The Commodore as a value equation is extremely difficult to beat, maybe impossible. I will forever be annoyed that the Commodore as we know is disappearing. It'll be very interesting to see what Holden consider to be a replacement for it as I think we'll be disappointed by it. Get them while you can I say...

I've had people try to sell me a stinger as a replacement, and while it's a fantastic car, it doesn't come close to putting a smile on my face like the redline. I just wish I'd been able to buy a manual wagon or had the money to buy a manual sedan as well.

I’m looking at buying an auto wagon right now. Is the transmission okay? I’ve recently sold my ve maloo manual needing seats for the kids though not sure if I want to go auto as I’m hoping to keep this car till I die

Now the Holden SS V8 Commodore will never again be built in Australia with the closing down of General Motors Holden Australia. I do wish The General Motors or Chevrolet in the United States of America, would once again consider how popular Holden V8 Commodore's were and still are to Australian's after losing their Holden Brand Aussie made super cars, and start again building these powerful V8 pleasure to drive powerful Beasts at such an affordable price of the 2017 $50,000 + ~ It's such a tragedy looking at these now extinct SS V8 Holden Commodores, that were once and still are, such a very popular and much sought after last of the Aussie V8's, which are all the more beautiful and as a very powerful driving experience from the first SS VH Holden Commodores in 1982, through the 1990's up to the last of the SS Holden/Chev Commodore in 2017 that will never be made again in Australia or by General Motors in the United States. But Ford have still got it together by mass producing and importing their very popular V8 Mustangs again into Australia. If only General Motors the makers of the famous Chevys could have saved the famous Holden icon Commodore SS and HSV V8's in Australia to be once again built again or at least built SS Commodores by General Motors /Chevrolet in the United States and badged as Holden Commodores. I'm sure there would be a waiting list to build, and import more new SS V8 Commodores again for the V8 loving Aussie and American Buyers. Ford with their powerful new popular V8 Mustangs have took over the void left by the no longer made General Motors Chevy Holden SS Commodores sadly. Although General Motors and Chevrolet will continue to build and import from the United States there legendary powerful super car V8 Chevy Corvettes and SS Camaro's. Wouldn't it be great if Holden SS V8 Commodores could also still be built for the Australian super car Holden enthusiasts as well as the Legendary Ford Mustang V8's which took the place of the Aussie V8 GT Ford Falcons once also built in Australia. Both Ford Mustangs and Holden Commodores are beautiful V8 Super Cars for those who can't afford a very expensive Chevrolet Corvette or SS Camaro.

I've recently bought a 2015 VF SV6 so my son can learn on manual. I asked him what car he wanted, he said Commodore, I paused and thought... why NOT a Commodore? And it's great. But I also have to recognise it sits in an awkward zone. It's not as crazy dumb as American Steel (TM), but it's far from as smart and refine as a European sports sedan. I love it. But I also understand why people didn't want it in 2015-2017. Some blame the SUV trend, but I want to blame "salary sacrificing" and the rort that industry is. A guy gets a big promotion in 2015, he wants a fancy car, and as soon as he visits one Audi or BMW or Merc showroom... Holden is stuffed. "Feeling special" in a Commodore isn't this SS-V. It's HSV. And HSV is about loud power and raw driving. And they were ironically TOO CHEAP. Mr Bigshot is here to salary sacrifice a six-figure car. The Aussie ideal of frugality, of knowing the value of a dollar? That's dead. This guy just got promoted to a $250K a year job and the govt wants to take 35% of that. He needs to bump up his salary sacrifice numbers. $80K? Those are rookie numbers. He needs a Merc C63. He needs a BMW M5 or even an M6. If he's not much of a driver he wants an E-Class. His wife wants an Audi Q7. The whole thing is a kind of tragedy. People could have spent tens of thousands of dollars less and gotten a car far better at going out the back of Bourke... but they wanted to be able to tell their friends and ESPECIALLY their dad's: "Well, I just got a new car and yes, it's an Audi/BMW/Merc!"

The Commodore simply wasn't selling, people now want SUVs and trucks, you have to love the big V8 but with the tough anti hoon laws and other road rules now in force in Australia even a very competent driver would have lost their license driving in the manner seen here. The roads are much safer so you can't argue with that.

I'm no longer sure it was the SUV thing, though that was a factor no doubt. I think it was because the whole Commodore range was priced against Audi, BMW, and even Mercedes- Benz. Somehow, in Australia, "getting ahead" meant owning a C-Class, not getting a new Commodore every 3-4 years like upper middle-class dads did in the 80s. And as current owner of a 2015 SV6 and former car reviewer... I cannot deny that the shift on a Holden gearbox, the level of noise in the cabin, the general "refinement" of the car isn't there. For me, as a driving enthusiast, that's awesome. I love how mechanical the car is. For shoppers in 2015 who were salary-sacrificing a "nice sedan", it was a matter of a couple hundred bucks a month to upgrade to a European car that made them feel like royalty... or at least made them feel rich. If you don't care about driving or bang for buck, what are you gonna get, this or Merc C-Class that feels like it was hewn from solid marble?

if only the government kept tariffs,they signed free trade agreements, no more aussie manufacturing, all gone names like sidchrome, victa mowers, pbr brakes, caterpillar aust, acl repco engine parts , dana, roh wheels, stanley tools aust, vulcan heaters, the list is never ending, free trade = cheap imports that's the reason all aussie factories have closed, we can't compete with cheap asian imports, our living standards cost of living is much higher, whats made here anymore NOTHING THATS WHAT

Ford Man Both the Falcon and Commodores are very good. But the Holden continued to work the car over while, sadly, the Falcon stayed pretty much a revised FG. Which is still a good car. My main complaint about the Falcon. The drivers seat is too high whereas as my former AU3 SR had a nice lower position which I really liked. But Id have either of both the Falcon or Commodore depending on variants.
