Hi David. I so agree with you. That initial “mouth feel” does determine whether a beer gives 100% satisfaction. “Limp and watery” is oh too prevalent and definitely not what you want in a stout. Excellent review sir. 👏👏👍😀🍺

Used to love wychwood ruby bitter but since theyve reduced the abv and its been taken over by martsons/carlsberg not anymore😢 Great video and good review mate.
@thecelt6929Ай бұрын
Indeed. When they reduce the abv it's an entirely different brew. Rubbish. Not worth buying any more.

Such a shame, 4.1%, Carlsberg/Marston.
@TheCiderDrinkerАй бұрын
I've not touched a Wychwood beer for years, mainly because there's so many better beers out there. Shame really, as Hobgoblin was my go to beer back in the day!
@ivehadworse7713Ай бұрын
@@TheCiderDrinker same for me, it’s stood out from the crowd. It’s the curse of the popularity, a brewery with a signature beer becomes popular and a macro then offers to buy it, or buys the entire brewery, and then moves production which often changes the taste, and then drops the abv to pay less tax and protect their bottom line.

Not stout fan but do drink Hobgoblin, Gold, Session, and Ruby. I also like that they have done a change to the Hobgoblin graphic’s and colourised them. I suppose as a nod to past before Marstons got hold of it. Sadly I never had Hobgoblin back then

Wychwood was always more of a marketing company than a brewery

I'm always positive David & Madam Director so hope I will never be blocked. Probably in the minority but I still love Wychwood beers now brewed by Carlsberg/Marstons. In a blind test wonder if the beer snobs could tell the difference? Keep up the good work!
@ivehadworse7713Ай бұрын
@@billclark2253 you are always most welcome. Hobgoblin (ruby) is till decent, as well as gold and king goblin, but the rest of the range isn’t great….in yay humble opinion. It’s interesting that hobgoblin ruby comes in a number of abv’s , the bottle used to be 5.2 , and 4.5 in can and on tap. I might do a blind taste can v bottle.
@fasteddierules8130Ай бұрын
I did think it looked a bit like coca cola as it was poured and the fizz kind of added to that impression, so not surprised by the mouth feel description. Not that I really know what I'm on about because the joy of drinking stout in any form is a total mystery to me. I'd rather eat raw gravy granules.

I love a decent stout or porter, Hobgoblin isnt one of them. Fullers porter one of my favourites and even a Brewdog Black Heart is pretty good. What you have there is coloured water and marketing. I love a strong tasting dark beer and must confess to enjoying Badgers Coffee Stout.
@ivehadworse7713Ай бұрын
Badger can produce some good beers, and their coffee stout is one of them. Interestingly hall and Woodhouse, who own badger brewery, produce Aldi’s coffee stout, side by side the Aldi has a slightly higher abv, in my blind taste test Aldi was better.
@lukestanton-deeley879Ай бұрын
mouth feel is hugely important, watery feeling beer is a definite no go, hobgoblin definitely aren't the best, I don't mind their strong Ruby ale but I've bought it once and never again, my local shop sells adnams broadside which is far better
@Cayres9Ай бұрын
Too expensive too as Black Heart by Brewdog is only £1.80p a can and is as good as Guinness in my opinion , Hobgoblin is hit and miss , The Gold versions the only one i like but why do they have to make it taste so skunky ? I dont like Skunk LOL

People are so odd with their negativity. Remember when you mentioned that Madam Director had been trolled on these videos. Such odd behaviour

You need to spend more for the sort of mouth feel you're talking about.
