I go from Thailand and Philippines 3x a year. Over tourism in thailand has really crushed the situation! Legal weed, Southeast asian vibes, the buddhist culture, and new infrastructure are a plus. Philippines really gives you the authentic feel and really embraces you as one of their own, which is the major difference. I prefer splitting my time.

Hi guys. My wife and I are back in our condo in San Fernando, Pampanga for about a month and a half now and I'm absolutely loving it here. To me the main draw to the Philippines other than my wife being from here is that almost everyone can understand and speak English. To someone like me that's extremely important anyplace that I decided to settle. The other thing that makes San Fernando perfect for me is that Pampanga has the best variety of excellent food in the Philippines. 😊

I just remembered one huge difference > Noise in the Philippines is over the top. The all night karaoke barely stops when the roosters start crowing. Unless you are living in well to do areas the houses are built with an opening for ventilation between the top of the walls and the rooves so no way to keep the noise at bay. And because the noise of a neighbor is loud, in next person's place they will crank up the volume to drown out the others.

I have lived in the Philippines and worked in Thailand offshore in the gulf of Thailand. Last time I was there of course Atwood Oceanics gave me a first-class hotel room and a Mercedes S-class rental car. I was driving to the dock in Rayon to get on the boat which took us to our job and a motorcycle driver run in to the back of the Mercedes. In Thailand, if there is an accident and you are farang (white foreigner) it is automatically your fault. My company had to pay for this motorcycle driver's accident for injuries he got by running into the back of me. In Thailand hire a driver or this could happen to you.

Hi Qiang and Dan! Part 2: I moved to Bangkok, Thailand from the San Francisco Bay Area in 2017. I've also just finished building a house in the Thai Isaan countryside. I really want for nothing here in Bangkok vs San Francisco. The details of life are different but the quality and variety of life in Bangkok is equal. There are noticeably fewer options in the non-tourist countryside. San Francisco is a food mecca and Bangkok ranks well in fine dining but who wants fine dining when the cheaper food is so delicious. You have to search a little harder for western food in the countryside but it is there and often surprisingly good. Tourist destinations in Thailand were indeed very crowded. What a relief during Covid though it was a disaster for local business. Thailand is definitely busier now. In general Thailand is gender tolerant but there is still career barriers for LGBQ people.Thailand is indeed a future oriented country. Yup, no natural disaster events here except the 2004 tsunami which seems like a one time event. The infrastructure here is great. I bought a car this year but I've been driving around Thailand for years and the roads are great. Yes, the health care here is inexpensive and excellent. I've had good care in the countryside as well for minor incidents. As for personality, I love to explore new places. I did during my working life on business trips and now as a retiree in Thailand. I have no reluctance going out alone to explore. I'm fine with being alone but I really enjoy meeting up with fellow expats about once a week.

Thailand and the Philippines are geographically and weather-wise very similar. The two countries share a wealth of natural resources, including pristine beaches and stunning islands. With a total of 7,641 islands, the Philippines is classified as an archipelago state. If visitors want to visit multiple islands, they can find flights that connect to smaller airports all over the Philippines. Traveling by boat is another option for visiting many of the region's islands. If they are in a major city, "jeepneys"-small and colorful buses-are a popular mode of transportation. While Thailand has fewer islands than the Philippines, getting from the mainland to the islands takes less distance and time. A minibus or renting a motorcycle is the preferred mode of transportation for tourists within cities. When compared to local Thais, the majority of local Filipinos speak English fairly well, but you'll have no trouble when visiting Thailand's major tourist areas since they can use English pretty well too.

And its a business you cannot a marriage without dowry.

Thank you. Lots of good information. If I may inquire, where in the Philippines have you two settled? I have spent quite a bit of time on Koh Phangan, Thailand. Some of your comments increase my desire to explore the Philippines. One obvious thing you may not have mentioned is that Thailand borders on several different countries. So if you want to do some easy traveling and explore some similar but different cultures it's rather easy. Philippines, being many islands is just a bit more work. But perhaps the different islands have enough differences so you might feel you are having some variety? Thanks again...
@kellytobey51792 жыл бұрын
Well done on both parts 1 & 2! I have spent time in both countries and would agree with everything you said with one exception. If you get out of the cities in Philippines in many places the roads are terrible compared to Thailand where even in remote areas there are decent roads. Those with bad backs beware in Philippines especially do not sit near the back of vehicles were all the bumps are leveraged, so worse than in front. I too eat vegetarian and outside of the bigger cities found it extremally difficult to find healthy veg food to cover all the food groups. As you mentioned be prepared to cook but that means renting facilities that will cost more when travelling.

