Completely agree about winding a watch.
@rohitjoshi53452 жыл бұрын
Agree, but for those on a small budget automatic watches are the only option. But I also heard manually winding an automatic watch can damage it?
@WyattBain2 жыл бұрын
@@rohitjoshi5345 I think the damage occurs from being over wound. Most modern watches have a clutch to stop over winding from happening

Nothing more mesmerizing than picking up and winding my spring drive Grand Seiko Shunbun… upon startup, the smoothing sweep seconds gliding at a wicked fast pace until the brakes engage 🤤 Also stoked that he mentions Oris’ Calibre 400 movement with a 5-day power reserve (I own the Aquis Calibre 400) 😊

"It's a simple matter to wind a watch once a day with a key. And I take the view that if a man hasn't got the tranquility of mind to do that and observe the works going around that. He doesn't deserve to have a watch anyway." -George Daniel.

Pequignet have a 100hour power reserve too, personally I enjoy winding but I can see the appeal of a work watch that can be left over the weekend and picked up on Monday still running.
@balthus92652 жыл бұрын
Love to wind my watches also, but not on a daily basis. Based on my experience, 70h power reserve is more than enough in an automatic watch if you don’t want to wound it frequently. You can let it rest at Friday and pick up on Monday without even worrying about it. If you put it in rotation with other longer power reserve watches it’s even better.

There is a Channel on youtube where they pressure test also watches. They test a 100m waterresist Pulsar quartz dive watch and it goes all the way to a pressure at a depth of 3000 metres also a cheap Vostock rated at 200m wateresist that is still working at a pressure of 700 metres!!!!
@wuweiwilliam2 жыл бұрын
I don’t work in the watch industry but I would assume that a dive watch’s depth rating is specified by how robust the case design is to repeated dives to a threshold depth that is within its fatigue stress limit, such that it can achieve a target number of dives over its useful working life - minus several tens of metres as a safety factor
@diavalus2 жыл бұрын
@@wuweiwilliam indeed, just because a watch did reach a certain pressure only once doesn’t mean much

even my dive computer only have 150mtr depth resistance, deep water ratings only make watches thick, heavy and cumbersome for a scenario 99.999% of us will never experience in our lifetime

You could not pick a worse set for Jack. It makes him look washed out and almost blends into the blue. This is really a tragedy for someone as talented as him you should fix it as soon as possible. I’m not sure who has an axe to grind with Jack but we should start with the person who designed this set.

I think it’s funny that people are asking what would you buy to B.C. versus what would he buy to you! You obviously can’t afford to buy anything like that but he certainly could afford to buy you something like that. I don’t think people realize how much dough Ben has vs. you. Another unrelated observation, Jack you are talented and brilliant watch journalist but you’re a s...y comedian and you are trying to hard. I understand it’s fun but dude you look ridiculous. You going overboard and trying to hard to be funny and it's not working out. Just be yourself it’s probably more interesting and enticing to watch that then you trying to be a comedian. Don’t quit your day job bro. seriously, half of the times I’m cringing while watching you. No sorry bro, I’m not trying to be mean
