In this video I explore a couple of intresting alternative history scenarios about Bulgaria. What if Bulgaria united with the Byzantine empire or what if the Bulgars never migrated too the Balkans? What would Bulgaria's fate and borders be like? Watch the video and see

I think I'm going to do that Bulgarian-Roman union idea on ck2
@ivokantarski6220

Any time from 8th till 11th century such an alliance would doom most of the neighbours. In the video it's about alliance when Tsar Simeon is on the throne. The Bulgarian army turning north with 2 legions support will school anything on its path. The East Roman army with a 5k elite cavalry added by Bulgaria would do as it likes. These are little transfers of armies into the other allie and it goes great. Imagine East Rome going down with it's own army plus 10k Bulgarian cavalry and 10k infantry as addition. The Muslims wont win any major battles.

You know you should make a scenario where Samuel kills Basil the second in combat
@ivokantarski6220
@ivokantarski6220 2 жыл бұрын
I would just like a scenario where Tsar Samuel doesnt screw up both times near rivers. A fine clash and then the blockade in the mountains be more succesful will also be nice. Killing Basil II through be a very nice outcome. At the end of the day another dynastic crisis in East Rome would help the Bulgarian Tsar to consolidate, rebuild and expand into other territories. Non except the Magyars could offer a great resistance. I've read a novel on this Tsar and there it says he tried to make his son and the Magyar princes a couple and therefore make friends out of the Magyars now that will be a mad good alliance. East Roman army will become outnumbered. Bulgaria usually didnt win battle by outnumbering the Romans. I believe Tsar Samuel didnt have the proper Bulgarian cavalry which was crucial to defeating the larger Roman army with excellent infantry. So going in head to head ain't smart. But when u got more and better cavalry u can deny opponent battle and cut supply lines at will.

Respect from Romania! Edit: Dobrujan Despotate (karvuna) was a bulgaro-wallachian principality. The name of Karvuna is from the romanian caravuna which means caravan cause the wallachians were paid by Ragusa and other western states to protect the caravans with cargo to the black sea.

Nice, but I have to dissagree about the Ottomans, every scenario involving a alternate medieval Bulgaria you proposed would likely butterfly the Ottoman expansion into Europe out of history, relegating them to being a purely Asian power, if they would exist at all.
@ivokantarski6220
@ivokantarski6220 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. Tf is he thinking. What are the Turkik tribes gonna do when the legions turn up with a way better and more numerous cavalry than the usual? Outnumbered in man power and cavalry I dont think the Bayliks could be nearly as successful. Plus if not focusing on exhausting wars with East Rome some of whom continuing decades each then Bulgarian side can definately expand into Bosnia and further into current Romanian territory. In Italy I can see East Rome again being way more succesful than usual. Keeping in mind these two adversaries used to field massive armies to fight each other in that era. Europe barely had any to compare with those two. Tsar Simeon would crush the Magyars eventually so the new Bulgar Roman empire could make nice defence south side or Carpathian mountain if it likes and expand. Kievan Rus managed to suprise the state. In such scenario even with a suprise they be wiped out once the large legion and calvary armies come together. The fourth crusade will be a joke not happening in this cause. Now that alone wouldve made huge difference in terms of East Roman abilities at the time Ottomans try their luck.

Hey! I have a question. Do bulgarians consider themselves a mix of bulgars, slavs and native thracians that all resulted in the bulgarian nation we have today, or something different?
@zshivkonezshivkov380
@zshivkonezshivkov380 3 жыл бұрын
As far as I can see, the common idea is more or less some degree of people considering themselves linguistically slavic, racially mediterranean(thracian) and by origin and heirs to a central asian identity. Depending on the political situation this changes. During the Anti-Ottoman struggle the slavic language part was most important since it would mean bulgarians would get help from the russians and be a part of the slavic european societies. Post ww-1 the central asian heritage was most important since it would be an opposition to the pan-slavic Yugoslavian and Soviet imperialism and also since during ww2 slavic people where considered sub-human by Germany while asiatic peoples were tolerated. During Soviet times the slavic identity became most important again because of Soviet propaganda, then during the end of the regime the thracian heritage started becoming esoterically important since it was a way to stand against the pan-slavic propaganda. These days it is a bit mixed, depending on the person since people like being bulgarians but dislike what it is associated with. In instance bulgarians might be proud of their khans and central-asian heritage cultural traditions, words and names but don't like that being associated with Turkey(a central-asiatic country by origin) since there is a dislike of Turkey. Bulgarians like their slavic elements but dislike being associated with slavs because of Yugoslavia and the Soviet union. Because of that the thracian heritage is something many people tend to usually advertise Bulgaria with, but it is hard to identify with it since the thracian heritage is mostly genetic with no direct continuum with thracians having been assimilated by bulgarians.

Ok, this is pretty interesting. The bulgars were turkic people that migrated into the balkans and with the help of slavic settlers created a joined state to defend themselves against the bizantines. The 2 ethnic groups coexisted for some time, but after christianity spread across the state the bulgar identity larely faded away and the people assimilated with the slavs. The only thing that remaned was the name Bulgaria
