Too loud and distracting! I really wanted to understand and found it so challenging to hear the speaker above the music.

I want to understand the diference between Holacracy and Sociocracy 3.0. I recently (las weekend) studied Sociocracy 3.0 here in Porto Alegre (Brasil). Congrats for the presentation.

First came to widespread attention when Zappos asked it's employees either follow it or take a payment to resign (40% did so). Holocracy attempts to model itself after the way nature organizes systems, with elements functioning autonomously both on an individual and project/job/etc level. Roles are viewed as encapsulated within each-other, with individuals being able to function in multiple roles at once (i.e. the founder functioning in Finance, Marketing, Product Dev, etc.) It's also flat, in that no one, not even the founder, has the authority to tell someone not to do something. With the exception of limitations set in unanimously agreed upon corporate governance, employees are permissionlessly allowed to achieve their role in whatever way they perceive to be best. (personal note: not sure how this will hold up when it's subjected to the minds of certain well intentioned mavericks, speaking as someone who has been fired for being one) There are regular 'governance meetings' where people and departments are able to propose projects to each other's todo lists and otherwise coordinate.

My understanding is Holacracy is essentially maintaining a "start-up" organization even WHEN a company has surpassed the startup stage in the beginning.

My question is: how do you tranform a traditional organization into a flat organization given that all of managers spent years over years of enerigies to reach their position. For these managers the position in the hierarchy is the Real purpose.

Go TEAL. Listen the evolutionary purpose (instead of EGO)

This isn't necessarily true -- it's definitely the case that some managers have motivations of status, but others have motivations of enablement. The latter would fit well into an organisation that focuses on empowerment over hierarchy. I'd expect those in the former group were in the 14% that quit :)

So-called 'evolutionary' companies is silly idea. Companies are not biological entities. And 'blind variation and selective retention' (BVSR) does not a successful business strategy make. Because companies involve 'higher level' entities called 'human beings' (i.e. US), they change-over-time in a trans-evolutionary way, normally known as 'development'. Biological evolution doesn't determine business decisions; it is pseudo-scientific quackery to suggest otherwise.

Well, as far i understand, the topic here is not business decision making, but organization. "Like the cells in an organism, the basic building blocks of agile organizations are small fit-for-purpose performance cells..." In fact, "lower level" biological entities are better organized then us - the 'higher level' entities ; )

Why do you think that? I would think that you would be payed more if you excel at what you do by being enabled to participate in the decisions for continuously improving your workflows and your job.

Sounds like fewer low paying jobs, more well paying jobs, fewer highest paying jobs.
