Hoi4: The Strongest Bulgaria Explained: forming the Balkan Federation!

Bulgaria is complicated, but I'll break it down for you. In this video I'll create the Balkan Federation. This opening can be used for Balkan Problem Solved, which will feature in a future video.
This tutorial video will show the ins- and outs of Bulgaria and how to navigate the many challenges to form a superstate in 1939!

Anyone else confused as to why Bulgaria does this and not Yugoslavia, the nation that’s already a balkan union?

It was always a goal of the Bulgarian communists and almost came true after the WW2 when Georgi Dimitrov and Tito worked together towards the unification of Bulgaria and Yugoslavia but Stalin stopped us. It makes more sense if you get it via the communist branch.

The flag was designed by a Greek revolutionary during the Greek revolution in 1821. The dream of a democratic federation was supported by some Greeks but the communist one by Bulgarians so idk

Yeah I've been thinking about doing that for certain guides. For Bulgaria it would certainly help I guess, because the focus tree sequence really matters. But its even more work.... Probably will do one for an updated Bulgaria

Bonus tip for Balkan Problem Solved achievement, once unified, make a single infantry battallion template and deploy as many as you can, Italy will give you core states back since on paper you can deploy around 1300 divisions by the time you finish the focus. Easy achievement without a single soldier lost!

Great video, thank you! One question though - how did you have 12 army experience by november 36? Thought you mentioned something about getting it via infiltrating Greece's army but I didn't gain any army xp when I did that.

It's a shame about albania. If you could manage to shave 140 days off everyone flipping to democracy you could form the confederation before Italy does the focus to get Albania. You're timings looked pretty tight though, so probably not possible.

Sorry but it's truly impossible, I've done like 10 tryhard attempts at flipping everyone communist in time but it's too RNG depended and not even worth it. Just focus on getting Romania, Turkey and Greece so you can have a chance against Italy and Germany

You can get it super easily by maxing relations with Italy and doing the focus for it

Oh wow, haven't seen that one. Thats probably turkey's fault though. turkey can go for balkan factian themselves and they are known not to be limited by being in a faction, or even being a puppet

I've had a problem with bulgaria, i chosed the monarchist way, and wile i was doing it my manpower was constantly draining, i did not have a bad modifier and was not recruiting, my economic law was parcial movilization and my conscription law was limited conscription

I played a perfect ahistorical game, Germany went and Turkey went democratic. Yugoslavia went commie but I managed to to flip them and Romania. Then Romania joined the Czech Entente. "I can easilly conquer them" And then the US joined the Czech Entente.

Good guide! Just a tip, it's better to ban fascism the moment you get the fascist influence from Italy (that I believe the country still has it in the new BBA DLC). That way you remove the annoying spirit immediately

You can skip Turkey yes. You can then take the communist advisor after taking the focus to unite the balkans and justify. Do keep in mind that by that time the Turks will have a guarantee....

I like the vid but i disagree with the title. The strongest bulgaria would be the patriarch since it can basically get enough compliance so the state is literrally better than a core

Correct, I guess. I did mean to say it's the strongest opening, as you can do this strategy relatively early. The compliance gain is super when you (for instance) manage to take the USSR, or even just a neighbor like Romania or Turkey

Not sure why that happened, but it could have something to do with Turkey getting that other leader than usual. Only thing I can say at this point is to try again. Goodluck!

I just tried this and got turkey to 96% without them flipping. Took so long legionare Romania showed up

I've had the same issue, like 80+% Democracy in Turkey, no flip, i saved the game and reloaded it, after that not long after Turkey flipped. Maybe now its a bug and the play is when Turkey gets to 60% you reload game, and then they flip, idk. Just my experience.

Did you find out what is the problem? They don't flip until elections '43 i think, or it's some random chance to flip, but i am 90 democratic in Turkey and they stay non-aligned.

Only european turkey is part of balkan federation. Looks weird af as eastern european to see part of asian within the federation
