Hogwarts Legacy: Who Are the Main Characters? - Harry Potter Explained

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing HOGWARTS LEGACY- the much anticipated Harry Potter game that’s hitting shelves in just over a week. Specifically, we’re going to be taking a look at all major heroes, professors and villains from the game, describing who they are, what we know about them, and (for my own curiosity) how they might fit into the existing Harry Potter canon.

I have a few because I have preordered it but haven’t seen any previews. 1.What year is this set in? 2.Does it have to do with death eaters and Voldemort? 3. Do we get lesson and school gameplay?

Ravenclaw has a companion too he gives you a telescope for astrology and translates goblin languages for you

There are many people I'd be so excited to see, and also some you have missed, like Professor weasly and her nefew (can't remember his name but it started with a G) and Thomas Brown (one of Lavander Brown's ancestors) but of course with so many characters no one would have all of them in one video. I was really looking forward to seeing people from families like the Longbottoms, the Potters, and The Lovegoods (also, I just remembered the Digories exist lol) Anyway, great video man keep up the good work.

I have this headcannon backstory for my character (when I get the game for the Switch): He was born into a pure magic family (not pure bloods, but a magical family who thinks they are better than everyone else) and instead of being born with magic, he wasn't and was labeled a Squib. He has an older brother who went to Hogwarts and graduated (don't know which house specifically, but not Slytherin). His family always looked down on my character for not being magical and was excluded from any of the family activities and was treated like a servant. One day, his brother decided to play a prank on him and casted a spell on him, however, he miscalculated and ended up scarring my character's face (will select a scar when making my character). Seeing my character scarred, his family just ended up decided to kick him out of the house and have him live in a magical orphanage. It wasn't until when he turned 15 (when he starts his fifth year) when he suddenly starts to learn how to use magic. Word reached Hogwarts and that is when they sent Professor Fig to teach my character basic spells and, well, the rest is history. And if course, my character will be sorted into Slytherin house, a house that his brother desperately wanted to be in.

Why is Hogwarts so ethnically diverse in 1800's Scotland, the British isles would have been 100% white back then or as near as damn it. I thought hogwarts is the magical school for the British Isles with other magical schools in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Japan, Uganda, Brazil and so on. Are they more like modern universities in that regard, so geographical location has no bearing on what school you attend?

As far as HP lore discusses this topic, wizards can attend whichever school they want or no school at all. It is not mandatory. Why is it so diverse? The British Empire. While the muggle European colonial empires brought misery to the colonized populations, I'd like to imagine it affected the magical communities differently and brought them together. At least, it is how I headcanon the setting.

Will you be considering the new info this game gives us about lore and stuff as canon? Or I guess my question is should I take this as Canon? That's my biggest concern going into this game.

That's a good question. I'm going to have to play the game and feel it out in order to form an opinion on this, HOWEVER, it technically should be considered canon. As far as I know, the game fits quite well in to existing Harry Potter lore and doesn't really contradict anything.

Maybe this is unlikely but considering how Rookwood is going to be an antagonist, I for one would like to see more of the wizarding world's criminal underworld. I am hoping that in the game we will get to explore Nocturne Alley, maybe even undergo missions to infiltrate Rookwood's gang such as finding out what dark magic trinkets he's trading on the black market. Maybe we could even be allowed to partake in such illicit activities ourselves such as buying dark magic items from Borgan and Burkes that would give us powerful buffs as well as detriments. The game is rated M for mature like the GTA games so I don't think it would be out of the question.

The character of Mirabel Garlick has a striking resemblance to the character of Magrat Garlick in the late Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld series of novels. I wonder if one of the game designers was a Discworld fan or perhaps Rhianna Pratchett (Sir Terry's daughter and a game designer herself) was involved in the design.
