ROFL "mediocre modeller" ...superb retort by way of self-deprecating 'got the t-shirt' humour Andy. Well played. Been a viewer of yours since you started. If ever there was a plastics modeller who could "walk with Kings - yet not lose the common touch" (to paraphrase Kipling), it's you. Love your enthusiasm, admire your communication skills and the immense editing effort and thought you put into sharing it all with us on your channel. A very well deserved two thumbs up!

Great chat and live vid Andy! Just keep spreading the positive vibes about our fantastic hobby! We need more guys like you, Phil Flory and others. You are super important for the hobby since You de-mystifies what can seem as a djungle if your a new or maybe re-starting. With todays kits, tools, aux products, tutorials etc the bar of what people can achieve has been raised a lot. I think this also can be a bit deterring for people that are thinking of starting. Guys like You are defusing that and its so important that we always help each other to remember WHY we do this...because its FUN!! And we all set our own individual limits and goals. Lets respect that and each other. Thanks and keep up the great work!!

Hey Andy keep these livestreams coming. It's really nice to hear your opinion on everything about modelling, but also the more personal details about you and your model shop. I completely agree with what you said about the need for more positivity in the hobby. I'm from Czech Republic and all the scale modelling forums are filled with grumpy old men who have all been modelling for 30 years and every time someone new shows up and asks about literally anything, or god forbid, posts one of his own models, he gets completely torn to shreds in the comments by these people. That's why I've never posted a single picture of one of my own models online and never intend to do so. The defence these guys use when you point out how hostile they are is that if they don't critique, then the modeller will not improve. But I feel like with this kind of critique the modeller will be just about ready to go seek help from a psychiatrist. Your positive approach is something really nice to see and hopefully people will take it to heart. Good luck on your future builds!

You're not a mediocre modeler, just basic and to the point. It was enough to get me to buy an airbrush and get to building models again. I use many of the methods you teach.

love your Q&A live chats and the hell with the thumbs downers. you are my inspiration for model building. I am 70, retired and just getting my work area set up for airbrushing but first have to build models. my passion is TANKS but those models with 500+ pieces are brutal, especially those itsy-bitsy super tiny pieces. and when they fly off my tweezers and I can't find them, they don't get applied. you suggested Tamiya as more friendly and I have one on order just to try. right now working on a Revell larger plane for practice. Thanks for all your instructional vids. keep 'em coming. Cheers from Canada

Andy Alex here putting this comment in a little late but I'm so glad you touched on being friendly with other modelers I've had bad experiences going into stores and people not giving me good information telling me that I'm the model or figure it out I think that's so good that you're preaching that we share all of our thoughts and our ideas and all become better modelers
@vallee19857 жыл бұрын
Damn i missed the Q&A :( I don`t know if you will answer questions here. What do you thing about Dragon? A lot of Modelers (not me... i m still fairly new to the Hobby) try to sabotage Dragon. 10 or so years ago you used to get all that extra stuff: Metal Barrel, Magic Tracks etc and they were fairly cheap. Fast forward to today. They are really expensive and they cut almost any extra. What do you think about that ?? Me personally love Dragon. I love the detail that Models have and i m a big big fan of the Box Art (lucky me. Ron Volstad lives in Edmonton and is part of my local Hobby club) That last part is so so true. Specially when people say something along the lines: "But that was not real and you doing it wrong!!" I just shake my head. If i wanna paint my Model pink, that is my own decision and if i like it, that is the most important part.

I'd love to see a video showing how you break down and clean your Iwata HP-CS airbrush. There are very few, if any, decent videos showing this. A really good, step by step video for airbrushing noobs like me, would be very useful!!!

Lots of kits yes, local stores - not so much. I live in a large city, but hobbytownusa just closed up, and the only store is far from me, far off the beaten path, and limited plastic models, its mostly RC cars and planes. Andy, until I found you and Plasmo, etc on youtube I thought plastic was dead.

Hello you ole mediocre modeler!! You are an inspiration for me as I'm a 75 year young retired Navy Senior Chief that likes to build models out of the box. I have watched nearly every one of you builds and mediocre your not. Concur with your comments about negative remarks from other modellers. I have asked questions in the past on other web sites about building or finishing a model and actually received more negative feedback than positive. Keep up then mediocre builds as I follow your suggestions.

Hey Andy, missed the live stream, but hopefully I'll catch it next time. I do have a question though, do you have in your shop a 1/48 OA-4M from Monogram, if so how much does it cost? I've been trying to find one but, being stationed overseas, it's fairly difficult to find one at a fair price.
