I’d like to see a video about lure selection based on the conditions you see. As an example, if I’m at a pond and it’s overcast with clear water? What colors and lure selection would you make? I have a Curado BFS with a Teton TTC602LS.
@HobieWanKenobi
@HobieWanKenobi 2 жыл бұрын
@@johangermishuys308 That's a good idea. The funny thing about that is the fact that everyone has their own thoughts on what lure selection is best for certain conditions. I find it more so as confidence due to coincidence rather than some scientific process to lure selection. I have my thoughts of "what works" that I can share.

This is a great video, and it makes the concept of BFS shine brightly. In my fly fishing days I was very snobbish about bait and spin casters not being "real trout fisherman". I passed up many a stream like the one in this video because they were next to impossible to flyfish. BFS changes that, and I'm glad you're showcasing the sport.
@HobieWanKenobi

Glad it was helpful! These areas are tough, even with a BFS reel. BFS makes it easier for sure. Wait until you see the next video...couple hefty brook trout in really thick cover.

Thanks a lot man . Finally I have found some one explaining those techniques. I have several small trout streams near Bogota Colombia and having a new BFS equipment, needed to see this first. I tough I was sucking at this but now at least I know what to practice. Thanks a lot 👍👍👍

I realize it's not bfs but I have done extremely well fishing the gnarly difficult to fish and impossible to cast to areas of mountain native brook trout streams with a long 7-9 foot ultralight jigging rod and a micro jig. Just finding an opening in the brush pile where I can lower the jig and give it a couple of twitches and I have hooked some very large brookies and managed to land more than I had any right to considering my precarious position usually standing on some unstable log pile or slick rocks.
@HobieWanKenobi
@HobieWanKenobi 5 ай бұрын
Thanks awesome. As long as you are catching fish, who cares what the tackle is? That longer rod will cushion the strike a bot too, allowing for better hooksets.

Glad I could help! I realized I didn't really go over HOW to pitch to much in this video. I have some BFS casting tutorial videos I thought covered it but, not in detail. Whenever this winter polar vortex is done, I will make a video deliberately to go over how to pitch.

Good to see BFS being used like it is supposed to. The cringe is real with lots of other people making BFS videos, getting all hype over how light of a lure they cast.
@HobieWanKenobi
@HobieWanKenobi 2 жыл бұрын
Everyone uses their fishing tackle however is best for them. I think hype content has its purpose. It can bring more awareness to topics vs "boring" content like mine. Also, when creators place a high value making money making content and have aspirations for videos to pay their bills, they have to be more pushy with content.

Have you tested the new Daiwa 22 Tatula SV TW 70 yet? This is the new smallest Tutula version with a very small 30mm diameter spool. It's not a BFS but even handles smaller lures. I wonder if it is possible to fit a shallow spool already existing on the secondary market to this reel..

Original Comment In English: (Hello and thank you for this video. On this type of fishing at very short distance can you tell me if the action of the rod should be parabolic or fast?? ... Thank you for your answer .. Sincerely , Alain from France......... Happy Christmas to you and your loved ones.) (French Response: Bonne question Alain. Good question Alain. I was experimenting with different type of rods doing this. The rod I used in the video was a light powered carbon rod with a fast action. The rod on the side of my backpack was a parabolic fiberglass rod. The fast action was better to turn the fish out of wood. I felt I did lose a couple fish because there was not enough cushion. The fiberglass rod had a more difficult time steering fish and also getting a really fast hookset. The differences were small. I am still experimenting and I feel it is user preference, much like bass fishing in heavy cover.

@HobieWanKenobi
@HobieWanKenobi Жыл бұрын
I was seeing if the faster action was better for controlling the fish. I used the glass rod off camera. Pitching was slightly better with the carbon rod and the control of the fish in tight quarters was better too. Small but noticeable differences.
@AT-eq8kc
@AT-eq8kc Жыл бұрын
@@HobieWanKenobi Thank you for the insight. I am really loving that glass rod for small stream work, but am starting to see scenarios where tighter action of the lure particularly in deeper/faster water needed a stiffer rod...I had not thought of the pitching angle as I do not pitch much yet.
