They don't seem to respawn TRULY infinitely. There seem to be spawn flags that disable once you cross another flag. The problem is said spawn flags are inconveniently placed such that you back track over them to keep the enemy in front of you, then trigger it again once you try to advance. I really noticed it in the Hallways of the Engineering room of the Maw. It's very distinctly specific lines you cross that trigger it and in the heat of a firefight it's easy to run back across it to get some distance... and then you trip the flag again once you go forward.

I remember on my Original Halo CE, I had played it on an old fashioned tube television. The TV setting made it so that the lighting contrast in the game forced you to use the flashlight in order to see. The first time I played this level was truly horrifying. Imagine your light about to die out while fighting the flood in one of these tight corridors and, within the next second, being left in the dark to fight them while you wait anxiously for your light to recharge. The amount of horror this level left me with the flood encounters was nearly one of a kind. The only game to match the atmosphere was Half Life 2's Ravenholm... ON THE SAME TV!

This level was so dark that I just screamed at the horror upon my first encounter with flood carrying Rocket Launchers. Didn't even see them coming that time. Fun fact: the pistol in CE technically uses high-explosive rounds and the shotgun uses 8 Gauge Shells. That is why these two weapons are affective against the flood and the high caliber anti-material rifle isn’t. Fun fact part two: On PC, use the catch skull, tough luck, the skull that disables auto aim, and Thunderstorm. This will give you more grenades and is good for score bonuses. I did this mission legendary with these skulls and got a great score, thank you for the guide.

I find the assault rifle and the shotgun to be the best two weapons for dealing with flood. The assault rifle is great at clearing the tiny spores and is a solid backup incase you run out of shells since it can hold a lot of ammo. The shotgun is better for the bigger flood and can kill them really quick.

Great guide Hokie! Not only was I able to beat this irritating/difficult level on Legendary but I also got the "That Just Happened" achievement for not dying, along with the "Reading Room" achievement for beating the par score. I don't think I've ever beaten this level without dying before, even on Normal. But my strategy sucked and I didn't know about the "long way around" at the end, that you could just run past those infinite spawn points, and I never carried the pistol with me. I always just carried the AR to wipe up popcorn flood and Shotgun for combat forms. I'll never do that again. And I agree about pistol over rocket launcher, there's a few spots it might come in handy but the pistol is always handy. Maybe if there was a lot of rocket ammo on this level I'd think about picking it up. But even if I were to turn on the Bandanna Skull I think I'd stick with the pistol.

I know this video is really old and you may not even check the comments on them anymore, but you made this mission much easier to beat. I was really dreading this one, but I just did everything you said to do in this video, and it really wasn’t too bad! Ah, the level where my second earliest memory was formed. Not my favourite level, but it made me love the Flood. 48:50 Thank you so much for covering this. This little nook doesn't seem to be very well known. I was quite disappointed at the remake for making such a huge error. If it was one of the many other nooks with nothing in them, I wouldn't complain. But that one had a crucial health pack right before a big fight. 38:52 Probably not known at the time, but if a Combat Form falls after two Pistol shots, they will revive. If it takes more shots, they will stay dead. I thought I explored this level pretty well, but I didn't know about the rocket launcher at the start of the third floor. I did an investigation as a kid to see where the Flood would spawn infinitely, and the fourth floor "torture room" was the only one I found. Of course, as a kid I probably crossed the invisible lines that stopped them from spawning without realising. But man, now I want to do another investigation into this. And damn, I didn't know holding the corner is such a powerful strategy. I would use it in the "torture rooms" without realising, but for every other encounter I would go right up in their faces instead (and end up dying a bunch naturally).

There aren't actually any infinite spawns in this level except for maybe the torture chambers on the third and fourth floors, but the spawns there are only infinite until the doors open so they're technically not infinite. Every other location, it's just that there are a lot of waves of flood. If you hang back and patiently kill everything, they will stop spawning eventually.

When I was younger I found this level to be difficult. But when I did my most recent legendary playthrough it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. Compared to elites, flood combat forms are way easier to take down. And now that I know that the torture chamber section is avoidable it becomes even easier. Probably the easiest mission aside from pillar of autumn and 343 guilty spark. It's just a long mission but the frequent checkpoints help quite a bit.

No, in the original that area is textured properly. The remastered graphics are SERIOUSLY messed up. A lot of them don't match the level geometry, which is especially obvious in T&R because you will keep sniping invisible walls if you used the remastered graphics. In Two Betrayals, if you fly close enough to the walls, you will also hit invisible walls. That area at the end of The Library is just the biggest screw up, where they completely missed it, and it had a crucial health pack right before a massive fight.

@@lunarstrom8160 You're 100% correct. A buddy of mine gave me his old 360 and I got myself a copy of the OG Xbox version of Combat Evolved. The original Xbox version has far superior graphics than what can be offered in the anniversary edition, despite its higher resolution textures. In addition to this, the classic graphics mode in the anniversary edition is fundamentally broken. There's a really great video done by Late Night Gaming covering the downgrades in graphics, so I won't get into detail. I just completed The Library on Legendary and it was VERY dark compared to what you see in this video. Not even the classic graphics in anniversary gets as dark as the original game was. It actually made things more interesting as you need to use the flashlight in order to progress through parts of the game.

