load them with Panders headed for the Eastern Front. That would look really great. Don't forget the brake van. Just an idea.

Far too fiddly for me I am afraid, but yo did a great job on it, well done mate. Such a shame about the sand pipes, stupid idea making them out of rubber!! I am looking forward to seeing you paint this Lovely Loco!! Have fun with your next build, Joe

If you trust Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffer_(rail_transport) here is the theory for the asymmetrical buffer faces: with the consistent left side/right side mounting among all rolling stock, convex faces will push against buffers with flat faces. Flat faces would not rest flat against each other on curves and convex faces would tend to slide off of each other. When mis-matched, a convex buffer always has a flat surface to push against. I was not aware of this subtlety until you mentioned it in your presentation (3:35) - well done!

I just bought the 'Panzerlok BR57', it has less parts than this one because boiler and other stuff is totally encased in armor plating so they left it out of the model...just and empty shell which is OK because you can´t see the inside.

I prefer the DRG class 45, but no model kits of that one. It would be cool if a company made a model of the DRG 53 0001 2-6-8-0 mallet kriegslokomotive.

But this was just a concept for a more powerfull locomotive during WW II, which was never realized in practice! If you would, you can call it just a fantasy!
