I just (in October) spent 9 days in beautiful Northern Italy solo (Como, Milan, Pordenone, and Trieste with day trips to Venice and the Dolomites). I tracked my costs. I can never do as well as you two, but here is what I spent for comparison in case anyone is interested: Hotels $973 ($108/day) Decent, local-owned and family-run hotels Dining $204 ($23/ day) - Non-Drinker, but I ate well about 1 - 2 meals/day. I love Italian food! Groceries $34 ($4/Day) Trains/Busses $116 ($13/day) (excluding one long train ride from Milan to Pordenone, which I had a pass for) Telephone - I keep my USA phone (TMobile) and boost it for International coverage while abroad. This all prorates to $30 for 9 days or $3/day. Total in Northern Italy for 9 days: $1,357 or $151/day. Beautiful country! Beautiful people!

Wow, sounds like you had an amazing solo adventure in Northern Italy! Those destinations-Como, Milan, Trieste, and the Dolomites-are all so stunning, and it looks like you managed your budget really well! It's great to see your breakdown; thanks for sharing it! Every travel style is unique, and you definitely experienced the beauty of Italy in a meaningful way. Totally agree-Italy is such a beautiful country with wonderful people. Cheers to many more adventures!

We plan on retiring in Italy because the cost of living is so much less than it is in the US. We can’t wait to get there! We’ve decided to document the journey. We’re having so much fun learning about the different regions. Thank you for sharing this! It helps us a lot!

Seems very reasonable for a 17 day journey in Italy .The pizza looked amazing! The best pizza I ever had was in Zürich. Switzerland at an Italian pizzeria, we went back three out of five nights to enjoy the amazing pizza and peroni beer Safe travels.

I didn't see the cost of groceries. Since the total was $2,648, and everything else totaled $2,402, I figure the groceries were $246? Is that right? As a solo traveler, everything but the accommodations can be cut in half, and I am guessing 75% of the cost of transportation (taxis are the same, but ferries are per person). All together, then, I am guessing $2,037 for a solo traveler. By the way, back in 1989 I got scammed in Brindisi. It still bothers me....

Is it comfortable and scenic to visit these cities in December?
@HoboVentures
@HoboVentures 2 ай бұрын
December can be a lovely time to visit Bari, Monopoli, Polignano, Alberobello, Lecce, and Brindisi! The weather is generally mild, with average daytime temperatures around 10-15°C (50-59°F), though evenings can feel quite chilly, especially with coastal winds. In terms of scenic beauty, the towns are less crowded than during peak tourist months, allowing for a more intimate experience, especially in picturesque towns like Polignano a Mare, where you can enjoy the dramatic cliffs and views without the high season crowds. Alberobello's trulli houses look especially charming in winter, and there may even be Christmas markets that add to the charm. Just be aware that in smaller towns like Monopoli, some restaurants and shops may have limited hours in the off-season, but larger cities like Bari and Lecce will still have plenty open.

For geography purposes. Rome and south of Rome is considered the south. The whole country is a peninsula shaped like a boot but not referred to as a boot.Tne north generally is any part north of Rome so anything above that is considered the northern part of Italy. Italians do not refer to their country as a boot the south of Italy will do when referring to the South so Barry is not so Bari is not north of the boot it's just in the Adriatic side in the south. Tapas I believe is Spanish for their dishes Italians refer to theirs as Piatti first plate second plate

Thanks for the comment! 😊 We're actually taking a short break from our Eastern Europe trip before continuing our travels in Europe. Right now, we're sharing some of our Italy travel costs to give everyone an idea of what to expect there. We've just wrapped up an amazing 6-month journey through Europe, Western Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Balkans, so stay tuned for more reports on those destinations too.
