Oh my god that tackle on Walsh was ridiculous. Completely changed the game for the worse. Was really excited about an amazing game but that tackle pretty much ended the game right there. Damn. Hope Walsh is ok. Hopefully the Blues can rally back in game 2 and force a winner take all game 3. Let me know your thoughts on the game. Were the Blues looking decent before the send off? Ok, if you are going to watch State of Origin effectively there is an important piece of information you need: The name of the Queensland colour is pronounced "marone." There is no reason you would know that, because everyone everywhere pronounces as it is spelled. But the original name of the colour was indeed pronounced rhyming with "tone," or "bone." For some reason in this case the pronunciation stayed true to the French origins. When Queensland was established and called Queensland it was named after Queen Victoria. "Maroon," was the royal colour and became Queensland's colour. So you will hear the announcers saying it as I have explained here. It is not a mistake. That is the way that we say it. So while the pronunciation of the colour has drifted, it is so associated to the name of the team that we hold on to that original pronunciation. Queenslander.

It is the stadium that was built for the Sydney 2000 Olympics Sent off means the rest of the game Sin Bin is 10 minutes. So Sua'ali'i endeded the game. Walsh was judged to be a category 1 head injury assessment which is an automatic end of game for him. Even though he passed the assessment, category 2 means minimum 11days before he can return Number 4 is Hamiso "The Hammer" Tabuai-Fidow Light Blue jersey is the game jersey. The dark blue t-shirt is the training t-shirt Maroons have won with 12 men before. But it was not 72 minutes like what happened last night

The origin rivalry exists because up until about 1980, all the best QLD players were signed to NSW clubs out of Sydney and were forced to represent NSW because of the clubs location. Qld players were all blokes who remained in QLD and didn't get a big deal to play down south. It meant that all interstate fixtures were basically pointless and QLD got flogged by their own best players every year. The state of Origin concept allowed people to represent whatever state they grew up playing in. Instead of where they happened to play. As you can imagine, the fact that players put it all on the line for their state and their mates, means these are very hard fought games. Well, QLD wom the first 5 series. NSW have always been playing catchup on the stats head to head in all exceot points scored. Qld are known for coming from behind, and even clean swept a series with second string players in 1995 due to a league wide contract dispute. We had 8 series in a row at one point, and with that away win in Sydney last night, we are now as far ahead head to head as weve ever been statistically. NSW had a few great teams, but theres just something they seem to lack when it comes to organising a representative effort a lot of the time. The marketing has always seemed to reflect an idea of NSW is favourite, big media build up, QLD accepts its underdog status and just goes to work. The pressure on NSW to win seems greater from a few angles.

Given your thorough knowledge can you remember a game when the Blues were up 2 points and instead of going for a try, the Maroons kicked 3 field goals to steal the win with the last one being the golden point? I don't know which game or year it was. I just remember the huge controversy because the Blues were so angry that we didn't play the game "the way it should be played." I think they even tried to kick a field goal themselves but missed. As an AFL fan, i really appreciated the quality of their superior ball skills and thought the game should be more like this to attract AFL fans like myself. That was the night i became a Maroons supporter.

I seee it as weak as piss that he didn't own up to coaching Sua'alii to attack everytime reece had the ball and what's more the team would have seen their coach as a stand up guy, instead they see a coward. A coward that is going to ask things of them, and they are going to know that at the back of their minds that if things go wrong, Maguire isn't going to have their back. He is going to leave them alone, shouldering the smear and blame for the rest of their careers. Man up Maguire like you expect your players, too. By example, man, by example.

The Eels have decided to go back to the same sponsors during their golden period of the 1980s - James Hardie. James Hardie was deeply involved with asbestos up to the late 1980s - most infamous locations include an asbestos products factory in a suburb near Parramatta, called Camellia. For years, Hardie tried not to pay out asbestos victims.

It was a send off for the entire game not just a sinbin which is 10 minutes. Sendoffs are very rare and almost unheard of in an Origin game. Also no a player cannot be replaced when sent off. The reason the captain Jake was questioning the ref's call because sending someone off in Origin is actually insane. The hit deserved a sinbin but a sendoff at 6 minutes in effectively ended the game. The game was pretty much over from that second. You cannot defend 12 on 13 with a permanent overlap at this high level of play. As a NSW fan I was pretty suprised that we kept the score as low as it was.

I'm a blues fan. At first in real time, I thought "WOW" that looked bad. But slowed down, you can see Suaalii had lined-up to hit Reece fair in the chest. However Reece puts a side step in and slips low. I personally felt it should have been a careless hit and worthy of 10 in the bin. But a complete send off? That totally ruined the game for every blues fan! You wait all year to watch Origin and within 2 minutes game 1 is done. You are 100% correct, It could happen so easily to QLD. It ruins the series for everyone involved. If it were are complete dog move and the player involved was clearly trying to inflict injury to the opposition, then I can accept a red card. But when you can see in a replay that it wasn't the case, they need to have some common sense at Origin level.

@@A2thaMFK in okay with red. Only because it sends the message to every player, this shit is not on. And those who say the games soft, it for long term health reasons. We are already seeing our great players suffer from the effects of hia because of concussion from both codes. I see red cards in union alot but thankful, it does not ruin the game, so you can’t blame the loss on a red card because, It’s 20mins only so gives the team opportunity to still win it. I think, nrl needs this rule in ASAP to avoid this happening again. Otherwise, this could mean Less people watching the game and sponsors leaving p. There is a difference between send off and 10 in the sin bin. Sent off is a big deal and very rarely happens due to how it can affect the game. They will not be allowed back on the field for the rest of the game and the team will be a man down for the rest of the game. Usually if a player gets sent off they also face several weeks suspension by the match review committee. What typically happens when there is a bad shot. The ref will pause the game and have the bunker (referees that sit in a booth with access to all camera angles) who will typically tell the ref what happened. That's why when he sent him off the captain Ben trbojevic was shocked and said OFF OFF ?? He was expecting it to he 10 in the bin.

