Magnacut is certainly not superior to 20CV. It is absolutely tougher and more stainless, but way down in term of edge retention. Because of the thin blade, it makes sense to have a tough material, and it makes sense that the handle is frn with Magnacut (cheaper tougher steel) , frn is cheaper and tougher than spacers and scales. Those ultra thin knives with chippy steel (20cv, s90v etc) do not give me confidence, I'd be too frightened to do anything else than eating with it. Even though it can process elks (I have a knife for that, s90v, 4mm spine, BM hidden canyon, top of the shelf)

All depends on which properties you find important! Some people would say a little dip in edge retention is worth it for the boost in toughness

@@Icy_Knife_Reviews Oh absolutely. I have a lc200n blade for fishing and spearfishing. Perfect exemple, but boy, it needs sharpening after any use (honing at least) , real pain... But yeah, tough as hell and very stainless. What I'd say is that the high edge retention factor is often found in high end knives. For the main task, cutting, it is certainly the most important attribute. But yeah, a broken knife cuts nothing... Then, there's geometry. Some say that Magnacut is so tough that you can make the thinnest blades, meaning the best cutting performance out of it.

i just bought the deka in 20cv wharncliff for deer season. i was using 14c28n as a comparison. i was quite simply blownaway by the edge retention on the deka. i gutted skinned and processed a huge huge doe with my deka, was cutting into bone a few times and even tried to split the chest up the middle. i was in extreme cold 18degrees f. stuck the blade completely into the snow multiple times as a temp sheath while doing the dirty work. after completely gutting and cutting the thick fur hide off and cutting all the different cuts of meat my 20cv deka was still slicing through printer paper like butter. push cutting performance was about 80 percent after the deer vs fresh off the stone but slicing motions rendered buttery smooth razor cuts. 10/10 from me. as someone who never spent more than 40 bucks on a knife this was really hard for me to justify spending 130$. after using the knife i am more than happy i splurged and bought the deka, mines a gen 1 but still its amazing. this deka incv20 should have no problems gutting and processing and skinning anything i throw at it for the rest of my days. sharpens as easily as my 14c28n but holds an edge a billion times longer. i didnt have to switch out my knife or sharpen at any point while doing the 165+ lb doe, and that to me is worth every penny i paid for the knife, when every second counts and you are out in the extreme conditions and just want to get out of the cold asap, having a knife like this is priceless.

That is impressive. How was the cleaning of the knife ? Not too much sticky stuff inside ? IMHO Folders are far from ideal for hunting.
