@@robertjamesonmusic In the long run yes, but I still think its too soon. By forgoing their entire brand identity and rebranding to whatever this is... especially in such a saturated market, only time will tell if they will come out alive. Pure EV brands aside from Tesla and BYD (entirely supported by the Chinese market), the newcomers aren't doing nearly as well. Like Lucid, polestar, and Rivian make great cars, I've driven them and they were fantastic but unfortunately their sales are abismal which makes me hesitant to seriously consider them as Im worried about long term service viability.

"Chasing customers" that's the inherent problem. If you build a proper car the customers will chase you.

You didn’t even watch the video, did you? That’s exactly what they were saying. They’ve been trying to build proper cars for the last couple years and it hasn’t been working for them so they’re going back to what they know best; low volume, high price cars.
@housepianist
@housepianist 20 минут бұрын
Your comment is rather generic because car companies all build their versions of “proper” cars. There is no centralized definition of what a proper car is. The main problem is that there’s a lot of competition all vying for the same results and they all build “proper” cars. Customers have many choices and it’s a matter of what appeals to them and the price. For example, Honda can build a proper vehicle but if Toyota also builds a proper vehicle AND it’s less expensive, guess what the customer will buy. They all chase customers because that’s the market - too many players chasing too few customers.

All these people criticizing Jaguar were not buying their cars anyway. If they care about Jaguar's legacy, why do they buy BMWs over Jags every time. And now suddenly Jag's rebrand is offending them. Companies are not celebrities who want to be loved by everyone. If people don't buy their product, they will re-brand and sell it to a new customer segment.

Jag have said this will not go into production. The look of the car was bad enough, but coupled with THAT ad it’s turned into a disaster. First impressions/opinions are SO important, and your’re gonna find it hard to find any positive reactions. I hope Jaguar survives for the sake of all of the workers who have been there for years, but I have a bad feeling this will be the final nail in the coffin. But all the execs who caused this will I’m sure just bury their heads in the sand, get generous payoffs and just walk into another exec job with another company.

Jaguar had to do something that's for sure. Lots of people love the brand, but not enough were actually buying the cars. The concept is a bold car with presence imo... and as we know, the actual production car will be in this style, but probably significantly different. It even occurred to me that maybe Jaguar would have a follow up campaign where this new aggressive car blows away the oddball teletubbies in a ballsy " We were just kidding" moment. I think if it was preceded by a better campaign, more people would have been open to liking this car.... it is a powerful car with presence. I'm sure that a proper leaper and growler will be offered as option, that's what I would put on the car. A 1,000 hp car deserves a growler in front! Hopefully too they offer a cool two door GT. I am certainly rooting for them. It does all make me appreciate my beautiful XK 5.0, as it's now a part of Jag history. It's funny as the lead up campaign was hardly pointing to a powerful, stunning and brutal car. When I first saw the rebranding video I thought, "Well, Bond villains won't be driving Jags anymore" ..... but a Bond villain would definitely drive this, although in blue or black not the pink.... lol. Imo, the teletubbies would never drive this car.

Jaguar feels like a British Maserati. It could not survive on its own, and will not survive on its own, but may live on as a niche brand in a corporate portfolio. The problem is the high-end low-volume market is so saturated with brands, but has a small customer base. I don't think Jaguar will become a cash positive brand, but maybe they can at least limit losses by reducing volume and glossing it up.

I just can't see Jaguar competing in the luxury sector against its more well established rivals. At the high end you've got Rolls and Bentley, and I don't think think they're going to succeed making a cut price imitator to those. But even at the $120,000 price point you've got reasonably well specced EV's coming out from Audi, BMW and Mercedes. In the end I wonder, who is this car (or whatever makes it to production) for? Who is the target customer for this new Jaguar brand and why would they buy one of its cars over a rivals?

What is a luxury car? Unique styling(moving art) performance, comfort, quiet, sport suspension/handling, and smooth transmission. EV’s are very quiet as they must with no engine to hide many noises. EV’s are smooth as only one speed box. That instant torque from 0 rpm can not be equaled with a gas car that needs rev’s, a gearbox to stay in the rev range, and horsepower at higher rpm. EV’s give you both horsepower and torque from the beginning. No waiting like gas cars as so many moving parts must be engaged before the car responds. Glad so many going EV route. People are tired of our noisy environment. I was a gear head early in my life, wearing hearing aids now. I will never go back to a gas car. I love car summon on my Tesla. FSD is a game changer if moved to a new city. Nice having the car warmed or cooled as it pulls up at a restaurant or shop

Fitting in a niche between the very high cost luxury brands and the European sports/luxury brands is their natural place. Where they have failed is making that work economically through various owners and when they tried for volume to compete with BMW and Mercedes. I’m not sure about the concept, and I am sure a fair bit will change by the time the production version hits, but they’ve attracted a lot of attention!

UK and EU have a deadline of 2035 for sale of ICE car engines - Jaguar can't continue with their classic approach, because it depended on their mechanical uniqueness - and selling a "premium" EV is not going to be easy.

I have owned a few exotics like Lambo, Aston Martin, and Maserati. I am hooked on Tesla’s now although still have a rarely used Porsche Panamera. Tesla is a no service car. Fill up at home. Only maintenance tires and windshield wiper fluid. Owning serval Tesla’s none have gone to a service center. Everythings an update like an iPhone. The torque and horsepower are instant. Exotics are work of art but they lost horsepower war. I enjoy FSD also. It’s amazing. Tesla handling is engaging enough. We must continue EV’s otherwise every car will be Chinese. 300 mile range and more stations. Battery tech improving everyday. The future is ridesharing, robotaxis, and uber. More greenbelts instead of parking lots. Most people will not be able to afford a car in the future.

Even in the days of e types and mk2 jags, the cars wernt expensive compared to brands like Bentley and aston martin. They were posh cars but built to a price and thats why they sold so well. Jaguar as we know it is over. They may sell a few cars to the super rich but as they have gone ev only, i will have to stick to my old jags.

Yes, I get what you mean. However, Jaguar always offered a high end RR like experience, but at way lower cost and more sporting pedigree. It’s never a huge market, but that’s where they naturally sit. Not volume and competing with BMW/Mercedes. That’s never worked for them. So maybe they are just accepting their niche place and Tata is happy with that amongst their many, many businesses
