FROM PHENIX:
The anticipation and long wait are finally over. From the industry’s #1 ultra light rod manufacturer comes the Phenix “Classic BFS” rod series! Bait Finesse System (BFS) is a Japanese form of light line; light lure fishing for heavily pressured fisheries. The Classic BFS is built on a proprietary 36T Toray Carbon Fiber blank with a solid Carbon Tip section. This, combined with the Extra Fast action, leads to the most sensitive BFS rods on the market. Utilizing Fuji Micro Guides with Alconite inserts, a proprietary complete contact reel seat on the casting versions, and a Fuji VSS reel seat on the spinning versions, with quality Portuguese Cork grips, lends to a very JDM look and feel. Casting light lures from 3/32-1/4oz, or .88-7.39 grams on a 4-10lb line, has never been easier with the backbone to pull in larger-sized fish. Whether it’s trophy bass or trout, in heavily pressured waters where light line and small lures are necessary for success, go armed for battle with a Classic BFS rod.
FROM CASHION:
The CR6r BFS blanks are designed with a fast-action blank, which is different from most BFS rods that offer a moderate-fast action. The fast-action blank allows the blank to load near the tip, which provides more accurate casting and allows your bait to stay in the strike zone longer. In addition, the fast action provides more power higher up the blank, which is needed for light power blanks to control and help play fish.
CR6r Blank Material Science:
Cashion Carbon Fiber fishing rod blanks are designed and manufactured in Sanford, NC. Cashion stands for American-Made, Material Science Technology, and the Craftsmen to build detailed-oriented carbon fiber fishing rod blanks. Cashion is obsessed with attention to detail and especially at the molecular level. Cashion carbon blank design has focused at the molecular level to utilize epoxies that excel at encapsulating and physically bonding to high performance carbon fiber.
● American-made blank and American sourced carbon fiber pre-preg
● Raw Finish CR6r blank for extreme sensitivity and durability
● Advanced Interface Bonding (AIB) - AIB is a combination of mechanical and additive technology to create ultra high bond strength at the interface of carbon fiber and epoxy matrix
● Proprietary Weight Reduction (PWR) Engineering - Novel reinforcing strategy to increase hoop strength but limit weight increase
● High Tg Epoxy (HTE) formulation with AIB - Novel epoxy with impressive mechanical properties and high modulus for increased blank sensitivity
ICON BFS Casting Rod Features:
● Specially engineered blank for finesse fishing with a baitcaster
● Fast action blank which provides fast responsive the blank for casting and reaction
● Handmade carbon fiber / fiberglass grip for a secure, durable, and dense grip to transmit even the most faint vibrations
● Micro guides for enhanced casting distance and increased accuracy
● Blank through reel seat design with direct blank contact for added sensitivity
● Ergonomic reel seat for all day casting comfort
● Best hook keeper design on the market. Engineered placement of hook keeper for fast lure hook up and removal
FROM DOBYNS:
The Sierra Ultra Finesse or BFS casting rods are a new addition for 2021. This series was built strictly due to angler request and the growing popularity. Ultra-Light bass fishing has become very popular over the last few years and we have heard from our anglers to bring back an Ultra-Light Finesse casting rod designed to throw baits as light as 1/16th oz (1.5g) and using 2-8lb line to target bass, panfish, crappie and trout..
These models will be in lengths of 7′ and 7’4″ and will be one-piece models. These rods are very small in diameter and super lightweight. Be on the lookout for these at a Dobyns dealer this fall.
FEATURES:
High modulus graphite blanks
Fuji Micro guides
Fuji reel seats
Kevlar wrapping
Balanced and splined blanks
Portugal cork - Split handle designs
Solid carbon tip sections

I bought the 7'1" Phenix paired with the Shimano Curado and absolutely love it. I have caught up to a 3lb smallmouth on it and those power dives are a riot on this rod. 6lb fluoro and i must say I use this more than my other rods. I haven't really docked fish with it and it is amazing how many varieties of fish you catch by using small crankbaits. One morning smallmouth, largemouth, rock bass, silver bass, walleye, pike, perch and bluegill. I agree the sensitivity is crazy on this rod!! Appreciate the videos!

