For those that may stumble onto this later like myself, I got the gray scales with the drop point. Wasn’t terribly happy with the action, even if I hadn’t nicked my pinky. lol So took it apart. Found the same thing as Nick Shabazz in his teardown. I took the piece out with the ball detent, but it really didn’t help. I was hoping for more drop-shuttiness. So put it back in. Found some red locktite on one of those screws, but managed to overcome it without much fuss. And for some reason, one end of the stop pin was lubed with some white grease. Not sure why. But she’s slowly breaking in. Still requires some wrist action, but will sometimes be drop-shutty closing. But what I found off-putting, especially for the price, is there are no bearings. Don’t imagine aluminum is that great for bearing material. So I’ll have to get some phosphor bronze bearings. I don’t think ball bearings will fit without modifications. Hope this helps someone. And I did check to make sure I hadn’t gotten a fake. 🙂

Just purchased mine on 20% discount for Presidents Day weekend sale at 5.11 Tactical, I am very impressed with it already. I honestly can say I ihave never heard of the company and I am happy to know that they are American Made!! Great video!

I wish they made this exact knife just a few inches longer. Maybe a 3.25 length cutting edge and keep everything as is. That would be the ultimate edc.

Good review. Can't say enough good things about my Hogue Ritter RSK so I know Hogue is capable of making really good stuff. I really wish Hogue would make more manual knives and have more designers (they're pretty hit or miss for me). I like the design overall, but the handle looks a bit small for me, otherwise I would own one of these. Sub 3" blades with grip lengths made for largeish hands are fairly hard to come by : ( Btw, you mentioned not knowing about their heat treat (and I may have missed it later in the review), but they list 57-59 HRC on their cpm-154 blades on the Hogue website, but I don't have any personal experience with it either.

FYI - There is a 2nd Detent in the back side scale.... The Detent is separate from the button lock.

Interesting knife. Not really big on the smaller knives but I really do like the look of this one. May consider it. Thanks for the review

I’ve always wondered if they fall shut but it looks like you kind of have to guide it closed. Cool company. I like their Ca models with tiny 2 inch blades and full grip!!

@@metal_complex -- Good , I love washers . The Chinese totally played bearings out, I'm hoping they start to switch back over , at least on a few models.

@@brianf9619 It actually runs on straight metal (I believe the AL handles) If you haven't already watch Nick Shabazz's disassembly video on this knife. The design of the action is genius

I love Hogue knives, but, check that button lock, give it a small spine wack or tap, if theres any play in the blade, the blade will fail
