Very well designed. People always figure a way to build the better mouse trap. It's a cliche' I know, but it is so true! Can't wait to see what you catch with it Tim!

Very innovative setup for sure. Having a hog in a trap must be pretty wild to say the least.

It's a special kind of rodeo for sure. When I was a young man, we'd turn a pack of hounds loose and let them corner one in the woods, then we'd snatch him up by his hind legs, "hog tie" him and put him in a pen. Loads of fun for a young man. Too bad I'm an old man now.

Hello, Maybe you could put up a trailcam and show us the snare in action with some pigs. Please include size and weight of any captured hogs. Thanks, BAG2
@Meattrapper9 жыл бұрын
Will definitely have a cam in operation. I'm too old to drag hogs out of the woods so I usually butcher them in the woods and pack the meat out. Thanks for watching!

Meat trapper where do you get the compression spring from?
@Killemgrillem006 жыл бұрын
really cool , I used neck snares for the first time this year and had good success , seemed a lot more simple than this . Why not the neck snares, way less complicated ? Or do you use both .
@Meattrapper6 жыл бұрын
Dave Schleifer I use both, in my state foot snares are legal, neck snares are not. I neck snare when out of state.

This is a great idea! I’ve seen several DIY trap designs that use the same spring loaded snare design I would like to try. I was wondering were I could buy the spring material and what is it called?

Would a 110 conibear have any use in this configuration ?
@thecrittergitter75765 жыл бұрын
It might work, But I am thinking a bigger loop and a bigger trigger plate to set off the trap would be more successful. A 160 might work better than a 110.
@patrickjones60564 жыл бұрын
what and how do you connect the snare to? you dont show that in the video..
@parrotbill9 жыл бұрын
That's incredible! I think it is based on the Apache Foot Trap with the same type of effect, only better. Do a KZbin search "Apache Foot Trap" by wildernessoutfitters. The other videos are poor imitations of the wildernessoutfitters version of that trap. You dig a hole and place a woven basket bottom sort of thing with a hole through the middle for the food to go through, and lay your snare over that. You lay this over the hole you dug, then when a large hoofed animal steps in the hole the basket bottom clings to it's leg, holding the snare up high on it until the animal takes a step and pulls the snare tight. But your new spring loaded snare idea has a faster reaction time and guarantees a better hold.

What is the benefit to a leg hold snare rather than a neck/killing snare? In What circumstances would you choose this and why?

Hi...he also sells a 160 body grip trap of this style but he hasn’t answered me on EBay. Theoretically, since it’s a foot snare and not a traditional snare, the size doesn’t really matter right? As long as it throws the snare? It’s lighter and $20 cheaper.
@Larry3425169 жыл бұрын

Can deer escape this trap/snare? Here in Texas the hogs are everywhere the deer are. I would hate to try to release an angry or injured deer.
@Meattrapper9 жыл бұрын
Very good question! The truth is that any foot snare that will catch a hog will catch a deer. You cannot rely on the trap to prevent a deer catch - you must rely on trap placement and bait to prevent a deer catch. In other words - the trapper must prevent the deer catch and not rely on the trap to do his job. In future videos, I'll show how I use sour corn rather than fresh corn and how I build cubbies to allow hogs access but prevent deer access. Thanks for watching and great question.
@jwhess839 жыл бұрын
I use soured corn and diesel corn, but the deer still eat it. The cubby idea sounds like the best option.

Always have a catch and release pole...set traps in a hog trail, where its a tunneled spot in brush. put up a camera to see if deer go through there first.

Yep, the best way to avoid deer is to use the sour corn and build a small cubby. I'll cover that in the baiting and field setting video in about two weeks.
