That's a Nanto execution technique, those are supposed to be going into the chest of the victim. If you've seen the anime, that's how Kenshiro gets the "7 scars" he's so famous for. If you don't have the patience to watch the whole series (not sure how many episdoes) you could watch the original movie, it's basically an UBER abridged version. It still makes for a good watch though.
