I've deep dropped for tilefish, black sea bass and rosies but never sword. I've seen guys with the electric reels but I always just worked my Penn to get them up. It's hard work but satisfying.

Joshua carrico triple or quadruple the depth you'd fish for rosies and tilefish and add 6 lbs to your lead

@@georgewilliams7078 recreational fishermen use electrics all the time when it comes to swordfishing. I personally like hooker electric because we can use the electric to check bait and hand crank when we get hooked.

You can give them a quick soak in menhaden oil, or fish un-sauced. Caught fish both ways. It does give a bit more confidence with a little scent on it.

I have deep dropped for rock fish here in California and we stay at about 300 feet and just a 10oz weight with a two speed tuna reel is a lot of work of just reeling it in

Actually in New Zealand and possibly Australia most people that deep drop reel in the fish by hand. Utah Fishing is right the electric reel is pointless and no fun as you don't even get to fight the fish
