Man.. people are really hating Panerai these days.. I think they are doing a great job with the materials and new sizes, agree with the Luminor due collection but the dials, hands and cases have never looked better for me at least, plus the move to in house with micro rotors are pretty awesome..

Outstanding. I own alot of high end watches including several Panerai models . I own a Panerai Carbotech and it is next level good in scratch resistant, light weight and comfort. It’s look and design is the ultimate “big black” high end sports watch. The p9010 movement gets 80 hours power reserve and has the strongest amplitude from its dual barrel mainsprings I have tested on the scope. Ceramic rotor bearings, etc... If you are a movement snob, this has it all. Mine comes in at +1 second a day.

Design/Photography/Film students take notes... even jean luc goddard would be breathless. That being said, no amount of framing and heritage narrative can convince me Panerai is a diverse catalogue brand, rather than a model. Couldn't care less about 500 different combinations in the same case. I feel most want what the military used, no more no less. And make one especially for my baby wrist at 38mm with WR!!!!! My prompt for the brand is if the military came for a watch in 2020 from Panerai, what would it look like? The product of that prompt is what I would like to see and I know its beginning to be touched on (i.e carbon case). All said and done, only respect for Hodinkee and Panerai. Humbly ZB

Haters are funny. Why watch videos of things you don’t like? Do you watch videos of cars you think are ugly just so you can comment? Houses you think are too big so you can make a comment about their size? Just why? Anyway…I’ve had a 111 for ~12 years and it’s still one of my favorite watches. Others have come and gone but I never get tired of the Panerai design...which is why I watched the video. I'm interested in the new submersible 42mm 683 BTW. Very cool.

I suspect most people that hate on Panerai have at least one watch in their collection that apes one of their key design elements, whether or not they know it. Panerai’s design language is, next to Rolex, probably the most mimicked of not outright copied things in horology today.

ianmedium well, it stops being "criticism" and becomes just bias, personal taste and hate when you start looking at FACTS and NUMBERS this brand has been putting out for the last TWO DECADES. They've enjoyed exceptional growth and the quality of the watches has grown exponentially. Most of the comments blasts Panerai for their size while at the same time completely ignoring the fact that they ALSO make watches of 38, 40, 42 mm (that includes the Luminor and Radiomir lines). That's the pure definition of a hater.

Some very nice watches, I’d take one of those blue/black carbon submersible at 42mm, £15k however, seems a bit much for what you get though. ValFleurier ebauche date, carbon case. What Omega’s new 300m offers for £3.5k being a benchmark, hell the tantalum/titanium&Gold one is only £9.6k. 🤔 Numbers not stacking up.

I think Panerai might just be my favourite watch brand. Of course, they're overpriced by about x5 to x10. The thing is, the replica industry has got Panerai's stuff copied to such an extent that my local watchmaker can't tell the difference. So I got replicas and I love them. Sue me.
@smashexentertainment676
@smashexentertainment676 3 жыл бұрын
Replicas can never replicate the movement. They either put cheap mass produced Chinese movement, or make a sloppy obvious replica of original, and you still never get like 3+ days of power reserve, coz it's just too expensive to make. Any decent watchmaker will spot the difference immediately. Tho Panerai lately is lazy with movements and skips on decoration.

LongTermCap your ignorant they’re not all limited editions, they are all limited because they make roughly 75k watches a year where as Rolex and omega make over 1 million watches a year. The LIMITED number on the back tells you how many of that particular model was made that year. Their SPECIAL EDITIONS are far less usually only make 500, 250, 50, etc for the most part less than 500 and they only make it for one year. Don’t compare omega with panerai as far as special editions. Why do people speak of things they don’t know anything about hahahaha
@amirjon
@amirjon 5 жыл бұрын
You know, I own a few Langes and they make 4,000 watches a year. They probably have 100 limited editions a year. Which Panerai do you own? The reason they don't make 900k watches a year like Rolex is because you can't find 900k people dumb enough to buy the damn things... @@user-cb7cf6mp4q

@user-cb7cf6mp4q 5 жыл бұрын
LongTermCap that has to be the dumbest argument I’ve ever heard. So you’re saying that Panerai don’t have enough buyers to be making 1 million watches a year. How about Patek? They make like 60k watches a year (dont quote me on that) don’t you think if they made a million nautilus’s or aquanauts a year that they would sell but no they don’t want to saturate the market and they want to keep the brand, in a way, exclusive. Exclusivity over luxury. So again that is a terrible argument hahaha!
@amirjon
@amirjon 5 жыл бұрын
Patek makes around around 40k. BUT what you're missing the point completely. Pateks avg selling price is around $45,000 USD. While Panerais Avg selling price is below Rolexes. The original Panerai Luminor from Firenze is a traditional and historic diving watch. Luminor Due (2 in Italian) WR 30m = Thoroughly Disappointing to say the least and more like plainly pathetic. So Mr CEO you are advertising to customers that it is important to keep the "safety lock system". Dude ... like maybe change the marketing jibe to "Panerai Senza Palle!" or "Panerai Permeable". What a sad state of affairs when a great company pulls the wool over its own eyes.
@algorithm007ify
@algorithm007ify 5 жыл бұрын
Luminor Due is a dress watch..it was never marketed as a diver...they have other models for that
@haywoodf
@haywoodf 5 жыл бұрын
Panerai’s web site splash mantra is “Survival Instruments for Modern Heroes”. Sure you are correct, they do have dive watches with good WR. The Luminor Due has the design features of the iconic and military born dive watch e.g. characteristic crown lock/protector, large legible display with lume (sans WR) etc but you say marketed as a dress watch. I say purporting to be something it isn’t. It's analogous to putting a top of the line auto badge on the back of a much less capable model but charging the same. That says something about the buyer and seller that isn't my cup of tea.
@algorithm007ify
@algorithm007ify 5 жыл бұрын
@@haywoodf That Panerai website marketing is aimed at the SUBMERSIBLE model, not the Panerai Due. Look at the DeepSea marketing on the Rolex website, for reference. Why can't a dress watch have a crown protector? Doesn't Patek also make dress watches with crown protectors (that are traditional for SPORTS watches)?? For example, the Patek world time from the early 2000's has a crown protector.
@haywoodf
@haywoodf 5 жыл бұрын
@@algorithm007ify Sure, dress watches can have a CROWN PROTECTOR. That is not the ISSUE here. The Luminor Due has the same crown protector as the original Luminor models but with insignificant WR. That is an all show and no go feature which doesn't befit a luxury brand for mine. So if you're saying that type of crown protector is also a dress, elegant and svelte attempt at protecting the crown with insignificant WR. Fine, each to their own.
@algorithm007ify
@algorithm007ify 5 жыл бұрын
heywoodf There are many examples of dress watches with the same crown protectors as divers and other sports models from the same brand. However, what I am primarily saying is that their crown protector is a DESIGN CUE....like the cyclops for Rolex. Rolex use the cyclops in all watches (sports and dress) including Submariners (300m), Patek use crown protectors in their sports and dress watches..(including the Nautilus at 120m WR)... the Panerai crown protector is their signature design for the Luminor, and they are fully entitled to use it. There is no rule against this. I understand if you don’t like it on a dress watch, however, it is much more elegantly executed than on the dive models. The watch is quite thin around 10mm. It’s not for everyone, but it’s definitely a winner for some people.