You can travel in Thailand all year round because Thailand has 2 Oceans and does not have a typhoon, maybe a typhoon once in 10 years, which is considered very rare. Thailand's HDI is 0.80 is Very High and the GDP per capital of 8,000 Us per Year is considered a relatively high middle income. Thailand's property crime problem is relatively low. You can easily travel to the mainland of Asia or visit the surrounding countries by land. and air in a short period of time There are products and services from around the world. There are many restaurants along the way and every time. 7 Eleven has the second largest number in the world after Japan with more than 13,000 stores, but the size of the store is larger than Japan. There are nearly 50 JCI standard hospitals from the United States in ASEAN and 1 in 3 of Asia's medical hubs, namely Thailand, South Korea and Singapore. Then Thailand is the capital of Digital Nomad. Because there are many cities in the order such as Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Phuket, Pattaya and Samui. And the speed internet in Thailand is quite fast, ranked in the top of the world. high stability And the service price is not very expensive.

Outstanding! This is probably the best comparison I've seen between the Philippines and Thailand. I'd love to see a breakdown like this for Malaysia and Vietnam two countries that are on my list to visit. One last question. What smaller towns in each country do you like best? I've heard Krabi and the islands south of it are nice. P.S. Qiang is a food expert, I wish I could eat all the food she does and stay so thin.

I agree Philippines is not better as far as convenience of food but I was in Northern Thailand there was a town of about several thousand people 15 minutes away but I was in a village you have houses with stores in them just like the Philippines but there was more houses with stores in them to get beer or whatever. As far as food eating out you'd have to ride 15 minutes into town and I think there's KFC there but I don't think there was a McDonald's or anything like that there was a few pizza places too. Also I'm still confused about hamburger I could not find hamburger meat in the grocery store in Thailand. The area I was in that said that it was burgers was actually pork or chicken it wasn't actual hamburger meat so that kind of threw me off

Thailand has 2 oceans, the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. You can travel to Thailand all year round because you can switch sides if the rainy season occurs. And Thailand does not have typhoons. Maybe once every 10 years. Most of Thailand's sea water is probably turquoise. The Philippines will be light blue.

Hi, Qiang & Dan I enjoyed your video. It was a well-balanced comparison of both countries. It all depends on what you are looking for if it be a wife I think the Philippines but for a party has to be Thailand. I know you can party in the Philippines but in comparison to say Bangkok, walking streets of Pattaya there is no way can anyone match them. Long term I think you can find what you want in either country. What attracts most to the Philippines is many speak English. Take care GOD Bless you and yours.

That was a very comprehensive report, good work. The tag team reporting is fun too. Only two comments. Being noticed: Yeah, I feel invisible to Thai people when walking around, because they are so used to foreigners, they are not surprised to see another one. In other words, just like living in the US. Versus Vietnam where outside the tourist districts a tall foreigner showing up can cause work to stop! Cost of living: is every retiree's first question but most difficult to answer because of how people _choose_ to live. Pick a number like $1200: I say a person can live on $1200/month _somewhere_ in 90% of neighborhoods in towns or cities in Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, probably Malaysia, not Singapore. It is just a matter of visiting first, finding a lifestyle match, and adjusting. Looking forward to new Malaysia videos (nudge nudge!)

If i had to choose between the two i would pick Thailand for one reason only - national disasters!!! I am still living in a hurricane prone area in the US, and have been, for the last 35 years. And having lived in the same area I can say without any doubt that Climate Change is real!! I have seen the hurricanes get stronger and stronger and a lot more powerful. In the past it did not phase me as it was rare to have one. So I lived peacefully. Not anymore!!! In the last 15 years I have gone through one major one every 2 or 3 years. And when you go through a storm like that it is so disruptive physically and to your psyche! I have had roofs blow off, water damage, always losing all my food in the freezer because of no electricity.( I finally bought a generator last year because it is becoming a regular occurrence -not cheap >$800). The US turns into a third world country or worse after one. It is so depressing to walk outside and see all the destruction every day for months sonetimes. No electricity and sometimes no cellphone service because the cell towns have gone down. Long lines for gas and ice. Everyone is frustrated and in a bad mood. Fights break out everywhere. It is a miserable situation. When someone is young they can take it but when one is older it is very rough. The pharmacies may be closed. There are limited doctors and personal working so it is so tiring. One has to go through it, to really know how devastating it is, even if you don't experience any damage you are constantly reminded of it when you walk out as it takes months for the debris to be cleared. The local news is full of people struggling to survive for months. It will get you depressed very soon and for a long time. You really do not want to experience it. Now I live in perpetual fear of every little storm that is out there churning in the Atlantic during hurricane season. And I read articles of millions who feel the same, they are so fearful now when in the past it didn't concern them as much. I have experienced one 4.5 earthquake and that was scary as hell. I thought I was really going to die as I tried to run out the house. I think the thing that scared me the most was the noise. I had a metal door on the front of the house. And that shook violently making a deafening noise. I remember too I was shaking with fright once outside that I had to sit on the ground as my legs were shaking. I also didn't sleep for weeks as I was afraid the house would collapse on me at any time another hits when I am asleep.(It was one of the major reasons I didn't move to California only I regret now as they paid so well over there I would have retired with triple my retirement income and not be pauper like i am, now.) So, I would seriously advise all those, that they need to seriously keep that in mind when deciding between the two.
