The fact the you got the snares from southernsnares and the knowledge from a meattrapper video, coupled with the fact that you gave them a shout out is why i am subbing. I know them both personally and are great men with vast ammounts of knowledge. Kudos

I trap 150 200 coyotes a year I use a snare quite a bit you asked for advice here’s a few take your snares after you build them boil them and baking soda it will take the shine off of them. They stick out like a polar bear in a mud puddle when hanging your snare set it square with your trail this one appears to be turned to the right. If you’re standing behind it another thing I noticed your snare isn’t pre-loaded It’s a good thing to do. I know if you’re using 7 x 7 it can be a bit tricky to pre-load but once you get the hang of it and you see how they work, you’ll do it every time another suggestion would be put 50 pound compression Springs i’m not big on the mini torque kill springs. I don’t think they work as good as the compression spring. I’m not trying to sound like a know it all I started trapping in 1990 snares is what I started with like I said, I average 150 to 200 coyotes for the last 25+ years that’s all I do from Thanksgiving to the end of March using a snare I’ve caught everything from a coyotes, beaver otter, Havelina bobcats, muskrat even just to see if I could do it I don’t know if you build your own snares, but if you ever should want advice I would be more than glad to help you like I said I don’t know everything and if I don’t know the answer, I won’t steer you wrong. I’ll tell you I don’t know if you do look me up on Facebook PM me I’d be more than glad to help. Good luck buddy.

I snared a 400 lb. boar 2 years ago. I put some corn in front of the trap, and wrapped (poison) Ivy vine around the steel cable to hide the bare steel. Your snare sets looked so good, that I`m ordering a set myself.

You could use a bungee cord to secure the snare where you put it around the tree so it does not slip down. It would allow you to make sure that it doesn’t interfere with the wire you hang the noose with.

I would just not hammer staples into the tree. You could affix your offset wire by looping it around the trunk, would use more wire, but would not puncture your, or the owner's on a lease, trees.
@AaronSForeman
@AaronSForeman Жыл бұрын
That’s a very good point. Usually just use a nearby branch, but when not applicable I use this technique. I have removed the fencing staples though. Pry bar with a point worked well, with minimal damage to tree.

@@AaronSForeman Some trees have bark thick and solid enough to firmly hold short/fine staples that don't penetrate the cambium (green) layer immediately outside the solid wet wood, so don't damage (or minimal damage). There's a "knack" to getting it right. Worth it as damaged trees aren't good, particularly crop trees. Fixing traps is similar, below stumpp height and not exposing the wood that risks infection helps
