One of the very best uses of classical elements in metal yet! The Dark Side of the Moon just keeps getting better. So, Elizabeth, when are you going to dust off your classical voice and do a duet with an extreme vocalist on a classical piece? Something witchy, phantasmagoric or undeadish...

While the opening is indeed the Harry Potter theme, the lyrics are actually from a scene in the Shakespeare play Macbeth. In the scene three witches are dancing around a pot filled with bubbling water, and the witches add ingredients to the pot, naming each one as they put it in. You mentioned the layering giving the sense of a demon coming from the spell. This is quite fitting because in this scene Hecate, the Greek goddess of magic, casts a spell on Macbeth, helping the witches tell his future and manipulate him.

So much delightful infectious joy in this video. Melissa Bonny is such a terrific singer/songwriter, but her stage presence and presentation is out of this world and just keeps getting better. She was so deliciously sinister, exactly as called for by the material, and so elegant and expressive. For another cover, without Dark Side of the Moon, check the first Ad Infintum album "Chapter I: Majesty" which has a cover of "This is Halloween" from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" - the way she plays with her voice, changes characters and is almost voice acting through it. It is am *incredible* track, with so much imagination and agility.

While they are not a Metal band, the Dave Mathews Band has a kick-ass violinist by the name of Boyd Tinsley. Check him out on their earlier albums. Jefferson Starship (yeah, I know that's going way back in musical time) had Papa John Creech playing with them for a spell. Take a listen to the cut "John's Other". The Mahavishnu Orchestra (John McLaughlin et. al.) had Jerry Goodman on violin, followed by Jean-Luc Ponty in a second iteration. Just a few examples of violinists who have been playing rock/jazz fusion licks for quite some time now. Enjoy when you have a chance. Your weekly dives are one of the highlights of my KZbin surfing. Thank you for your unbridled enthusiasm and infectious joy.

Jenny is the Evil Harpist I love it. Seriously with every song TDSOTM gets better, so happy that Napalm encouraged them to do it. It is not like Morten (Amaranth), Melissa (Ad Infinitum, Hans (Feuerschwanz) and Jenny (Feuerschwanz and her Video production company) don't have enough to do with their main bands. All this basically started as a silly bet and now we get that :P

Wow this has tons of energy and the violin and harp were gorgeous. Thanks Elizabeth for such a generous analysis, your passion and nerdiness are so wonderful, who else would argue about the presence of an augmented fourth? I think the connection between metal and classical is definitely strong. You already know about Ne Obliviscaris for metal with violin, Fleshgod Apocalypse and Carach Angren are amazing for metal with full symphony orchestra, and Eard play atmospheric black metal and feature the Celtic Harp. All amazing artists worthy of checking out.

Elizabeth, you never cease to amaze me with your passion and enthusiasm reacting and trying out new stuff! When I first found your channel some time ago, well, let's just say I was... skeptical. I never would have believed such a HIGHLY educated and trained professional opera singer would become an actual metalhead. Yet here you are. Color me wrong! LOL On a personal note, I was raised listening to a fair amount of opera/operatic vocals; my mom was *addicted* to Mario Lanza. But it was never even close to a preferred style for me. Now? Though still not my primary go-to genre, my appreciation for it & what it takes has skyrocketed...thanks to you. I find myself willingly seeking out opera performances on YT when I hear of them (not just yours! 😉) There are a handful.of other opera singers that do reactions I'm subscribed to as well; and it's always fun cross-checking what they say with what you say. Ms. Zharoff. Came across your channel last week. Wowzers. I have come to enjoy many genre's of music over many decades. My sons also brought me along with Indy music. Now, I suspect this is probably inappropriate given the praise to the Hogwarts. I also suspect, with your thousands of comments this will probably not cross your path. But I digress...One of my all time favorite songs is the cover, "Ticket to Ride", by Karen Carpenter. Her voice is liquid gold and her rendition of this just makes me suck my breath in. If you have not heard it, just give it a listen. By the way, my major, long ago, was public speaking. You have an incredible presence and draw that is rare. I suspect your profession and travel has perfected that. Blessings on your talent!

So I've got an unusual recommendation for you: Casey Lee Williams. People will recognize her as the lead singer for every season of the animated series RWBY. She started doing the soundtracks 10 years ago when she was only 13 as her dad, Jeff Williams, is the composer and sometimes singer for all of the soundtracks. She had a surprisingly powerful voice for her age and now at (I believe) 23 she still sounds much the same but little more mature and experienced. She also has her own band, OK Goodnight. Due to her soundtrack work she's picked up a few different vocal styles from rock to jazz to pop to even opera. The song I would recommend most is Red Like Roses - Part II. It's a duet she sang with her mom, Sandy Casey (and composed by her dad) from the first soundtrack. It's fast paced, kinda frantic and I think you'd really be impressed. I know you're into gaming so maybe you're already familiar with her? If so she might make for a good interview as a lot of us have watched her grow up and mature as a performer.

@@emerje0: ✊😆 All "Hell Yes"!!! 😆 Her voice in the line starting with "Simple and clean..." is absolutely gorgeous as she soars into those high notes, and is very J-Pop cute, in my opinion, with a voice that one could seriously fall for 🥰, while "Sanctuary" seems to have a soothing quality to it before it picks up an anticipation and release (... "And you and I....") without loosing the calm somehow. Love it! 😳!!! I just had a thought! 🤔 I wonder if there is a live or studio performance of "1000 Words" from FFX. I know there's a YT video of the performance from in game though. Anyway, the song itself was moving I thought, but even more so while understanding the full context in game. Either way, beautifully done. ☺️

@1:15 "The Harry Potter theme was always meant to be metal." I learned that lesson from Eric Calderone (known on KZbin as ERock). He specializes in metal covers, and one of his most notable is Hedwig's Theme. In ERock's own words, "Those leads are not improvised, those are the actual violin runs in this tune. I know." The man played those intricate lead violin parts on his guitar. I imagine you probably won't want to feature this on your channel because there are no vocals in this piece, but perhaps for your own edification, you could give it a listen during your down time. v=KEPonYqgP18
