Nice project, that should hold quite a few toothpicks, keep the turnings coming and be safe! Greg

Nice simple lidded toothpick caddy. Instead of cutting the bottom straight off & sanding, next time just angling your parting tool a bit toward the center and cut it right through with the parting tool. Makes a nicer more professional finished bottom & guarantees that it stands nice. Nice job.

Thanks for the tip! I'll have figure out the trick for clean cuts with my parting tool though..

@ 6:35...put the scrap back in the lathe and turn a little bowl to showcase the sapwood with the heartwood arm. Soak in BLO for 24 hrs or boil in BLO for 20 minutes, after that just wipe with almond oil every few months. You might like the results.

Thanks for the feedback! I've tried a variety of finishes but the cedar always turns brown after a few months, I'll try the soak for sure.

Beautiful 👌 Cedar is one of my favourite woods. P. S. Watch out with the skew. You are cutting with upper part of blade and the wood could catch You 😉

Thank you! Yeah, my skew work needs a lot more practice...

Thank you! This is finished with wipe on poly and then a little furniture polish wax. I'm trying to figure out something better though because the cedar turns brownish after a few months.