Playing MCC: When i first walked into the ship’s bay on truth and reconciliation, i hit the checkpoint at 1 hp, no charge in plasma pistol, a needler with one mag left and no surviving marines. On heroic For the life of me couldnt pass it, i think i tried 35 times and died every single one. Only got to the hunters maybe 4 times and the one time i was super close to passing, with one hunter left, it boots me out of the bay door and i fall to my death. Absolutely frustrating. Then i finally decided to just redo the mission and bring the sniper along, and when i got to that part it was laughably easy, i passed it first try. I really really hated it and had to walk away a few times but I honestly think it made me a better player. 😅

@@oni_sectionone8646 The gravity lift fight is quite difficult, as you need to play aggressively and accurately with grenades and sniper to clear all 8 waves without getting overwhelmed. Then you have a 10 wave fight after the cutscene in the ship. Some of the other fights on board are tricky after that. Finally, you have to babysit stupid Keyes and his band of morons while they try to blow themselves up/get shot to bits.

The worst part about THAT is you have to be super methodical, and it becomes repetitive. But the worst part about the mission is Keyes always jumping infront of you ending up getting two shot by a needler grunt. That's the parts right before the end, anyway. You have to bait the grunts and dispatch them quickly.

I could classify three types of Combat Forms by threat level depending on the weapon they're using if you're playing on Legendary. Combat Form with Assault Rifle: Drain your shield faster. Combat Form with Shotgun: Deals incredible damage. Combat Form with Rocket Launcher: One-hit kill.

Got to be honest while the library is a drag it really was one of the easiest missions for me to do in legendary. They supply you plenty of shotgun and pistol ammo that can easily handle the flood so all you need to worry about is taking cover and not getting overwhelmed. Kind of crazy to think truth and reconciliation was ten times harder than this. Also the hardest part of the entire mission can be avoided by just standing still for a minute... Yeah....

I regularly play Halo CE and Halo 2 on MCC to try get good playlist scores, and playlist scores do not include your time multiplier like level scores. So you're free to take more time and kill everything. You still have to finish under a certain time, but for the library you have 60 minutes. I've completed this level a number of times on Legendary with no deaths and killing everything, takes me around 40 minutes. There isnt any infinite enemies, but you will have well over 1000 kills. Hokie misses alot of flood in this level.

It's all intentional you guys. Just think about the psychological effects they set up here. You made it out of the predicament in the last level after facing the flood for the very first time, likely being swarmed a couple of times and dying to shotty combat forms. Now in this level you are being completely drowned in carriers and armed combat forms but you struggle through that as well. As frustrating as it is you think you might be getting the hang of this slowly. Then you approach the next encounter. Seems easy enough - no ambush and they rush to you from a distance completely open. But then it turns out THEY HAVE FUCKING ROCKET LAUNCHERS. That was just so amazingly devastating the first time around 😁 This mission with its insane monotony and length as well as the darkness of the original version to me defined the nightmarish quality of the flood through all the games. There was always this insane tension with the flood and I think it's partly because you're not only worried about dying, you're especially worried about dying a thousand times in such messed up, unfair and tedious ways - and you are^^

The point where Guilty Spark leaves you because he has to go and unlock the security door pissed me off, because they just kept coming and coming and coming! I took almost 40 minutes to beat that section (not to mention I started shooting at him because I lost my shit with him), and the last one almost half an hour! Sorry, but no way can I do this on Legendary! I'd like to know how long it took you the first time you played this!! It boggles my mind!

This level is hellish with the skull on that doubles explosive radii. Playing split-screen my friends and I are just paranoid about the carrier forms lumbering around waiting to set off the whole room's full of grenades.

What pissed me off the most about this level is that the monitor actually has a laser he could have used to help you fight the flood along with the sentinels. Instead he left all the shooting for you while spouting some random bullshit everytime you made about 50yds of progress.

You know a lot of people hated the library. I loved it, especially on the original CE version, because it had way less ambient light and was far more atmospheric because of it. I love Halo Infinite, but nothing compares to the intensity of CE. Ripping the flood to shreds with the CE shotgun never gets old

actually, many of the areas that is pointed out to be infinite re-spawning flood, i always fight them out, again they aren't actually infinite but just a whole hell of a lot of them, one example is 29:00 where they are res-pawning a lot, but when i play i fight them out, they will stop eventually, just like the big blue square areas, they will be a lot and take a while but they do stop eventually.

Not really. He isn't organic, so they can't infect him. He also has an insanely powerful shield that is impervious to everything except for a Spartan Laser, so shooting him does no good either.

This is actually almost the easiest level in CE: Flood AI was not good; all you gotta do is not move too far forward too soon and spawn too many waves at once and get surrounded. They line up to get shotgunned!

this is definitely a bottle level copy and paste of the same area over and over, i just felt like saying that. about the whole leave the rocket launcher so you won't lose the pistol, I like to "walk the guns"where you pick up a gun while running and it goes flying out in front of you by holding x down. then you can basically take all the guns with you. it worked for me in the original but I've never played the anniversary so I don't know if it'll work on it, but it was a tactic I liked to use.

The reason I don't like this level isn't necessarily because I find it difficult, it is because it just isn't very fun. All the encounters are practically the same, the hallways are all identical, and fighting is the same for the entire level.

In the torture chamber, you can fire two rocket launchers at those two things as they're coming down. There's also a health pack, i just like fire rocket launchers, use you shotgun of course. Just keep moving and shooting is what i did. Grenades too yeah
