I think each one of their pieces is truly stunning. So original and instantly recognizable. I'm more of a GMT kind of guy, but I'd love a perpetual calendar or minute repeater from AP

One cannot understand why a watch collector loves and lives in collecting watches. Their….why do you need 10 watches? our answer, the art and craftmanship. For us wearing any of our watches is like wearing art on our wrist and being able to look at it and know the work that went into it, others. just see something that tells the time.

Maybe I'm not the customer AP is aiming for but I find the Royal Oak line a little too "nouveau riche" for my taste if I'm being honest. In my mind it is for someone who needs people to know he has so much money he can waste it in a steel watch. It suits perfectly on a NBA player or one of those rapers or "artists" but it's not for me. Except the perpetual calendar with white dial in yellow or rose gold. That one is beautiful.
@epvtrinidad6 жыл бұрын
Andres De Moya interesting take! definitely not uncommon. As someone who loves the brand (not necessarily all the watches though), it’s nice to have these discussions with people of varying tastes: so in the same vein, I take it that you also don’t exactly like the nautilus in steel? Not to mention it’s trading a lot higher? If this is the case, what pieces do you prefer? I like the jumbo way more than the 5711; the calatrava doesn’t appeal to me as much as a reverso or an FPJ CB.. but I do like all of these more than any AP ROO (maybe except the diver). Wanna hear your thoughts!

With some of the Off Shores I can see that and I don’t know if it’s country specific but here in Austria it’s certainly from what I have seen at the Opera and other classical music venues we are blessed with here the wrists of the old money seem to have a fair number of AP’s on them especially vintage or the Royal Oak, in fact as well in the UK Prince Michael of Kent has worn a TT Royal Oak for almost thirty years. However, when I lived in Vancouver the majority were new money stockbroker types or wealthy Chinese and they all wore the really gaudy ones.
@AndresDeMoya6 жыл бұрын
@@epvtrinidad to be honest I'm not a AP fan. The brand I love is Cartier so in that vein if I had to chose an AP watch I'll go without a doubt with the Reverso. I don't care much about references so I can't tell you which but being honest all reversos are gorgeous. There's something about the case's shape that is so simple and beautiful.
@AndresDeMoya6 жыл бұрын
@@ianmedium and in WWII there where Jews in the nazi front. There are fringes in everything but that doesn't mean that they are right. "new money" is just an expresion. I know even old money people can have gaudy taste. Most people want to be part of the bunch.

@Random Human Well... Of course you only see apple watches you go. People tend to stay in between their own brackets so people you meet will be almost all alike. And that generalization is really wrong. Where I live I've only seen one apple watch and everyone wears a watch cheap or not. And from a design standpoint you can't compare Rolex to AP. Rolex has a great design that stands time and they rarely mess with it. That's why you can spot a new or old Rolex from a mile away and the watches they've inspired. But I've never seen a really cool watch inspired by an AP. The fact that rapers and sportsmen use them is inconsecuential. Is like saying "alcohol is freedom because Nazis and communists also use to drink schnapps."

Complicated watches are wonderful, but that's what they are - complicated watches. Before the advent of computer, they do make sense. Now, it's just simply not practical. It's just like cars. Too often 'dress watch' simply means 'not a sports watch', but, there's rather more to it than that. For example a high end classic Three Centre Hands manual winding watches are very rare, and sort after by connoisseurs. One of this in Patek will cost you a Benz or BMW. Normally, what we see are those with 2 hands or sub second hand. So, as watch lovers, we are grateful to Grand Seiko for continuing with the SBGW series every year, the latest being the 231, at an affordable price of 3K, with finishing that even Patek would not want to compete.

machiningpaper It’s just a style element. The real screw heads are in the back.

machiningpaper that would be the nut, it's enclosed to resemble a hex screw, and as Pasquale said the screw is in the back but it's a functional design the hole keeps the nut ( it's probably called something else) from turning and protecting the enclosed nut since it's made of white gold

@@marcoa7090 Your're right, but they didn't have to make a slit (in lack of a better word) in the nut on the front. That's pure decorative.

Chiming watches exist longer than matches. It was a lot easier {for the happy few owning such complications} to make your pocket watch chime than figure out a way to light a candle.
