The price argument is so true ... distracts from all aesthetic aspects and technical miracles in those tiny machines. Especially for some brands the talk everytime gravitates to prices in the end 🙄

And treating it as a vehicle for speculation without considering the object to have any actual inherent value. Like what stocks would be if “value investing” and “fundamentals” didn’t exist. Like (some) crypto.

i have a dive watch (GSAR) when i wear it on top of my sleeve while hiking at -30°C, condensation will form on the inside of the crystal. i assume that when i unscrew the crown in a 50%+ humidity environment, humidity does get in. upon sealing the watch by screwing in the crown, humidity is 50%+ inside the watch. therefore at cold temps that humidity will condense. so i figure.

Going back to the discussion of condensation: I have a BB58 that I recently wore at Disney’s Aulani resort. While there, I wore my watch in the pool and snorkeling in cold water. When I went to the jacuzzi area, which is about -100 degrees (the same temperature as a warm shower), I was concerned about condensation in my watch. I only submerged my watch for a few minutes, and being the worried person I am, decided not to spend too much time in the jacuzzi with my watch and weny back into the pools. The next morning, I saw stains on the crystal of my watch. When I got home, I sent it in to Tudor, and they said the gaskets and crown were fine, but the anti-reflective coating on the underside of the crystal was the problem. They said it was a defect and replaced the crystal for free, which is awesome service, but I still believe it had something to do with the warm water in the jacuzzi as the stains didn’t appear until after that day. I won’t wear my watches in the shower or jacuzzi again because I’m worried it might happen again.

My watch obsession started with my first proper watch in 1966 Over the last decade the information available on the internet has been fantastic ! The only down side are the prices and people who buy for investment and not for love! One video i watched a chap take delivery of his Rolex and he didnt take off the tags and promptly put it in his safe having no intention of wearing it? I found that sad!

The question of gold type is also linked to colour....18cr looks more gold than 14cr and 12cr, which look a lot more dull, not a bright gold basically, so doesn't look as luxurious.

Gold purity. I doubt you're right. My (crested) signet ring was given to me when I reached the age of twenty-one. It's made of hard 9 ct. gold alloy to maintain the seal engraving. It has never, in the past sixty years, shown any sign of oxidants or finger staining.

This jack guy is really knowledgeable. How does he know all this about watches. Even condensation test 🤯. However I am not sure he answered the question correctly. I think what the first question meant was: is the watch resistent to steam which is a gas like air.

Why when a watch is like 30 m water resistant do they say you can't even swim in it? Why don't they just say it's not water resistant at all or just put one meter or something? How can they say 30 m water resistant but you can't even take a swim one m deep? Like, the Panerai Due... 30m and swim= no no according to most dealers, owners, etc... Can you even shower in a 30 m watch? Jeez lol

I take this opportunity to tell you what about you they lie to me a lot with their Rolex there are too many brands in the market, Corum for example, to talk about something different but since you don t sell it they are not interested in talking about it.

It’s really worrying how much price and potential appreciation of watches has taken the central stage of this hobby. Too many people buying watches as investment, specially in Asia and mainly Rolex, taking out the chance of enthusiasts to buy the watch they want. The market has gone insane with speculation.
@ajackofspades2 жыл бұрын
It's essentially a ponzi scheme now. Tonnes of people blindly buying rolex on the hope that they will forever go up.
@vincent672392 жыл бұрын
I’m also worried about those speculators getting bored and moving on to some thing else, crashing the watch market and harming brands with the oversupply and decreased demand. And then the grey market would still profit from this🤦♀️ Like they came in, salted our crops, and left.

An automatic watch works in Space. Just an example. This is quality.
@phmwu73682 жыл бұрын
Of course the first automatic wrist watch was already used during Gemini V in August 1965 as Charles Conrad wore his personal Glycine Airman GMT automatic pilot watch? The first automatic chronographs were used onboard Skylab-4 as Gerald Carr wore a Movado Datachron HS360 and William Pogue wore a Seiko 6139-6005 auto chronograph...

"I feel like that it has risen to a deafening clamour that really makes it hard to have any other kind of conversation about watches" Never have I agreed so much with a statement about the current watch market. When I got into watches, about 10 years ago, no one around me care about it. Nowadays many of my friends, colleagues, people I meet, have all become "watch nerds", but the only conversations I have with them are "the current market", "pricing", "speculation", it's almost as if it's become an extension of the whole crypto craze, which is a huge turnoff for me.