Let me tell ya one rod no one talks about but should is the legit design wild side rods. I have the wild side 6'4L bfs rod and its my favorite rod in the "L" power arena. Very sensitive has a beautiful bend stiff yet very flexible the whole rod will bend to play the fish and I just love fishing it. @@HobieWanKenobiyea I also have the 6'4xh big bait special finesse rod and the 69mh frog rod and that frog rod with a moderate slow taper is still plenty sensitive and has the brass to also fish Texas rigs and weedless what nots. IMO probably the most versatile MH rod on the market. Each different model in the wild side line up has its own individual custom features which are optimized for specific techniques and different weight ranges. I'm so glad I stumbled upon those rods...as you know jdm sites provide a friendly price plus shipping but tackle warehouse carries quite a few legit design rods although they don't carry the 6'4L bait finesse rod. @@HobieWanKenobione thing, there are other rods that will throw a true 1/16oz lure better than that 6'4L wild side rod it's rated down to 1/16oz and will throw it but it really shines from like 2.5g to 12.

1/16oz total weight is quite small if factoring in the weight of the jig/hook and plastic. It's tough to find a rod that can truly cast its lower range without forcing the rod.

Great Video!!! I am really curious about the ML (~1/8-1/2oz) range of casting rods and what reels to pair with them. This range seems to be the bridge between the BFS and standard bait casting gear. I already have a ML spinning setup, but would like an ML baitcasting set up. There are a number of BFS rods AND standard baitcasting rods offered in this range (1/8-1/2oz). What exactly is the difference? The only thing I can think of (other than marketing) is that the BFS rods often have micro guides. At what line size and lure weight does a BFS specific rod and reel make sense, and why? If one is in the grey area of line and lure weight/size, what factors should sway you towards a BFS and non-BFS rod/reel. I live in the Chesapeake Bay area and do a mixture of inshore and freshwater fishing, so I need a versatile ML casting setup. Any thoughts about rod and reel selection for a ML casting setup? Thanks so much for the great content!
@HobieWanKenobi
@HobieWanKenobi Ай бұрын
I think recent additions to BFS is a lot of marketing. There are quite a few ML rods out there that arent BFS rods that do quite well for finesse fishing. BFS reels definitely will help take advantage of the ML rid for all it can. Line capacity is is biggest factor with BFS reels. If the reel can hold enough line and you are casting 3/8oz and below, BFS reels will help. Most inshore anglers use braid anyway so, factor that into the line capacity for a BFS reel. Most BFS reels hold 50m of 8lb mono for your reference. There are saltwater BFS reels such as the Shimano SLX BFS and the Daiwa Gekabijin AIR TW. Cashion has an inshore BFS rod I havent used.

@HobieWanKenobi 11 ай бұрын
AliExpress rods can be decent, kind of a gamble. These rods will generally have more backbone.

The Alleo seems pretty special so far. I need to get into more fish though. Only shore fished with it

@@HobieWanKenobi Thanks for the info. I only shore fish down in Florida when I am over from the UK. Buying the Triza range so I can travel with them without having to keep 2 sperate sets of tackle in each country. Really looking forward to your on the water review.

What would you use a 7’4 phenix bfs rod for?
@walden6272
@walden6272 2 ай бұрын
I would use it for pier fishing. The extra length would be nice on the pier and imagine fighting a 7 lb fish on it.

The extra length would indeed help with pier fishing or in open water.

Surprisingly you don't review the Shimano 64LB BFS rod on your channel, plus you can't say that you only cover gears that is made in America, because some of your stuff/gears is mostly JDM too
@HobieWanKenobi
@HobieWanKenobi Жыл бұрын
These 3 rods are available in the USA, that and price range is why I compared them. I have a few JDM BFS Bass rods but, haven't got around to reviewing them yet. I also have to be mindful that I have WAY too many BFS rods as it is. Every review takes me getting another rod.

It's really tough to get that "it factor" rod without having it in hand. I been burned more times I can count gambling on buying a rod from the Internet.

Most BFS rods are way too light for bass IMO. Just a regular light or ML are what I use.
@HobieWanKenobi

It's because many people hype up casting tiny lures with BFS. It's a method of BFS fishing. Using finesse bass lures requiring a more stout finesse rod is another method. Just need to find a rod to fit your needs instead of falling into the hype

True, I only bfs in small creeks and streams where no bass exists therfore don't have worry about the rod being to soft. I mainly use jdm rods that have lighter bend than the rods made in the states for BFS fishing.
