Hoda Kashiha - Another world is waiting for us - Galerie Nathalie Obadia, Brussels

Née à Téhéran en 1986, Hoda Kashiha suit initialement des études de peinture dans la capitale iranienne avant de rejoindre l'université de Boston aux États-Unis en 2014. Après avoir résidé temporairement sur le territoire américain, l'artiste repart en Iran en 2016, pays où elle décide de vivre et de travailler. Cette mobilité internationale lui permet d'élargir ses connaissances en arts et plus amplement, sa conception du monde. À 25 ans, l'artiste découvre la scène artistique américaine, beaucoup plus vaste que celle qu'elle avait connue jusque-là à Téhéran. Les divers enseignements qu'elle reçoit ont un impact sur son vocabulaire pictural : ses œuvres sont des carrefours d'influences variées, oscillant entre cubisme et veine cartoonesque, avec pour sujet central la situation socio-politique iranienne. Ses peintures et installations mettent en scène des sujets similaires à ceux des bandes dessinées ou des dessins animés, se rapprochant du pop art américain. Cependant, à la différence des bulles de pensées permettant aux spectateurs de lire les émotions des personnages, Hoda Kashiha choisit l'expressivité du geste et de la couleur : les œuvres vibrent sous les formes anguleuses, rondes, larges et étriquées, peintes à l'aide d'une palette chromatique décalée par rapport à la réalité.

Born in Tehran in 1986, Hoda Kashiha initially studied painting in the Iranian capital before transferring to Boston University in the United States in 2014. After residing temporarily in the United States, the artist returned to Iran in 2016, where she decided to live and work. This international mobility enabled her to broaden her knowledge of the arts and, more broadly, her understanding of the world. At the age of 25, the artist discovered the american art scene, which was much larger than the one she had previously been exposed to in Tehran. The various courses she took had an impact on her pictorial vocabulary: her works are intersections of varied influences, oscillating between Cubism and a cartoonish style, with the Iranian socio- political situation as their central subject. Her paintings and installations depict subjects that derive from comic strips or cartoons, in a manner reminiscent of American Pop Art. However, unlike the thought bubbles that allow viewers to read the characters' emotions, Hoda Kashiha opts for the expressiveness of gesture and colour: the works vibrate with angular, round, expansive and slender shapes, painted in a chromatic palette that is at odds with reality.