Yes game was won when send off occurred. 12v13 all game constant overlap is a instant death blow at this level. I believe it should've been a sin bin with Walsh slipping into the contact & it being State of origin where heavy contact is guaranteed. Suaalii is 192cm tall compared to Walsh being 177cm so it was a tough call which ultimately dictated the games outcome.

A sin bin is 10 minutes, sent off means they have to play with one player on the field down for the rest of the game, the knocked out player can't come back on the field either so they are down a player coming on and off the bench.

Suaalli was sent off meaning they are down to 12 men on the field for the rest of the game, Reece Walsh was given a category 1 HIA(head injury assessment) meaning a guaranteed 11 days out of the game(which to me is still to short, to me I think they should be out a minimum 3 weeks).

i love how all the comments don't even explain the very basic to the canadian whos a foreigner to the sport and even if not to the sport, to the ORIGIN series, which makes a difference to the explanation, the point of the game is mate vs mate / state vs state i.e they are already in football clubs, they take them the very BEST from each club (and its based on where you were born i think) and they smash them into each other, yes some might be even fighting their OWN club/team-mates, i'm not even into sports that much, and even i know to explain that

The offending player that was sent off still has to face a tribunal. He will get a four match ban from the standard NRL competition if he pleads guilty or could face a five match ban if he tries to fight the charge and is found guilty. Most probably he will not be playing in the State of Origin 2 game in a few weeks. There are three matches or games to decide the winner of the State of Origin in each year. The next game is at the MCG in Melbourne, a supposedly neutral venue of over 100,000 seating capacity, that will most probably be sold out to capacity.

NSW paid a heavy price, but it was a send-off every day of the week, and I'm 100% Blues. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but there was a massive risk to the NSW selection without utility; even with the utility in place, NSW would have lost. It looks very much like QLD for 2024, but that is exactly the challenge a champion NSW would relish? Are you up to it NSW?

1, The MCG (100,000/AFL/cricket) is in Melbourne, Victoria. Wrong state, mate! What made losing this game so tough for the Blues is that this was their only home game (Sydney, NSW) for the series and was their best chance to win a game; let alone the series. Game 2 is a neutral ground in Melbourne and Game 3 (a potential decider) is Maroons home game (QLD). 2, I would prefer you went for the Maroons because they play better with ball skills and mental composure. NSW Blues only know how to be tough and when they're usually outplayed they resort to thuggery which makes us hate them even more and makes their losses all the more deserved. Blues hate us because their skills are not up to the same level of quality and we don't play the game the way they think it should be played (more toughness than skill). An example of that is when we had a penalty we took the kick and scored 2 pts. When they took a penalty (not shown here) they chose 6 again to attempt a try and failed. 3 A lot of AFL fans like me follow the Melbourne Storm and thus join in with going for the Maroons.

I see everyone whining about the ref making that call 8 minutes in. Whether it's the start of the game or the end of it, it doesn't matter. The ref needs to make the crucial call. Whether or not he deserved to be sent off... well, that's a whole other argument. It's a shame, too. First, quickest and probably youngest debutant to be sent off in an Origin game :/

Issue with saying they should play a man down for 10 min and have another player replace them is, you have effectively wiped out QLDs best attacking weapon and the only consequence is having a man out for 10 min. The punishment fit the action. Players need to be more accountable when throwing their bodies around, that could have been so much worse, lucky Walsh was able to walk off the field and not carted into an ambulance.

@@EamonnReacts The send off was entirely justified. Walsh was targeted with intent, he didn't even have the ball before that Suaalii looked and saw Walsh was going to have the ball and instantly ran to injure him with a big hit. Billy slater (QLD coach) Was the same kind of player as Walsh in his day, and he was targeted relentlessly with those same type of bullshit hits from NSW players trying to remove them from the game via injuries and had a replacement for him because HE KNOWS thats what NSW does, they are a dirty, thuggish side that seeks to injure star QLD players and take them out of the game, penalties be damned. That dynamic has always been there with that team ever since i've been watching, the selectors for the New South Wales team always pick overly aggressive, large players for this very purpose. Look at one other selection, Liam Martin, the whole game that braindead idiot was trying to bust up QLD players with big hits but he only got 65 Meters of ground holding the ball, the entire game. He is not an origin level player, he was selected to injure opposing players. He only ever made 28 tackles, and MISSED 8. The only impact he made the entire game was knocking a ball out of someone's hands while acting like a human missile. A 20 minute sin bin is too light a punishment for this kind of intent. Queensland's best playmaker out and NSW get to slot in a new player 20 minutes afterwards would only reinforce NSW's tactics to injure QLD players. And speaking of the 'tackle'. As soon as Walsh got the ball he passed it immediately, he would need to dip his body to pass the ball, you can't throw it far without lowering your body. Its clear as day he saw Joseph charging to injure him as he was mid pass, and was attempting to brace/stop moving to lower the impact speed. But as soon as the ball left his arms there was absolutely no time for him to pull his arms up or come to a stop, resulting in him leaning back to brace and causing him to slide/slip into Joseph. Again, bullshit hit, intentionally reckless, and you can tell because there was ZERO attempt from Joseph to control/wrap/strip or take him down to the ground.

Yeh ref may as well blow fulltime after that send off. Impossible to win 12v13 after 7 mins. (For perspective, live betting on QLD was suspended immediately and NSW were $51 at half time) It just means every player tires out that much faster, the 13 always have an overlap in attack and spare numbers in defense. Also sorry to say, Hynes was awful and they should bring Moses in for Game 2.
