So I went to the end of the map in Hogwarts legacy and then turned on the waypoint to see how far out I got and 2 unexpected things happened. This is something you definitely want to try out.

Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. For the first time, experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. Now you can take control of the action and be at the center of your own adventure in the wizarding world. Your legacy is what you make of it.
Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled for release on February 10, 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. The Deluxe and Collector's Editions will launch with 72 hours of early access to the game on February 7, 2023.
The PS4 and Xbox One versions will launch on April 4, 2023. Hogwarts Legacy is also confirmed for the Nintendo Switch with a release date of July 25, 2023.

I would say that it would be incredibly satisfying if we discover that flat-earthers are correct and your lot are wrong. But if they’re proven correct people like you, most likely wouldn’t humble yourself and apologize to them. If the Flat Earth Theory is correct people like you would most likely just ignore it and never talk about it anymore.

You enter in a visual loop but in reality you were just spinning into the void, that's the end. There is the illusion that you are moving but you are not. that happens in other games such as assetto corsa when you fell off a the map and it also happens in battlefront 2. So basically you reached the end but visually couldn't noticed.

that’s actually not true, i’ve tried myself using mods on PC. no barrie’s & unlimited broom boost. my icon made it all the way to 50,000 units away and that was a couple hours in so i’d given up after that. but yes you can go over 50,000 maybe at some point after that it will go in to the loop im not sure as i gave up.

it at some point it just looks like he's moving when he's not and the map it self stops moving but the number keeps going up clocking distance but not achieving it

Once you found the waters edge that was the end. After that you were just in the void and the void is infinite. Game engines populate the infinite void for devs to then build in which is why the water has an edge

I still don't understand how this works honestly. If lets say you have the Room of Requirement (what exists behind a loading screen, rather than being part of the normal map) does that mean its located in a different world altogether? or does the game just have 1 universal cell, but the Room of Requirement is simply somewhere in a empty spot far off at the edge of the map, and only loaded in when the player is there while unloading most of the normal map? How does the infinite void work? does it just generate new "boxes" or "cells" if the player enters them? (could you potentially overload the memory limit if you kept flying around in the void, forcing the game to create more empty spaces and adding them to its memory?)

@@jefthereaper so for the room of requirement, one way is to have it be far off in the same world or another is to have it in its own world and when you open the door it loads up that new world (essentially another map) and game engines work so if you get far enough away from things they will unload to prevent memory issues by default however once devs add in a bunch of assets and things happening they also will optimize in various different ways. But I’m terms of flying off into the void, everything the devs have made would just unload once you got far enough and essentially you can think of yourself as having a bubble around you and things inside that bubble are loaded and things outside of it are not.

@@the1anonlyblake Right, but I never understood how you can have the other example you mentioned: Two worlds separate from each-other. perhaps its a simple concept, but my mind just can't wrap around how two worldspaces can exist, yet no matter how far and long in any direction you go in worldspace 1, you will never be able to reach worldspace 2. Let alone if Worldspace 2 even exists at the same time, or is just unloaded but exists in the same spot worldspace 1 is.

@@jefthereaper think of it as two pieces of paper. Worldspace 1 is one piece that is drawn up (this would be the Hogwarts map and open world). Worldspace 2 is another piece of paper (the room of requirement) and so when you go to load up the room you swap from paper 1 to paper 2 and the load time is it pulling paper 2 up and stowing away paper 1. It really is a lot simpler than you might think. Hope this helps clarify

@@jefthereaper I think they can put it away above or below the general game space as well. I've seen them have stuff way below map. I'd really like to know how no man sky handles their freight bases as well. When you're outside it's an entirely different set up then from the inside for player built bases.

Because this is an Unreal Engine 4 game, you’ll start experiencing strange issues after you fly out about 10km or so from the center of the map. Physics, UI, timed game logic, everything will start falling apart worse the further you go. This is a floating point precision problem. Because Unreal engine 4 doesn’t support float double it falls apart with maps much larger than 20km x 20km

As a glitch from back in the day is like going below call of duty maps how you fall forever but you reach a point your not falling anymore but you can't see anything or really move to notice.

Once your coordinates reach the overflow limit my guess is you either get locked in place, teleported or the game just crashes due to unhandled exceptions.

Did you find the unused building near the “usable map” northeast of Falbarton Castle? You can sneak over the castle wall and under the game boundary there - seems like there’s a bunch of unused stuff out there.

This kind of makes me think of Mass Effect 3. In that game they made their big bad Reapers as big as they said in world they would be. 2 kilometers (1.24274 miles) which is huge, but they actually kept the in game model of the things to scale. If you get a mod and 'pause' the game and walk up wone of these things by the time you get to the tip of it everything else is so tiny. Your character isn't even a pixel at that point. Just wow.

I hate arbitrary invisible barriers in games. I like how some games just turn you around 180 degrees once you're out of sight of land and you find yourself heading back from where you came. Or the coordinate system overflows and you find yourself approaching the land mass from the other side. Or your location coordinate counter just keeps incrementing and you just keep going forever until you give up and turn around and go back.

