Before Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews, and Nathan Mackinnon were targeted in the NHL.. Sidney Crosby was the shining example of getting extra attention. In this video, we break down a moment where Crosby proved to the league (especially the Philadelphia Flyers) that he would not be intimidated.

not many sports have you required to replace all your teeth by the time you are done. i dont think its unreasonable at all that many players dont wanna jepordize their health and physical apperance to make a career and that theres a push to phase out the dirty and overly physical aspects of hockey. this was a bad take honestly .if youre not pissed about loosing 2 teeth idk what is wrong with you and sid had every right to be even if ¨thats just how hockey is played¨

@MACK0142
@MACK0142 Жыл бұрын
I mean technically it did shorten Crosby's career. Not as significantly as Mario's, but he basically missed a season and a half of games right in the prime of his career. Plus we were all robbed of what may have been one of the most impressive single-season performances when Crosby first went down. He was only halfway through the season and had already put up like 66 points including 30+ goals....he easily could've ended that season with close to 140 points and over 60 goals AND this was during an era in the NHL when scoring was nowhere near as easy as it is now. It wasn't quite a dead puck era, but for a single player to achieve a point/game avg back then was huge. Nowadays it's common for every team to have at least one player who can do this.

There are two types of players in the NHL. Those that can defend themselves, and those that bring enough to the team that they don’t need to be as gritty to get the job done. Crosby was the latter, and it is so disgusting that nobody on Pittsburgh thought to avenge their star teammate. I wish he wasn’t as good (go caps) but if he was on another team he would have had plenty of guys protecting him.

This video is a prime example of just how much that wasn't the case. At least not early on in his career. I will admit that once guys like him and Ovi became veteran all-stars, THEN they would certainly get favorable call now and then, but that was par-for-the-course in the NHL with it's top players.

McCreary was notorious for pinning the skill guys arms at his sides, while the goon took another couple shots at his face.

Star players need to protect themselves to some extent. For all the criticism Crosby received for being soft, he'll absolutely protect himself. See when he chopped off Marc Methot's finger. Mcdavid protects himself to an extent. Malkin is a psycho and at his peak looked after himself. Ovi is too big to bully. Kucherov is straight up dirty at times. You can see what it's like when Star guys aren't willing to do anything to defend themselves in Auston Matthews. He allows himself to get bullied and it's obviously had an impact on his game in the playoffs at the least. Star guys shouldn't have to defend themselves at all times, but they absolutely have to.

Officially, Sid’s lost year was due to concussion and soft tissue damage. Un-officially, my money is on that the Crosby camp told the NHL and the players association, that the current main draw in hockey will be fully recovered and will return to play only when there are guarantees that no one in the league could be subject to back to back hits like Crosby endured leading up to his time off. Voila, the department of player safety!

It wasn’t until I started to find out why he reacted the way he did, that I began to respect him more than anyone else. I learned about the concussions and the dirty play he had to endure. He was treated worse than any player I’ve seen,at most he wanted a little protection from the targeting, which is fair enough. He put up with more than any player I’ve seen in my lifetime and he did so with class, with grit and remained a true ambassador to the sport. Sid is legendary. Every single person who called/calls Sid "Crybaby" would be the FIRST IN LINE buying that "CROSBY" jersey if he got traded to thier teams 😂 Yeah im sureeee hes the ONLY player to b#tch at the refs..... The funniest though, the people who hate Sid and the Pens the most and loudest, many of them werent even BORN YET the last time thier team even held a cup! Hes been nothing but a blessing to Pittsburgh AND hockey. So hate on that

I don't care what anyone says. Wayne Gretzky got the same rep back in the day. I like both Crosby and Gretzky. I appreciate their skill and their fire. Also, Philly brought themselves a hell that they richly deserved.

I hate Crosby only for the fact that he was hyped so much all these years. More than any other player. Crosby could do no wrong!

Auston Matthews was continuously ragdolled by Chiarot and Weber during the playoffs... and was so scared to react it was embarassing. Montreal won in 7 with not half the star-power. Lesson learned ?

It's one thing to rough a new comer, but some of that sh!t is just needless. I've never appreciated players that try to end other player's careers. They're all out there with the same dream, why ruin it, ya know.

The league honestly should do more to protect the superstars. I am a more recent fan to the game, and I love the physical nature. I don't want it to get neutered like the NFL has to some degree. But Crosby has dealt with way too many injuries that slowed and possibly prevented what likely was the second 2000 point man from getting to that benchmark. I agree that Penguins probably could've done more by having more enforcers of their own to make guys pay for this. But the bruisers on opposing teams will take the damage if it means stopping the only generational player on the ice. So the only true way to limit it is with officiating.

The stars make the game. If they hate stars and skilled hockey so much, they should just let a new sector of the league for skilled hockey be created. The goons can kill each other off with their boring ass hockey

Plain and simple, Sid owns Filthadelphia. Haven't won a cup in 48 years, fans constantly throwing things on the ice, had a dog literally shit on their logo- definition of a poverty franchise.

Crosby never had the McSorley Gretzky. No one would have dared to do something like that to Gretzky.

Wow, I really didn't watch Hockey regularly till my hometown Seattle Kraken got added, but this just gets me angry. Now, I've been told I have, and am seeking help, for anger issues, but this seems unacceptable as just part of the game, then or now. You don't want to know what I would try to pull on someone if I was under constant abuse and this person continued to the point where my livelihood, sanity, and physical well-being was being threatened. Just apeshit I guess.

McDavid has it easy and is lucky nobody is out there targeting him, especially with the current schedule. Crosby would have been even better.

Anyone calling Crosby a crybaby is insecure about their own speed and skill in the game. No one who called him a cry baby could ever beat him one on one and thats a fact.

Obviously bring back high talented enforcers. Remember, Laraque was an excellent overall player. Just don't use those guys as ONLY enforcers, let em play the game. BUT YOU Cross the line, big guy is going to mess you up. I've never seen an actual hockey GREAT not acknowledge that hits are part of the game.