This video felt like what you were describing. It went on and on and on and on, and I was not sure if it was ever going to stop. I kept watching to see if it would ever end or it would just keep being repetitive. And it was going and going, and when I thought it would end it kept going. And I'm still watching because it's still going. I'm not sure if it will ever be over but I will always be here watching because I'm too far in now.

I did this earlier today traveled south under the map then east, and got over 20k away from the northernmost floor flame. I left the map, and the sky box it ended up just a permanent black void.

I tried it for a few hours too. It has no end. after 4:30 hours i break up. It was at 251750 (meters?) from the coast, and still no end in sight. just black room.

Now I have been to the SW corner of the map before... it's fairly interesting but I have never gone beyond the map... I did travel in the mountains quite a bit... however I did notice that since the more recent patch many of the mountains in the SW which I had been able to pass through before are now solid. So makes me wonder if they aren't updating map files outside in the restricted area.

I think you should need to find out London location where it is from the start of the game. Maybe is hidden on some part of the map. Try going from hogwarts to directions of the train station and just move on from there…

I would like to be able to land on a roof and just stare up at the starss, i also would like to land anywhere id like :( also i would like to be able to jump over fences or rails instead of going all the way around with those invisible barriers😩 i would also like to swim underneath the water and see sum underwater creatures.... maybe even seeing a Grindylow👀

i feel through the map and was able to break the wall that way it got freaky out there with lighting and visuals found a few spots where i couldn't fly out there prolly end game areas

You didn't hit the edge of the map per se, you hit the edge of the known bounds of the water... ie the end of visible matter and were in the chaos of space

One thing I would like to share is that, depending on which version of Unreal Engine that the game is built with, there is a stark difference in potential map size. A version less than 5.1 is capable of something like 22km. But with UE5.1, the upper limit went to 88 MILLION km. So, tha is your answer . Now assuming that the world map's exact center is at x0 y0, then you are looking at 11km from the centerin every direction, or 44 million km in any direction, again, depending on which version of UE the game is built upon. Either way, it's a massive amount of space. As to how far down you can plummet, simply factor the Z axis into itand one could conclude either Z -11km or Z -44 million km.

@@hydrobandits UE4 isn't bad. It still holds up. But UE5 pretty much took everything that was learned since UE4 was made free to use and applied it all into some really awesom mechanics, while still leaving the base mechanics of UE4 intact to make it easier to convert a project. Where the conversion gets dicey is if there are modifications to the actual engine source code which could cause a lot of things to break if the same modifications to UE5 in the same code files which may already have been modified since UE4. I know that the up-coming MMO, Ashes of Creation began its development in UE4, but has since converted to UE5. But there is a big difference in doiong that to a game that is just in Alpha to one that is essentially in final development. If they did that to Hogwartz Legacy, it may have had to be delayed significantly as more or less most of it was no longer in a state of development flux. Now if they do a sequel to the game, or give it a special edition overhaul like Skyrim got, then they might do the conversion then, and just use the highest detailed assets and apply Nanite to them. That way, there will be no more level of detail model swapping which causes visuals to pop. And Lumen will allow for some spectacular lighting effects. The interesting thing is that performance actually improves with Nanite processing as opposed to old-school level of detail swapping. We'll see how it all goes moving forward, but as good as the game is now, I think the best is yet to come

@@hydrobandits From what I understand of the issues, it sounds like some poor optimization stuff going on. Consoles are not PCs. They are all exact duplicates of each other. But there are so many ways to build a PC, with so many different makes and models of the components that go into them. It really isn't a one size fits all situation. Different devices, different drivers and different versions of drivers. I built a machine one time that had a newer graphics card in it than was avaialbe when the game I was trying to run came out. It was an older game running on new hardware, so you would think it should be running as smooth as silk, even with the settings maxed. It was choppy as hell. Until I downloaded and ran the final post-release patch for the game which allowed it to sync with the current drivers for the hardware. After that, there wasn't a single snag in the performance. Lots of folks love to get their hands on a brand new top of the line machine right before a big game launch like this. And that's great. But sometimes you get a system that is too new, and the game is not talking to the drivers fluently, so things don't behave at top notch. This is usually what day one patches are meant to overcome, where the devs make sure that the game interfaces well with the hardware. Based on the many videos I've watched, we're still seeing the game without the fabled Day One Patch. When that gets deployed, it or the next patch should correct the issues.. Every Elder Scrolls game since Morrowind had to have a few post-launch patches to get the PC version out of the weeds. I think the same thing will happen here. And speaking of the PC version, I can't wait to see what sort of community-made mods will start showing up.

It's really just an endless void. I managed to just phase through Hogwarts ground (played on PC and teleported to the area where there's Summoners Court, and the large doors that lead back into the castle, which is whereI walked in), falling for half an hour, and of course there's nothing.

ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THIS? I've noticed that the world map in HL is extremely small. Long and really narrow. Like a big ditch! You take the map and put it into a square, you'd lose it in Skyrim even, which is the smaller map compared to todays RPG's! Not much to it. And I noticed it's severely lacking in content. Cannot believe it took 6 years to make Hogwarts. I definitely don't see 6yrs worth. Maybe a year tops, it's just so small. Almost like an open world N64 game.
